Wednesday Kpop Update | 2NE1 Final Farewell, “Goodbye” lyrics dedication from CL + Running Man Has Returned, Statement Released Discuss What Happened + YG Entertainment Zones In on Japanese Market, New Girl Group Debut? + New Music

There has been a lot going on in the world these past few weeks. With politics, show drama, producer statements, and artist/idol controversies and break-ups, it’s good to get back to the music!

Starting with 2NE1. I have to start with them. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t.

As we all know, 2NE1 has officially disbanded. Even after the revamp and the finished album that was never released, the world never got to meet the new 3-member group. With Bom currently inactive, CL and Dara still signed with YG and Minzy off to another agency working on new music, it made the fans question if we would ever get that official swan song. And it looks like we did but there’s a story behind this song that I thought was so poignant and moving. Apparently it was written by CL not only for the fans but also for Minzy, who is featured on the song.

“The song is something that I had written before. After Minzy left YG Entertainment, the three of us were preparing an album. It was a song that was supposed to be like a letter to Minzy. I edited the lyrics so it would be talking to both Minzy and the fans at the same time. It didn’t take me long to edit the lyrics because I move fast when someone is believing in me,” CL said in an emotional interview to IIgan, as quoted by AllKPop.

How sweet is that! The music video features just the three of them as they move through images of video of 2NE1’s history, including Bom. The final images show a photo of all four of them together and then finally the remaining three as they each go there separate ways.

The lyrics are incredibly moving and I’m so sorry to see them go. I want to believe this isn’t the end of 2NE1. I know how hard CL fought for this song to be released and how badly she wants 2NE1 to make a comeback so we’ll see. It’s been done before so certainly it can happen again!

For now, let’s all cheer them on as they all work on their own personal endeavors.

Running Man also is making a splash in the headlines. Apparently, it’s not ending this year. A statement released by the team stated:

“Running Man isn’t just a variety program. It boasts 100 million fans just overseas and I don’t think it’s fair not to reflect their opinions and decide the fate of the show just because of internal problems… I believe the correct path is to undergo change in order to become a better show and give more to the fans. That is why we are back.”

(source: koreaboo)

Interesting. But even though it’s not ending this year does that mean it’s a permanent thing? And will the old members return with new members?

“We’re keeping the possibility open but it’s hard to recruit someone right away. The original cast will continue to keep Running Man moving forward and we’ll keep looking for someone to fill Gary’s void. I think this is something we’ll have to keep working on to figure out…”

(source: koreaboo)

We’ll see who comes back officially and who we will be introduced to as new members. For now, it’s good to see that’s it returned.

It seems that YG is looking to expand. Apparently, they’re looking into the Japanese market to release new music and a potential new girl group.

Samsung Securities financial researcher Yang explained, “Though the company has not seen any concert cancellations or anything to that degree, we are continuously monitoring China’s limited regulations. YG will be focusing more on the Japanese market this season… YG Entertainment is said to be preparing for the debut of a new girl group following the success of Black Pink. With YG’s revenues from their acting division increased by 10% this past year, they recently recruited a new producer to be in charge of all the video content business industry. “

Well I guess this would be good news to fans in Japan of the large agency. This expansion could potentially be a really big deal so we’ll see what happens!

Wednesday Kpop Update | CL First, Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart + WINNER Comeback Postponed + The East Light, New Boy Band

This week in kpop has been a bittersweet week for YG. CL has officially made kpop history by becoming the first Korean female solo artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 list! This is a huge deal. This list not only shows number of record sales and proof of how much airplay you can potentially get on radio, but it’s also a popularity contest. Only the popular songs make it to this list and CL, you have officially done it!

The song “Lifted” debuted at #94 on the charts. And even though many people will have a lot to say about that, I will say this, there are millions of songs that won’t even get that high on the charts! Congrats CL! Check out her performance on the late night show, The Late Late Show with James Corden.

In not so great YG news, WINNER’s comeback has been officially postponed indefinitely. I was one of the ones speculating that the “Who’s Next?” teaser was a hint at their potential comeback but now, I’m not so sure. Apparently, Taehyun is not doing well at all and hasn’t been for quite some time.

“On October 12th, YG Entertainment confirmed the delay in WINNER’s anticipated return as they updated fans about Taehyun’s condition. According to the agency, they were aware of his mental health condition during his trainee days. However, the singer and actor was unable to cope these last few months.”

(source: koreaboo)

It seems the stress of touring domestically and internationally has begun to take a toll on Taehyun. So while he recovers, WINNER will be put to the side for now.

I truly hope he gets better soon!

And finally…  Have you heard of The East Light? Yes? No? Maybe? Well if you haven’t or you’re unsure, you most certainly will!

“The East Light’s agency Media Line announced, “The average age of The East Line is fifteen years old. They are a dance group with the talents to open a new paradigm in the idol market. Although their age may be young, their skills are not.”

I definitely can’t wait to hear their music. I have my theories of what they’ll sound like but I’ll wait until it’s official!

Wednesday Kpop Update | CL “Lifted” #17 Billboard‘s Social 50 Chart, Mixed Reviews + BLACKPINK Gets Reality Show + Tiffany Sitting Out SMTOWN’s 20th Anniversary Hawaii Vacation + New Music Videos

Alright so I normally would take this opportunity to post about other stories along with the headlines but this time, I’m going to plug twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for more kpop news and photos!

Haha, shameless plug.

CL just recently made her official solo American debut with the song “Lifted” and not only did it do extremely well on US Billboard Charts, but it has garnered a lot of buzz and views! “Lifted”#17 on Billboard‘s Social 50 Chart and I’ll tell you, that’s not an easy feat. It has to be pretty good to make it that high on the charts for a new-comer. Congrats CL!

But even with all the good surrounding it, a lot of fans are divided over it. While she’s gaining new fans in America, she’s also gaining haters in the kpop world?

The comments range from “boring” to “this is amazing” to “she’s selling herself”?

**Names have been removed and exchanged for numbers instead.

“#2 IDGAF WHAT YALL HATERS SAY YALL NEED TO GO GET LIFTED LIVE A LITTLE THIS IS DOPE AF”

“#18 it gets more catchy the more you listen to it”

“#4: “This is so crap. The reason why 2ne1 became popular because they were different. CL is just following American mainstream garbage. She should’ve have done something different, like bring 2ne1’s style in to America. She is going to make it nowhere with a song like this. Her solo Korean songs are much better than this. Everything seems too forced and she is trying to hard to fit in. Don’t even start your music stuff on me because I do audio engineering.”

So as you can see, the comments are pretty divided. It kind of shocked me a bit. Whereas I knew there would be a bit of pushback, I didn’t expect to run across as many negative comments as I did.

If you haven’t heard it yet, check it out below!

BLACKPINK, another member of the YG family, is about to jump into a new arena themselves. They will be getting a reality show! That’s right folks, they are joining the ranks of other kpop idols who have their own shows so fans can get to know them better on a more personal level.

“According to their company’s statements on August 24, the group’s new reality show “BLACKPINK TV” will premiere on August 25 through Naver… Through “BLACKPINK TV,” fans will be able to get a sneak peek of the members’ daily lives and get to know the members in a more intimate fashion.”

(source: soompi)

I think this is a great idea! It’ll be a good chance for the fans to get to know the ladies better.

Show airs August 24th-25th.

And this brings us to Tiffany.

I know by now the news has spread and everyone knows what happened. Well, apparently, she’s now sitting out longer. Instead of making an appearance during SMTOWN’s 20th Anniversary Hawaii Vacation, she will be sitting out due to “self-reflection”.

If you don’t know what this day is for, it’s for SM Entertainment’s 350 artists and staff member to go on what is being called a “unity” trip for four days. This vacation is also going to be for celebrating the 20th anniversary of SM.

So why wouldn’t Tiffany be there?

“The spokesperson stated, “In order to continue with her deep self-reflection regarding the recent Korean National Independence Day SNS incident, it has been decided that Tiffany will not be participating in the SM Entertainment 20th anniversary Hawaii unity trip.”

(source: koreaboo)

I guess the hurt feelings ran deep and close to home. I do hope this goes away soon for Tiffany.

Monday Update | YG Ent. New Girl Group, Two Confirmed +”Produce 101″ Trainees Dropping Lawsuit + Jun Ji Hyun And Lee Min Ho Confirmed New SBS Drama

Ok so today has been really really busy!! If you don’t believe me, head over to twentythirdstation.tumblr.com to see more links of kpop/k-drama news. I couldn’t post it all here but I’ll talk about as much as I can.

RAIN’S “La Song” has made it back on the Chinese charts after two long years since its release. G-Friend’s Sin B has somehow managed to get into a world of trouble of an old photo that has begun circulating of her. Apparently, she’s flipping off the camera. Netz are saying that this is her alleged, “true nature”. (And I’m rolling my eyes.)

BIGBANG fans are calling for a boycott! They believe that, due to mismanagement of their recent activities, if they boycott their 2016 Soul Concert Live DVD it’ll send a message to their agency and hopefully changes will come with management and treatment. There list of grievances include, a busy schedule, lack of concern for the members health and a “lack of consideration over their image online or safety“.

I’m not sure how this will all turn out considering YG just announced that not only is there a potential comeback in the works, they’re also working on a new girl group!

“According to reports, the girl group will be produced by Teddy, and start revealing one member per week starting this week…. Yang Hyun Suk said they’ve practiced for a long time, so their skills are guaranteed. I trained them like they were my elite troops. They won’t really feel like the second 2NE1 because they have a different aura. I am a little nervous because they’re the first girl group in 7 years, but I’m also confident.”

(source: koreaboo)

So far, there are already two confirmed members to this new group, Kim Jisoo And Jennie Kim. The names may sound familiar as this has not only been circulating for a while that they may or may not be involved with this project and after a failed debut, it wasn’t looking possible, but now it looks the ladies will get their day in the sun/time to shine!

Produce 101 Trainees Lee Hae In and Lee Su Hyun made major headlines when they announced they would be filing a lawsuit against their agency SS Entertainment to terminate their exclusive contracts. They felt that the contracts were too extensive and they didn’t receive everything they were promised.

Well now, that lawsuit has been dropped.

“…[Lee Hae In and Lee Su Hyun]  have dropped their lawsuit against their agency regarding their contract after having reached a mutual agreement… The two girls’ representative and lawyer revealed on May 25th that the agency has agreed to terminate the girls’ contract without any additional conditions during a meeting just the day prior.

(source: koreaboo)

The statement released after this news broke by their representative went on to say that the two were apologetic to fans for “worrying them”.

Crisis averted?

And then there was k-drama news!!

It seems as though the kpop world has enough drama in it to keep your attention diverted from scripted dramas. (Because sometimes, life is far more entertaining than fiction)

Enter: Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho

The two have been officially confirmed for a new SBS drama that will be written by the same writers from the ever popular drama, “My Love From The Stars”. The drama was so popular that it has received international praise with an American adaptation in the works. With that type of credibility following these writers and with the caliber of acting ability that Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho both possess, this drama may very will be another smash hit for everyone involved.

“The drama, with the working title “Legend of the Blue Sea,” will star Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun, airing on SBS, Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting in November. It is slated to premiere after the end of “Incarnation of Envy.” The drama is a fantasy romance, taking its motif from the mermaid/merman story in Korea’s first historical (romance) storybook. In the Joseon-era storybook, it is recorded that real-life figure Kim Dam Nyeong returned mermaids/mermen that were caught fisherman back to the sea.”

(source: soompi)

And now that the rumors have been cleared and the two have been named official leads, it looks like it’s already picking up steam internationally. Chinese broadcasting companies are already looking to find someway to air the drama as well.

I’m so ready for this one!
