Kpop Update | “Running Man” Controversy Continues + Got7’s Jackson Begging Sasaengs “Leave Me Alone” Gone Viral + WINNER’s First Broadcast as Four Members + New Music

Alright, so I didn’t really want to title this “Weekend Update” because this was supposed to be on Wednesday. However, regardless of the day we’re going to get into all of this!

Starting with Running Man.

Everytime I hear something new about the cast of Running Man, I usually overlook it because it’s typically a lot of speculation. But with Gary shutting down his social media account after news broke following an announcement that Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook would be leaving the show, there might be some truth to what’s being said.

So what happened???

News broke that both Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook  would be leaving the show. The problem was, neither of them at the time were made aware of this. The show had announced it was going through changes, which is something each parties agencies acknowledged, however what they didn’t know was that this would include cast changes.

Song Ji Hyo’s Agency Statement:

“We knew Running Man would go through changes from SBS but it is true that we only found out from news reports which members would not be invited back. We do not want to comment on Song Ji Hyo’s feelings but it is not our official stance that it was not a good farewell. There is a definite road she needed to walk as an actress and considered leaving the show so it [seemed] natural to leave the show during the season-change. However, it is true there was a lack of active communication from the production crew in the steps leading up to Song Ji Hyo leaving the show. There is a lot of regret emotionally but as it is the production’s decision, we will humbly accept it.”

Kim Jong Kook’s Agency Statement:

“It is true that we were told about Kim Jong Kook leaving the show one-sidedly. It is regrettable. Even though Kim Jongkook was not in the best health condition, it was a program he really cared for and took part in.”

When did the two find out? The night of the report!

Now there’s speculation that Gary is responding to the news by cutting off his social media contact with all involved over slighting his friends. Of course this is purely speculation and nothing has been said to the affirmative, but it is interesting timing.

Gary has also unfollowed everyone on his Instagram account, previously following a total of 145 people. He also had 88 photos uploaded to his account prior to the purge. His last few posts were videos that were uploaded about 5 days ago.

Guess we’ll be following this story to see what happens…

Got7’s Jackson is also in the midst of a controversy that is taking the Got7 fandom by storm!

It is truly one thing to be surrounded with support and love by fans but it is another thing when that love and support becomes so overwhelming, it’s almost smothering. Jackson experienced this “smothering” love while in a Chinese airport recently. There’s a video from that experience that has fans all over outraged of Jackson begging on his knees for the sasaengs to leave him alone.

There’s another video of him asking fans to basically give him space, expressing how tired he is and asking them if he needs to get on his knees and beg. It was until after he literally gets on his knees begging and pleading that concerned fans begin to also plead with the others to leave him alone.

This comes on the heels of an incident, not too long ago, where fans actually forced him to crash his car when they were tailing him.

Seriously, this has gone too far.

In lighter news, WINNER has finally surfaced after being hidden away for a long time preparing for their comeback. But the moment is truly bittersweet seeing them now as a four member group instead of five. Earlier, it was reported that Taehyun would have to leave due to a medical condition making them a four member group officially.

On December 15th, WINNER greeted their fans through a live streaming broadcast. It was their first public activity with four members left in the lineup… The broadcast was done in conjunction with the statement by YG Entertainment that confirmed their comeback plans. The agency stated that WINNER and iKON are both preparing their albums, aimed to be released early next year.

It’s good to see that they will be making a return! And I’m sure we all wish Taehyun the very best and to get well soon.

Wednesday Kpop Update | CL First, Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart + WINNER Comeback Postponed + The East Light, New Boy Band

This week in kpop has been a bittersweet week for YG. CL has officially made kpop history by becoming the first Korean female solo artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 list! This is a huge deal. This list not only shows number of record sales and proof of how much airplay you can potentially get on radio, but it’s also a popularity contest. Only the popular songs make it to this list and CL, you have officially done it!

The song “Lifted” debuted at #94 on the charts. And even though many people will have a lot to say about that, I will say this, there are millions of songs that won’t even get that high on the charts! Congrats CL! Check out her performance on the late night show, The Late Late Show with James Corden.

In not so great YG news, WINNER’s comeback has been officially postponed indefinitely. I was one of the ones speculating that the “Who’s Next?” teaser was a hint at their potential comeback but now, I’m not so sure. Apparently, Taehyun is not doing well at all and hasn’t been for quite some time.

“On October 12th, YG Entertainment confirmed the delay in WINNER’s anticipated return as they updated fans about Taehyun’s condition. According to the agency, they were aware of his mental health condition during his trainee days. However, the singer and actor was unable to cope these last few months.”

It seems the stress of touring domestically and internationally has begun to take a toll on Taehyun. So while he recovers, WINNER will be put to the side for now.

I truly hope he gets better soon!

And finally…  Have you heard of The East Light? Yes? No? Maybe? Well if you haven’t or you’re unsure, you most certainly will!

“The East Light’s agency Media Line announced, “The average age of The East Line is fifteen years old. They are a dance group with the talents to open a new paradigm in the idol market. Although their age may be young, their skills are not.”

I definitely can’t wait to hear their music. I have my theories of what they’ll sound like but I’ll wait until it’s official!

Weekend Update | GOT7 Releases Official Light Stick + Taeyong Controversy on Radio Show + Mino Talks Horrible Trainee Years

So this weekend was pretty busy with the new music releases, magazine photoshoots and let’s not forget new teaser visuals to get fans ready for the new music.

GOT7 takes the cake this weekend! They debuted their official light sticks and I have to say, it is truly the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time! It’s a shade of green with a bird’s nest.

Check it out in the video below!

NCT’s Taeyong is not really off to an endearing start with the fans. A while back, he got a lot of attention when fans zeroed in on his not so squeaky clean past. And of course, he was given an opportunity to address this and he did so in the interview below.

But now he’s in trouble again for his actions at a radio show. Apparently, he discarded his script and netz felt it was disrespectful and rude.

Honestly, I think they’re reaching here but I do hope he redeems himself in their eyes. I’d hate to see this group (and him) suffer over things that can be dealt with easily.

And finally, Mino came out recently talking about his life as a trainee. It wasn’t exactly glamorous. He said in an interview that he “lived in the basement with roaches” and how to eat tofu.

When asked how long he’d been a trainee, he responded, “Starting from when I was 17. I went into a trash label. I lived in a basement with cockroaches and only had tofu for meals.”

At least now he can honestly say that he won’t have to go back or endure that again if he keeps working hard.

Monday Kpop Update | BTS’ JK Cover of Justin Bieber’s “Nothing Like Us” + Ladies Code Official Comeback + Seolhyun CF “Body Double” Speaks Out + AOA is Getting Paid!

Ok so a lot happened today.

For starters, MBLAQ’s G.O is officially enlisting in the military. It was announced today that on Feb. 18th, G.O will leave quietly to fulfill his military requirement.

WINNER recently was on the SBS radio show, “Park So Hyun’s Love Game”. They talked about relationships and how they feel about their music… and then they said something that sparked my interest. They want to be on Running Man! They said that since they’re all equally athletic and love sport activities, they think they’ll be great for the show. Hopefully Running Man producers think so too!

SHINee’s Taemin released two teaser photos on twitter to get everyone ready and excited for his upcoming solo album. It’s going to be a huge event and he already has a full schedule ready to go!

The official release date is February 23rd!

I don’t know if you follow BTS on soundcloud, you probably do if you’re a huge fan, but for those of you who haven’t been following them, they do a lot of covers on their account. I usually like their versions more than the original song which is why I try to listen to the original first or else I won’t like the original at all. Which brings me to this, JK of BTS released a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Nothing Like Us” and honestly I just want him to release the song as an official cover. It’s just that good!

It’s currently still on repeat…

Ladies’ Code shocked me today with this announcement

That’s right! The trio has returned with a comeback entitled “Myst3ry”. (Get it? Cuz it’s 3 so “Myst-3-ry”)  It’s amazing to see how far they’ve come and I’m so excited for their new music. I imagine they’ve changed their sound a bit as well.

I can’t wait to hear this “Myst3ry”.

Seolhyun got a bit of backlash after a post was released from Seolhyun’s body double with pictures from a CF saying that it wasn’t Seolhyun’s body, it was hers! That’s not uncommon when stunts are done involving celebrities however, the woman said she’s saddened by the whole thing. Saying simply, they used her body in the commercial filming in Thailand.

Well, after the post circulated all over, FNC responded.

Most of the filming included the face and not the entire body so [Seolhyun] filmed the scenes herself. The body double was only limited to the action scenes. When you look at the CF, there was around one second of an underwater scene which needed wires. That’s about all that the body double did.”

(source: allkpop)

I’m not 100% sure what she expects to come of this but this is standard practice when using a double. Typically, they edit it so that nobody ever knows the celebrity wasn’t the one who did the stunts. It’s supposed to look seamless. I guess she wanted some acknowledgement for her part? I’m a bit confused by this situation.

And finally, AOA has done what very very few girl groups manage to do. They have officially broken even with FNC Entertainment which means, the ladies of AOA shall be getting paid! (insert applause!)

An FNC representative explained, “It is true that AOA members recently have started to receive an income due to their successful promotions last year. We cannot say how much that income was, however. From now on, the members will continue to get paid for their activities.”

(source: soompi)

This is a huge deal! Especially since it’s only been 3 years since their debut! For those of you who don’t understand this process, I’ll explain.

When groups are put together and go through training leading to their debut, (including promotions, fan signings, bookings, appearances, studio time, etc.), their agency will invest all the money. All they pretty much have to do is show up and perform well. However, they don’t exactly get a paycheck. They get a stipend in most cases. Once they begin making money from their debut and subsequent comeback releases, the revenue pays back the agency. Once they have officially paid back their agency, they can then start getting paid.

That’s pretty much the music business universally. It’s also one of the ways a lot of popular artists go bankrupt. But that’s another post for a completely different day.

Congrats AOA! Enjoy your paychecks!
