Wednesday Kpop Update | EXO First Sub-Unit + YG Teasing for October Release, “Who’s Next? + Sehun Ruffles Feathers with SNS Update

Alright so the world of kpop is getting increasingly busy as the holiday season rolls around. New comeback announcement and of course a lot of surprises! Beginning with EXO!

For the first time, EXO is getting ready to debut their very own sub-unit! That’s right ladies and gents! This is happening! And who will be the members? None other than the trio, Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. This is not coming as a huge surprise to fans. They were given a sample of what this sub-unit would look like during the EXO concert with the mini-series videos, “Reservoir Idols”.

This is definitely going to be exciting!

YG knows how to get the conversation going with many people speculating who this could potentially be already! We only have two more days to find out! I have a few theories of my own that I’ll keep to myself. For now, we know for a fact it’s not BIGBANG! BIGBANG’s comeback is scheduled for December so who else could it be?

And finally, with all the good news surrounding EXO right now, of course one thing had to upset people. It’s safe to say that it wasn’t meant with bad intentions but fans are up in arms anyway.

EXO’s Sehun posted a picture to instagram and commented, “Nice weather” with a sun emoji. It wasn’t long before fans saw this and immediately flagged him for being insensitive to the typhoon currently affecting Busan, Ulsan, and Jeju Islands.

He later deleted the post and said:

“The weather over here was nice, so I just posted it. I knew what was happening after I saw the news. I guess the southland is still getting hit with a serious typhoon. I hope there won’t be a lot of damages.”

Let’s try to be more understanding of each other! It’s been so peaceful lately!

Kpop Music Update | Taeyeon Comeback, Films Solo Videos in the US + Lee Hi’s Impromptu Acapella Performance, Audience Sings Along + YG’s “Who’s Next?” + Videos

Alright so with all the buzz from Monday’s news, I wasn’t sure if the kpop world could shock me at all again this week. But with Sulli randomly reappearing on Instagram, I.O.I’s fans being perverted by following them into the bathroom and taking pictures, the “banana diet(you don’t want to know but go ahead and click the link anyway) and Rap Monster revealing his singing voice… the kpop world surely didn’t disappoint.

Taeyeon has been very quiet since the release of her first solo album and now we all know why. She’s been secretly preparing for a new comeback… in the US???

In response to initial reports, SM Entertainment confirms that Taeyeon recently filmed her comeback music video in the U.S. It added that it will reveal the specific schedule for her comeback once everything is confirmed.

(source: soompi)

That was huge news that I’m sure a lot of us weren’t prepared for! No word on the official comeback date. However, she is going to performing live in Seoul for her solo concert “Butterfly Kiss”. Once that’s over, I think we might be getting more news.

How many times have you ever seen a live performance and out of nowhere the music stops? Or there’s some type of audio malfunction? And then when the malfunction happens, the artist just stops out of nowhere?

Well, that type of performer is not Lee Hi nor her fans!

During her performance of her debut song, “1, 2, 3, 4” the background music just cut off. What her fans decided to do was fill in the rest so she could continue her performance!

Now THAT was amazing! And right on cue, the music comes back on and of course goes out again because of technical difficulties but who needs music with a crowd like that???

The show must go on!

And finally, YG almost broke the internet again with a “Who’s Next?” teaser. The picture shows a typewriter with the words “Who’s Next?” and “Very Soon”. My personal guess is 2NE1 but I’m usually wrong when it comes to YG’s teasers.

What should have been super exciting though is kinda irritating the folks over on naver. Apparently, they’re really sick of these “Who’s Next?” teasers.

2. [+643, -36] Am I the only one who hates these who’s next posters, I really wish they’d stop it

3. [+496, -24] What’s it matter if YG has a ton of artists when they all get 2 year hiatuses and barely have any comebacks

4. [+465, -29] Not even curious over these teasers anymore ㅋㅋㅋ

Those are just a few of the translated posts but you can see more at the link. I guess YG might want to make that grand reveal soon.

Monday Kpop Update | Somin Leaving Kpop Girl Group April + Who’s Next? YG November Teaser + VIXX “Chained Up”

Today seemed like the day of controversy and just walking away for some reason. Netizens were a bit outraged with T.O.P and his “rude” behavior by keeping his hands in his pockets and being on his phone blatantly during interviews. I have to say though, I think that has more to do with nerves than anything. Have you ever seen T.O.P perform solo? He doesn’t really move around much and he looks really nervous. I don’t think it’s intentional rudeness. Yoo Jae Suk is currently working to appeal a recent court decision involving an unpaid wages court case. Korean-American Actress Amy is facing deportation due to her alleged prescription drug abuse.

And then there was the walking away aspect of today, Girls’ Generations’ Sunny announced that she will be leaving “Sunny’s FM Date”. It’s actually kinda bittersweet. Even though she loves the show and has been doing it for over a year now, SNSD has a pretty busy schedule and it’s conflicting with the radio show. I guess one must suffer for the other to succeed. November 15th will be her last broadcast.

But speaking of walking away, April’s Somin is leaving.

A statement was released by DSP Media explaining the decision and Somin also recently released a letter informing fans of her decision. DSP said that she’s been “considering her future” and that they will continue to “support her as a label mate”.

Somin decided that a statement wasn’t enough and decided to be a bit more personal explaining her decision. Here’s an excerpt but you can view the rest of the statement here at allkpop.com.

“Hello everyone. It’s Somin. The reason I’m holding a pen now is because as of today, November 9, 2015, I will be ending my activities with April, and I wanted to personally say goodbye to everyone… I’ve thought about it so much and after carefully worrying about it, I, Somin, as one person, will find out what I’m best at, and have decided to study… Like now, please always love and encourage. I too will encourage April and the fans, in the future wherever I am.”

(source: allkpop)

I think it’s a big step in her life to walk away from this to consider her future and pursue more personal goals. She’s at a turning point in her life right now, she’s not yet 21 but she’s old enough now where it’s time to make a decision. I think it’s huge for her to do this and I’m proud of how mature she’s being.

I wish her all the best in her self-discovery. Who knows? Maybe she’ll discover that singing is her passion and come back as a strong solo artist.

And here we are again in November and we’re dealing with a new teaser from YG. This teaser isn’t exactly new. It was released last month around the time fans were questioning whether or not YG had completely forgotten about WINNER. And now it’s resurfacing as it’s getting closer to the official release date for the new comeback.

But who is it?

I’m hoping for it to be WINNER. And I say this because they’ve been quiet for a long time now. Even though I would love love love see 2NE1, CL is working on an American debut. So it’s not exactly going to be the easiest schedule for her.

But it does say 11.21 at 21:00. Clearly that has to be a sign right? We shall see in a few weeks.

Now the moment you’ve all be waiting for, it’s haven’t already seen VIXX’s new music video for “Chained Up”, check it out below!

Tuesday Kpop Update | RANIA Introduces New Member + IU Plagiarism (Agency Responds) + VIXX “Chained Up” Teaser and B.A.P Releases Individual Teasers for Comeback

A lot happened today. For those wondering, Yewon will not be participating on SNL Korea with Lee Tae Im. Raise your hands if you’re surprised? (Crickets.) Word got around that the two were going to appear on SNL and it was looking like a chance at public reconciliation for the viewers at home, but Yewon’s agency at the last second decided, maybe not a good idea. They released a statement saying that “after careful consideration, [Yewon] will not be appearing” on the show.  Honestly, I’m not surprised. I’m actually more surprised that this was even considered as an option. That just screams, uncomfortable!

Congratulations ONCE! For those of you who haven’t heard and just so happened to be a fan of TWICE, you now have a fanclub name, “ONCE”!

Super cute right? They explained through their instagram account that, ONCE and TWICE just go together! So if you love them ONCE then they’ll return the love to you TWICE! So cute! And of course YG had to join in the fray and release another “WHO’s NEXT” teaser. I’ll put it to you like this, if it’s not WINNER, there’s going to be a lot of upset fans. The mysterious release is on November 21st so get ready!

And since we’re talking about new releases, teasers and promos with introductions. RANIA has announced a new official member and I have to say I’m super excited about this one! The new member is Alexandra and she’s Black-American! Woot!!!

Alexandra, age 21, is a rapper hailing from the U.S. Her father is black and her mother is white. She was born in Kansas and has lived in New York and Texas. She was part of the American record label Def Jam (housing Kanye West, Ludacris, and Justin Beiber, among others currently) starting from when she was 15 years old. Alexandra was preparing to debut with the help of her manager Scott (who formerly managed Rihanna and currently manages Bruno Mars, according to DR Music), when she came to know RANIA and signed on to become an official member.

Did I mention she raps? I’m totally a new fan of RANIA. Seriously I am. It’s amazing to see this happen. I never thought I’d see this day. I’m just… I’ma fan!

But unfortunately, the same good energy can’t be said for IU and it looks like a lot of “fans” have begun that “awesome” investigative work on one of her latest songs. The song in question is a bonus track on her mini-album “CHAT-SHIRE”. Apparently, the song has portions of it that sound exactly like “Gimme More” by Britney Spears.

Word got back to LOEN Entertainment and they released this statement on IU’s official Facebook account. I’l post an excerpt but click the link to koreaboo to see the full translation.

“Hello, this is IU’s agency LOEN. We would like to make an official response to the issue at hand with regards to the bonus track ‘Twenty-Three’ in IU’s mini-album [CHAT-SHIRE]. Last weekend after inquiring the producers about the issue at hand, we found that the producer used a voice sample that was in his possession through a previous purchase during the mixing stage… it is unclear how the producer came to be in possession of the sample, and are currently checking how this voice sample came about after contacting Britney Spears’s agency. We will attempt to clear this issue as soon as possible…”

(source: koreaboo)

Fans have already taken to social media to express their displeasure at the entire situation, claiming that this isn’t the first time IU has been caught in a plagiarism scandal. Many wondering if she’s even a real kpop idol. (Ouch!) I will say in her defense, it’s not like she wrote and produced the song by herself. And honestly, “Gimme More” is such an old song, I doubt many people outside of the U.S. would remember it. Unless you’re a fan of Britney Spears in which case, my apologies.

Hopefully this will be settled soon and we can all move on.

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for! VIXX comeback teaser!

B.A.P also has been releasing individual teasers leading up to that official release date! I’ll post them in the order they were released.
