Taeyeon | Upcoming Album Spotlight

So I said I wasn’t going to do Kpop Updates on here anymore because it just isn’t my passion to be a kpop blogger (but all the kpop updates will still be done regularly on twentythirdstation.tumblr.com if you’re looking for it!) However, I do still love talking about the music.

I was definitely going to reserve this for later but when I stumbled on YouTube earlier I saw all this promo for Taeyeon’s upcoming album. SM is really really pushing this with all the visuals and teasers. And after listening to it, I can see why. I truly enjoyed her solo debut and this album seems like it’s going to be the perfect follow-up. I won’t post all the teasers because there’s at least 12 of them, but check out the ones below!

Will you be listening?

Wednesday Kpop Update | VIXX’s Ravi “R.EAL1ZE” Project + Park Bom Likes “XXI” Photo + MAMA 2016 Taeyeon vs Wiz Khalifa, What Happened?

So this was probably the most exciting thing I have seen in a while. This is Ravi’s  “R.EAL1ZE” Project.

. RAVI R.EAL1ZE PROJECT #real1ze_project #Ravi

A post shared by RAVI (@rravii0215) on

I have no clue what this is about. For now, it’s a mysterious project. However, if it’s anything like his last solo projects, this is sure to be epic!

Can’t wait to see more! For now, this is all we know.

Get ready for January 2017!!

Rumors have been flying that 2NE1 maybe not officially over but only disbanded and rebranded to start over fresh. The new name? XXI. Now this is ALL speculation and rumors. Nobody knows for sure what XXI is or who will be apart of it but the fact Park Bom liked a speculation photo of it is fueling the rumors.

Keep in mind, Bom has not officially re-signed with YG and CL and Dara have re-signed as solo artists. If there is some type of way that this could happen in the future, I do believe it’ll come as a huge surprise to the fans because YG loves to do huge events. I don’t think they’d spoil it like this.

But it is nice to dream… so I won’t kill the dream. Keep Hope Alive!

I was beyond confused about this story when I first heard it! But then I ran across this interview from koreaboo and I’m here to share what I know and what I learned. I’m going to kinda break this up a bit and I won’t go over everything because a lot of it is back and forth. We’ll stick to the facts and see if we can solve this puzzle together.

Full article here: [★EXCLUSIVE] Here’s what really happened between Taeyeon and Wiz Khalifa at MAMA 2016

So this may be the big elephant in the room… why is Taeyeon beefing with Wiz Khalifa?? Are they really beefing? What happened??

Here are the facts:

  1. Wiz Khalifa collaborated with Taeyeon on the song “See You Again” which was originally sung with Charlie Puth.
  2. Wiz and Taeyeon flew in for MAMA 2016 for a special stage, presenting the collab for the first time to the world.
  3. The stage never happened.

Okay, here is the real problem… what happened to cause this stage to never happen?

I’m going to take this in pieces because this is a long ride so hang on tight.

Wiz’s side:

So we got that part of it.

And then of course came the infamous part where they were told there may have been a translation issue because they were told that not only had she requested a separate stage but that she was going to the hospital. It now being taken to mean that it was meant she was going to the hotel. Regardless of all of this, they figured if she was going to perform that night anyway, at least allow her to perform with Wiz. They were told no.

Taeyeon’s side: [Released Statement]

“I see a lot of people being very curious about the performance yesterday so I’ll explain (I would be curious too). I was getting ready for the rehearsal and saying hi to Wiz Khalifa. I was excited for the performance and getting ready. Then I heard that there was a problem with the music. Due to this reason I was unable to even go through mic checks with him properly and unable to join him on stage.

For a live performance, you need an MR version of the song but they only had the AR ready. I was a bit taken aback since I was supposed to do a live performance, but I wanted to be on stage with him because the important thing was that we had a chance to collaborate…and honestly a chance like this doesn’t come often ^^. So I thought maybe if I sang louder than the AR vocal than I would be able to mask it ㅋㅋㅋ. The producers wanted to do their best and make the best performance possible. So we decided to go ahead with the AR. But then a few hours before the show I heard the news that my part had been cancelled. I guess performing overseas makes a lot of things unpredictable. Even during rehearsals the day before I heard that there was something wrong with the sound system, so I ended up returning to the hotel after waiting without even rehearsing.

I guess a lot of problems coincided. I was so saddened and disappointed that I had to return without being able to perform such a stage. I hope no misunderstandings happen because of this issue. I know there were people excited to see the performance after hearing about it. I promise you that I will return with a better stage next time. I am so grateful for everyone that supported me until the end yesterday.”

The point is, when you’re handling a performance like this with artists who are pretty much performing not only together for the first time but also in a high profile light, there needs to be much much more communication.

There was not enough proper communication between the labels and agencies. There was not enough communication between staff. And there was not enough communication at MAMA. Will they try this again? Honestly I don’t know.

However, it’s important to note that there is no bad blood between the artists.

And now… new music!

Weekend Kpop Update | Taeyeon “Why” Teaser, New Music Video + MONSTA X’s Shownu “InStyle” + Jiyoung Talks Life After KARA, Acting in Japan

So this weekend was a musical haven it seems. New music was dropping every hour and I have to say, I was truly unprepared. Though we knew we were only days away from Taeyeon’s new album that was day partly in California, USA, I didn’t realize how close the day was approaching. Three days ago her new song “Starlight” featuring DEAN was released and now we have a teaser for her upcoming song, “Why”.

The official release date is tomorrow at midnight!

Monsta X’s Shownu had a solo photoshoot with InStyle magazine. And apparently, it’s his first since his debut.

Fun fact: He was a backup dancer for Lee Hyori “Bad Girl”.

After KARA disbanded, many of the members went on to sign to other labels and work in acting, but one member in particular, Jiyoung, went into acting in Japan. In a recent interview, she talked about this decision to go all the way to Japan and what it’s like to act there. And it wasn’t easy.

Jiyoung held an interview for the upcoming movie ‘Kataomoi Spiral’ and shared, “I learned how to discipline myself in Japan. ‘Today, I won’t read the screenplay and sleep,’ ‘Today, I’ll skip out on class.’ I was tempted by those things, but I always made the decision. I was in a group until then, so I did experience loneliness. If I didn’t become stronger, I would fail. What I made the most effort for is Japanese.”

She talked about the extra effort and caution she used when practicing conversations in Japanese. And it also helped that she had staff on hand to correct her when she made errors in her words.

One of the things she said in particular that stood out to me is that nobody asks her about KARA anymore instead they focus more on her acting now. And she’s only grateful they still pay attention to her.

“…they listened to me about my movie and promotions in Japan… I always want to receive love. A rookie award for film. I think it’s the best to receive an award after doing various work. I’d be happy if my acting was acknowledged.”

Very happy for Jiyoung!

Alright so we survived another week in the kpop world!! And the great news announcements keep coming! Your voices were heard and SBS is listening… TWICE’s Jungyeon, Gong Seung Yeon, and Kim Min Suk  have been officially announced as the new MC’s for Inkigayo. Congrats to the trio!

Taeyeon has a new album coming soon. She’s released teasers for the album and it’s also been announced now that Hyoyeon and DEAN will also be featured on the album. Hyoyeon be on the dance track “Up & Down”. And DEAN, for now all I know is that he was involved in the album. Album release date is June 28th! Super exciting!

Wonder Girls long awaited comeback “Why So Serious” has officially been released as of June 22nd KST. And they have a full schedule line-up…

miss A’s Fei is joining the realm of idols who have chosen to make a solo debut. And I have to say, I did see this one coming. This all comes after news of Jia leaving and joining a new agency, leaving miss A a trio.

For now, Fei is releasing a solo track sometime this summer and then… solo promotion plans?

A representative stated, “The precise date for the track release has not been decided yet. After organizing more specific plans, she will start solo activities.”

(source: soompi)

This translates that they will release the track, test the response and proceed from there. It’s all about marketing from here on out so if you want to see her solo career… Support her solo track!

BEAST has been making comeback plans for a while and now that the date for the official release is approaching, they’ve given the fans what they want to see… details and a tracklist!

For this album, the members actually had a hand in doing a lot of heavy lifting from producing to even song-writing.

“…Many of the songs were produced by Yong Junhyung’s producing team Good Life. Yong Junhyung also wrote the lyrics for many of the songs. Yoseob, Kikwang, and Dongwoon also participated in writing lyrics for several songs.”

In truly disappointing news, yet another agency has had to resort to legal actions against the nasty comments written by netizens trolling on social media. MBK Entertainment is fighting back against false rumors and allegations that have been spread through the internet, specifically about T-Ara, DIA, and Shannon.

MBK stated before that they originally didn’t see much harm in the comments as they just thought people were essentially just “showing interest”. But after time has passed, they realized that these rumors and comments have actually done more harm than good and now they want to seek legal action against the main people involved.

And apparently, they have a whole inbox full of tips from people. Looks like this is about to get really interesting.

And now for new music!!
