Monday Kpop Update | Tablo Interview, Talks HIGHGRND Amidst Release of Lee Hi New Album + Monday Couple Backlash? Netz Tired of Storyline + FIESTAR “A Delicate Sense” Live Performance

This weekend wasn’t as busy as last weekend in the kpop world so I took the time to take a break from it. Today, it’s still not very busy but there were a few things that happened that over the weekend that kinda carried over into today that I got excited about.

Starting with Lee Hi. If you remember a while back, they signed with Tablo’s independent label HIGHGRND. We got to see some teasers for the official debut of the company shortly before it was announced that Lee Hi’s comeback would be soon. Well, with the comeback news, many fans were wondering, what’s really the difference between HIGHGRND and YG Entertainment? Aren’t they the same? Tablo, owner of HIGHGRND says, “No, they’re different.” (no Lee Hi pun intended.)

In a recent interview with Sports Illgan, Tablo said:

“President Yang gave me this authority…. he must think by letting me take the lead independently that perhaps I will come up with totally different products from YG. He has no knowledge of all out decisions. He is also unaware of our ongoing plan. Legally, we are two different companies.”

I actually thought that HIGHGRND was a sub-unit of YG, I had no idea they were separate companies. Well, that’s good to know. And with Lee Hi’s newest single, I’m sure it clears up a lot about any agency speculation that may arise in the future.

If you haven’t heard it yet, check out their newest single below!

Everyone’s favorite Monday Couple is not so much a favorite anymore. At least, not for everyone. Apparently the idea of Song Ji Hyo and Gary being this adorable couple on Running Man has outstayed its welcome to some netz. It began about seven years ago. In the beginning, with Gary show his “love and affection” for Song Ji Hyo, everyone thought it was cute. But now, after the latest episode, netz are saying, “Give it rest!”

[ + 763, – 121] Honestly this is getting old. Their love line has been over used. How long are they going to hold on to this

[+ 579, – 88] I’m sorry but cut the BS. We know it’s all for show and just business

Well, with Song Ji Hyo’s latest ventures with the Chinese version of “We Got Married” and with other things she’ll be branching out and doing, I’m sure this is going to die down soon.

FIESTAR’s latest song “Mirror” has had a lot of people talking and excited about the new album. If you want to hear samples from the album, check out their MelOn live performance below!

Thursday Kpop Update | Jay Park Allegedly Dissing Jyp + IU’s Interpretation of “Zezé”, Publishing Company Responds + Netizens Express Anger After Tablo Announces He’s Leaving “Tablo’s Dreaming Radio”

I took a break from kpop news to talk about other things that I love like food and art. I think I’ll do that every Wednesday. However, in my absence, it seems the mood of the kpop world changed within 24 hours!! First, it was really good to hear that Girls Generation’s Seohyun was cast in a new Chinese film, “So I Married an Anti-Fan.” Congratulations to her on her new debut into the realm of acting!

However, things aren’t all happy in the world of kpop today.

There’s news of netizens calling out an alleged idol who apparently used to be bully. One user talked about it and now others are calling for them to reveal the person before they get famous and fans start to protect her. Yikes. And then of course, Dongho got married. But now he is calling for netizens to stop attacking his marriage! And he wants the reporters to stop too. He claims that ever since it was announced he was getting married, reporters reached out to him to write articles about it but he’s worried about what they’ll say. He doesn’t want or need anymore slander.

And speaking of slander… did you guys hear about Jay Park potentially dissing JYP? Apparently, fans have begun speculating about his new song on his album “Worldwide”. The lyrics seem to insinuate to them that it could be about JYP.

“My old teacher is jealous now that we’ll become same same. You’re a TV personality that sells fans. I continue forward even if you block me. Woah. XX I was about to be asked to a music festival. Yeah. But the old man doesn’t act his age. Childish childish. I’ve been free for five years. I’m at this level even if you block me. I’m doing fine. I don’t bother with you.”

(source: soompi)

I don’t personally know if it’s about him and his agency released a statement saying that Jay Park writes his own lyrics and so only he knows who he is talking about. So until he just outright says, “yes it’s about JYP” or “Nah, I’m talking about someone else”, we’ll never really know.

It’s really all just speculation at this point. However, this is a good marketing tool if he was trying to draw more attention to his album.

But since we’re talking about drawing attention to an album, IU has become another offender.

Apparently, on her new album “CHAT-SHIRE”, she has a song “Zezé”. I’m sure by now you’ve probably heard that the lyrics describe Zezé as being “cunning” and not as innocent as he may seem. Well, not only did fans take issue with the song but now Dongnyok Publishing Company, which published “My Sweet Orange Tree” has spoken out as well. They began their statement explaining that Zezé is “not that kind of child” and also quote the offending lyrics.

Here’s an excerpt of their official statement but click the link to see it in full.

“…Zeze is a five-year-old child who gets abused by his family and is full of hurt. So many readers shed tears at Zeze’s words, ‘Why must children grow up?’ However, Zeze is cunning in the song made from the point of [the tree]? ‘My Sweet Orange Tree’ is also an autobiographical novel of the writer. It is also a book that is meant to console the many Zezes who could even now be getting hurt. The writer had an intention [to console other Zezes] yet you assess the work like this…”

(source: allkpop)

They continue on by saying that she’s allowed to interpret as she wishes in regards to freedom of expression, however, her choice of expression and interpretation was disappointing and upsetting to them. And I can understand that 1000%. It is unnerving and it’s an upsetting image that she’s drawn with those lyrics. I don’t personally think she meant for it to take on the life that it has but it would be nice if she were to say something on her interpretation.

IU is staying silent but I do hope she plans on addressing it soon.

And last but not least, Tablo is receiving hate from netz. (again.)

But this time, it’s because he’s leaving a radio show. That’s right! They’re upset with him for leaving his radio show.

On November 3, during MBC FM4U’s “Tablo’s Dreaming Radio,” the male rapper announced he will be leaving the show. “I was happy while leading ‘Dreaming Radio’ for the past two years. November 15 will be my last day… I am sorry I was absent for many days thanks to the concerts and national tour supported by all this unexpected love,” he says. “Though I’m not sure when I’ll be back, I’ll be sure to pay back all your love with good music.”

(source: soompi)

He has a great reason for leaving, he’s working on his music. But apparently, fans were disappointed and expressed their emotions by bringing up things that had absolutely nothing to do with him leaving. All his past controversies they decided to bring back up into the spotlight.

Of course it wasn’t everyone. Others did wish him well and hope that he does in fact decide to return.

That’s enough internet for one day.

Tuesday Kpop Update | Jessica Jung Cast in Chinese Movie + EXO Member Test Question + Fan Blames Tablo for Broken Camera

Today was just a really controversial day for some reason. I heard something about JB allegedly saying something inappropriate. It’s a rumor and some netizen was just posting nonsense online. If it was said there’s no proof that everything she said was actually said so I won’t even entertain it. Moving along, Akdong Musicians posted a video asking fans to wait just a little bit longer. They’re working on some new things right now so they’re asking for patience. I’m happy to see they’re still working on music together. Can’t wait to hear the new music!

And speaking of getting to work, Jessica Jung was cast in a new Chinese movie. Currently, it’s called, “Love Package”.

“…According to Chinese media outlet SINA on October 27, Jessica was spotted filming with Hong Kong-based actor William Chan. This is Jessica’s first acting gig since her drama “Wild Romance” in 2012.

(source: soompi)

The two began filming for the movie in Beijing recently. And apparently, Jessica has been putting in some serious work to get her Chinese lines right.

Now on to this EXO test question. I heard about this some months ago! Like last year I think… is this a new test question? Who knows. But I do know, it has resurfaced. A netizen created the post talking about the question saying that they didn’t get a 100 because of this question. And I mean seriously, if you have no interest in kpop, how would you know the answer?

The question:

The question is asking to add up all the numbers in the parentheses within the following passage , “In the year of (   ), group activities conducted by large managing agencies became prevalent. From (   ) generation idols, such as HOT, SES, and Fin.K.L to current day’s EXO (     people), these groups have defined the Korean Wave and stand as the representatives of K-POP.”

(source: soompi)

And since we know the number for EXO is still subject to change, is “technically 12 but now possibly 8 or 9” an acceptable answer? (Too soon?)

And finally the story I didn’t even really want to talk about but I couldn’t help it. It was pure irony!!! So a netizen had a camera at the 22nd Family Concert which featured Epik High, EXO, BoA, Red Velvet, hyukoh. During the concert, Tablo sprayed the crowd with water. The next thing that happens is one of those things that just seems to only happen in movies. This netizen took to social media to write a scathing response to the incident.

The fan, ‘A‘, wrote, “****, if you were going to spray water, you should’ve said it beforehand. I was just calmly watching the show when my head got wet with water; I was completely taken by surprise and turned on my camera, but it wouldn’t turn on, you crazy b*tch. Ugh, I’m so pissed, I don’t even know what curses to say.  ****, Tablo, take responsibility for my camera.  You sprayed the water so refreshingly that the sensor’s gone out – so ****** pissed off.”

(source: allkpop)

The story gets better… well at least for Tablo it does. Why? Because turns out, cameras weren’t even allowed at the event! And other netizens let this one fan know, they were completely wrong. Of course a retraction post followed with the fan apologizing and taking responsibility for their actions and understanding that had they been following directions the camera never would’ve been destroyed.

Welp! The moral of this story, always follow directions ladies and gents.

Lee Hi | Returning Under New Agency

Lee Hi is officially making a comeback in style! She’s returning under the new agency, HIGHGRND. Lee Hi began as a solo artist at YG Entertainment before becoming part of the duo, Hi Suhyun. And now, after being absent from the music scene for a little while now, she’s going to be returning to the solo career she originally had.

But why is HIGHGRND is so exciting? Well, it’s the agency that is headed by none other than Tablo.

“Mr. Yang is too busy, and he was worried Lee Hi will not be getting the attention she deserves from him,” a YG Entertainment representative told Osen.  “So, he asked Tablo to take over preparations for Lee Hi’s comeback since Mr. Yang thinks highly of his producing skills.”

(source: kpopstarz)

Just to clarify, she’s still technically signed to YG Entertainment. However, HIGHGRND is going to be managing her album and promotions, etc. She hasn’t split from them. There’s no real word on what’s going with Hi Suhyun but I think since she’s still signed to YG, then there’s still a chance for a comeback with the duo as well.
