Wednesday Kpop Update | 2NE1 Final Farewell, “Goodbye” lyrics dedication from CL + Running Man Has Returned, Statement Released Discuss What Happened + YG Entertainment Zones In on Japanese Market, New Girl Group Debut? + New Music

There has been a lot going on in the world these past few weeks. With politics, show drama, producer statements, and artist/idol controversies and break-ups, it’s good to get back to the music!

Starting with 2NE1. I have to start with them. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t.

As we all know, 2NE1 has officially disbanded. Even after the revamp and the finished album that was never released, the world never got to meet the new 3-member group. With Bom currently inactive, CL and Dara still signed with YG and Minzy off to another agency working on new music, it made the fans question if we would ever get that official swan song. And it looks like we did but there’s a story behind this song that I thought was so poignant and moving. Apparently it was written by CL not only for the fans but also for Minzy, who is featured on the song.

“The song is something that I had written before. After Minzy left YG Entertainment, the three of us were preparing an album. It was a song that was supposed to be like a letter to Minzy. I edited the lyrics so it would be talking to both Minzy and the fans at the same time. It didn’t take me long to edit the lyrics because I move fast when someone is believing in me,” CL said in an emotional interview to IIgan, as quoted by AllKPop.

(source: ibtimes)

How sweet is that! The music video features just the three of them as they move through images of video of 2NE1’s history, including Bom. The final images show a photo of all four of them together and then finally the remaining three as they each go there separate ways.

The lyrics are incredibly moving and I’m so sorry to see them go. I want to believe this isn’t the end of 2NE1. I know how hard CL fought for this song to be released and how badly she wants 2NE1 to make a comeback so we’ll see. It’s been done before so certainly it can happen again!

For now, let’s all cheer them on as they all work on their own personal endeavors.

Running Man also is making a splash in the headlines. Apparently, it’s not ending this year. A statement released by the team stated:

“Running Man isn’t just a variety program. It boasts 100 million fans just overseas and I don’t think it’s fair not to reflect their opinions and decide the fate of the show just because of internal problems… I believe the correct path is to undergo change in order to become a better show and give more to the fans. That is why we are back.”

(source: koreaboo)

Interesting. But even though it’s not ending this year does that mean it’s a permanent thing? And will the old members return with new members?

“We’re keeping the possibility open but it’s hard to recruit someone right away. The original cast will continue to keep Running Man moving forward and we’ll keep looking for someone to fill Gary’s void. I think this is something we’ll have to keep working on to figure out…”

(source: koreaboo)

We’ll see who comes back officially and who we will be introduced to as new members. For now, it’s good to see that’s it returned.

It seems that YG is looking to expand. Apparently, they’re looking into the Japanese market to release new music and a potential new girl group.

Samsung Securities financial researcher Yang explained, “Though the company has not seen any concert cancellations or anything to that degree, we are continuously monitoring China’s limited regulations. YG will be focusing more on the Japanese market this season… YG Entertainment is said to be preparing for the debut of a new girl group following the success of Black Pink. With YG’s revenues from their acting division increased by 10% this past year, they recently recruited a new producer to be in charge of all the video content business industry. “

Well I guess this would be good news to fans in Japan of the large agency. This expansion could potentially be a really big deal so we’ll see what happens!

Wednesday Kpop Update | CUBE Entertainment Releases Statement on Fake SNS Accounts for CLC + Teen Top Announces a Solo and Group Comeback + MAMAMOO Covers Top English Songs

Surprise!!

Fake accounts are a favorite past time for many people on social media. Some are parody accounts of a living person or an inanimate object. And then there are the fake sns accounts that are perpetrating as the real deal. The issue has gotten so bad for particular group kpop group that their label had to step in on their behalf!

What group? CUBE Entertainment’s girl group, CLC.

They released a statement saying:

“…Below are the official url addresses for both CLC and Cube social media accounts.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/cubeclc
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CLC.UnitedCube/

Please note with the exception of the listed links above, all other Twitter and Facebook pages belong to impersonated accounts. Such unauthorized accounts masquerading as official like on Instagram and many others are not organized by CLC or Cube Entertainment…”

(full statement here at allkpop)

I guess it’s probably time to stop now for all those doing it. The account is going to get shut down sooner or later.

Solo artists and group comebacks can be the highlight of any year. And that’s no exception for the latest announcement from Teen Top! Prepare yourselves, Niel’s solo comeback is on the way and so is a group comeback!

And finally, MAMAMOO is one of those groups that can remake a song and have you just completely in love with their version. They have the ability to make any song all their own. But what if there were 7 of these songs? Apparently, MAMAMOO has recorded covers to 7 top charting songs in English. Songs like, John Legend’s “All of You”, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Stooshe’s “Love Me”, and a few others. I won’t post all the videos here, but you can listen to their covers at this link on koreaboo.

“Tuesday” Kpop Update | 4Minute Disbands, Statement + Jellyfish New Girl Group, Three Members from Produce 101 + Why Was I.O.I Edited Out of Dream Concert Broadcast?

Today is extremely rare right?! A blog post on a Tuesday! Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is really happening. And though I would’ve loved to have to started today on a good note, I have to say I’m a bit upset by the news today.

4Minute, one of my all-time favorite girl groups has decided to disband. It was bad enough that 2NE1 will never be the same but now 4Minute too??? Say it ain’t so!!

“As the contract end date approaches, the members have been in discussions for renewal, but while the agency tried to persuade them to continue the group, it ended up accepting the decision by the five members that they will not continue as a group.” The rep adds, “Due to the different opinion of the members, for all intents and purposes, the group will disband.”

(source: soompi)

It seems that Hyuna has actually decided to stay with Cube Entertainment however, it is uncertain whether the other members will also renew their contracts as solo artists.

It really makes me sad because I really thought they’d sign for another year or so but I guess it was time for them to go their separate ways. I wish them all the best even if this does pain me to say goodbye to 4Minute.

In the wake of 4Minute’s disbandment and a new girl group announcement from YG, Jellyfish has announced that they as well will be joining the fray and is in the process of introducing their own new girl group.

Surprise… Three of the members are from Produce 101!

On June 13th, Jellyfish Entertainment began teasing for their new girl group on their SNS accounts, writing, “Who is gx9? Kim Nayoung, Kim Sejeong, Kang Mina. Who is [the] next girl?” and posted what was most likely the girl group’s debut logo design.

(source: koreaboo)

Along with the teaser about gx9, they’ve released teasers for the first revealed members.

I’m pretty excited for this.

And finally, we get an answer from SBS about why I.O.I was edited out completely from the Dream Concert broadcast. The excuse?

SBS stated today, June 13 KST, “The reason why I.O.I was entirely edited out of the Dream Concert was because of the broadcast length. Other teams were also edited out. There was no malicious intent… “All performances were aired on SBS Plus, but on the main SBS channel, due to the TV programming schedule, a portion of the performances were inevitably cut out.”

(source: soompi)

Naturally fans were and still are outraged. I guess it makes sense but at the same time it doesn’t make sense. Everyone is kinda looking closely at I.O.I and considering the fact that they won’t be together long, I think after one year they’ll disband, it would make sense to me if they got a lot of airtime for the time being.

I don’t know about this one.

Wednesday Music Update | Minzy Breaks Silence – Releases Statement + Inkigayo Release Statement Amidst I.O.I Exclusion Rumors + Jessica’s New Solo Debut “With Love, J” + New Music Videos

The music world this week has been extremely busy. With new releases and comeback news, I’m surprised the world has not tilted yet.

Dal Shabet has been preparing fans for Subin’s new single, “Flower”. She’s released two more teaser photos before the release at Noon on May 12th KST.

Another recently announced solo debut artist, INFINITE’s Woohyun seems to have proven he truly has strong staying power in this industry. “Write…” went on pre-sale on May 9th and the 50,000 copies completely sold out before the official release on May 10th! Woolim went into overdrive trying to produce more albums overnight only to have to inform fans that production might take a little longer than expected. DEAN is also taking the world by storm by announcing his New York concert debut in June. After taking SXSW by storm back in March, he’s ready to return to the States for a showcase on the West Coast. Tickets are on sale starting at $45 on May 13th at Eventbrite!

And looks like we’ll be seeing Rapper Microdot in the near future! After seeing his performance on Show Me The Money 4, Culture Think has officially signed him to there label. They were thoroughly impressed with his performance and stage presence and are convinced he’ll be the perfect fit for their label. Sechs Kies also has officially signed with a label and they’ve signed with YG Entertainment. All the members, except Go Ji Young, have officially reunited to release new music for the fans. This comes right after their surprise reunion on Infinity Challenge.

But speaking of YG…

After announcing to the world that Minzy had chosen not to re-sign with the label and ultimately parting ways to 2NE1, rumors began sprouting out about the labels she would sign to or even if she would ever sign to a new label again. All the speculations about why she left and whether she was ok began creeping into the atmosphere and still not one word from Minzy herself.

She finally broke her silence by releasing a statement in the form of a letter to her fans through instagram. She writes:

Hello, this is Minzy. It is with a sincere heart that I write to you all. First, I would like to apologize to all those who expressed shock at the news of my departure. It is after careful consideration and much deliberation that I have decided to pursue a new journey as an artist named Minzy Kong. Ever since debuting with 2NE1 at the young age of 16, I have been grateful for the wonderful memories I shared with incredible fans worldwide. These experiences were undeniably precious and I take none of them for granted. Thank you all for helping me grow as an artist. I promise to work even harder to return before you all with an improved and more honest version of myself. Through a renewed vision and hard work, I hope to reciprocate the love, dedication, and support that you have shown me. Thank you to all the fans, family, and friends who have shown me their love and concern. I promise to return soon. love, Minzy

And though I’m sure fans will surely miss her when 2NE1 re-emerges as a trio now, it’s for the best. Let’s keep supporting them all as they go through this transition.

Inkigayo is doing damage control as rumors spiral that they deliberately excluded I.O.I from early voting. The voting list was released on May 22nd and listed songs from Sech Kies, Busker Busker, and even Crush’s new song “woo ah”. But I.O.I, who released “Dream Girl” on the same day as Crush’s single, was not on the list which prompted many fans to assume that the action was deliberate.

I.O.I has been unable to appear on any public broadcasting music show which means they haven’t been doing much promoting so nobody expected the outright exclusion. Today Inkigayo responded saying simply, “it’s nothing personal, they’re just too new”.

“The announcement of totals on the online audience board is last year’s. Every week, the No. 1 place is decided through the system. The system totals up various weights using music chart rankings as reference…. I.O.I’s song has not been released long enough to gather data. Early voting is only available for songs that were within the Top 60 in the past week.”

(source: soompi)

In spite of all of that, I.O.I still may be able to appear on Inkigayo in the future.

I guess that’s the silver lining in all of this…

To end on a happy note!

Check out Jessica’s newest teaser for her brand new solo debut of her album, “With Love, J”.  The official release date is May 17th at midnight!

And now for some new music…
