Weekend Kpop Update | I.O.I Yoojung Parody of “Very Good”, Zico Responds + “Goblin” Delay, Creators Statement + Gary and Gil Ready to Split?

So, usually the netisphere is buzzing with different things that I couldn’t begin to predict happening, but it’s been unusually quiet. Or maybe, I just haven’t been paying attention. Either way, it’s been a lot of good news!

Suga has returned to BTS following an injury. He was noticeably absent from some promotions and the end of the year performance but have no fear, he has returned and is ready for their comeback in the future!

I.O.I’s Yoojung is also having a good and interesting week! Her parody of Zico’s “Very Good” was extremely well received by the fans but also by Zico himself. After the show aired, he responded to it saying simply,

I was watching and I was surprised to see my own stage parody. Yoojung copied me better than myself. She managed to be cute at the same time, so I enjoyed watching it.”

If you’re a fan of the show “Goblin”, you may have been wondering what the hold up was! There was this amazing moment and a cliffhanger and everyone was waiting to see what was going to happen next, with three episodes left annnnnnnnnnnnnnddd… the next episode cancelled and replaced by a special episode, “All Days Were Good”.

So what happened????

The producers say… they wanted the graphics to look right. While debunking all the popular rumors and wide-spread speculations, they gave a really valid reason.

“..While is it true we had a hectic filming schedule; when we reached the middle episodes, we didn’t have any problems filming the rest… The delay is partly due to our PD’s ambitious goals. The last 3 episodes are going to be full of bright colors, as they will be focusing on a lot of the magical and fantastical aspects of the storyline. Thus, we are planning on using a lot of computer graphics, which requires a little more time. We don’t want the computer graphics to look tacky, so we’re focusing entirely on improving the visuals so that it can live up to the name of being a fantasy drama.”

(source: koreaboo)

Honestly, I think that’s a better way to end a show. I’d much rather it be a late airing and look good then to be thrown together and trash. Sooooooooooooo many good dramas have gone that route and it’s always super disappointing and upsetting.

Quality over quantity any day!

It’s being reported that the Leessang company is about to split up due to Gary and Gil wanting to pursue solo career paths. They’ve already started their own solo labels, Magic Mansion and Yangbans Nation, but is this really happening? Will Leessang break up too?

Leessang Company, owned by Leessang’s Gil and Gary, are currently in the process of closing their business, and have already enlisted their building up for sale. January 13, according to an insider in the industry, Leessang Company’s employees have not been working since last year, and the company’s building is currently on the market priced at 9 billion won since January 11.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens but honestly, this is super upsetting.

Monday Update | YG Ent. New Girl Group, Two Confirmed +”Produce 101″ Trainees Dropping Lawsuit + Jun Ji Hyun And Lee Min Ho Confirmed New SBS Drama

Ok so today has been really really busy!! If you don’t believe me, head over to twentythirdstation.tumblr.com to see more links of kpop/k-drama news. I couldn’t post it all here but I’ll talk about as much as I can.

RAIN’S “La Song” has made it back on the Chinese charts after two long years since its release. G-Friend’s Sin B has somehow managed to get into a world of trouble of an old photo that has begun circulating of her. Apparently, she’s flipping off the camera. Netz are saying that this is her alleged, “true nature”. (And I’m rolling my eyes.)

BIGBANG fans are calling for a boycott! They believe that, due to mismanagement of their recent activities, if they boycott their 2016 Soul Concert Live DVD it’ll send a message to their agency and hopefully changes will come with management and treatment. There list of grievances include, a busy schedule, lack of concern for the members health and a “lack of consideration over their image online or safety“.

I’m not sure how this will all turn out considering YG just announced that not only is there a potential comeback in the works, they’re also working on a new girl group!

“According to reports, the girl group will be produced by Teddy, and start revealing one member per week starting this week…. Yang Hyun Suk said they’ve practiced for a long time, so their skills are guaranteed. I trained them like they were my elite troops. They won’t really feel like the second 2NE1 because they have a different aura. I am a little nervous because they’re the first girl group in 7 years, but I’m also confident.”

(source: koreaboo)

So far, there are already two confirmed members to this new group, Kim Jisoo And Jennie Kim. The names may sound familiar as this has not only been circulating for a while that they may or may not be involved with this project and after a failed debut, it wasn’t looking possible, but now it looks the ladies will get their day in the sun/time to shine!

Produce 101 Trainees Lee Hae In and Lee Su Hyun made major headlines when they announced they would be filing a lawsuit against their agency SS Entertainment to terminate their exclusive contracts. They felt that the contracts were too extensive and they didn’t receive everything they were promised.

Well now, that lawsuit has been dropped.

“…[Lee Hae In and Lee Su Hyun]  have dropped their lawsuit against their agency regarding their contract after having reached a mutual agreement… The two girls’ representative and lawyer revealed on May 25th that the agency has agreed to terminate the girls’ contract without any additional conditions during a meeting just the day prior.

(source: koreaboo)

The statement released after this news broke by their representative went on to say that the two were apologetic to fans for “worrying them”.

Crisis averted?

And then there was k-drama news!!

It seems as though the kpop world has enough drama in it to keep your attention diverted from scripted dramas. (Because sometimes, life is far more entertaining than fiction)

Enter: Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho

The two have been officially confirmed for a new SBS drama that will be written by the same writers from the ever popular drama, “My Love From The Stars”. The drama was so popular that it has received international praise with an American adaptation in the works. With that type of credibility following these writers and with the caliber of acting ability that Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho both possess, this drama may very will be another smash hit for everyone involved.

“The drama, with the working title “Legend of the Blue Sea,” will star Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun, airing on SBS, Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting in November. It is slated to premiere after the end of “Incarnation of Envy.” The drama is a fantasy romance, taking its motif from the mermaid/merman story in Korea’s first historical (romance) storybook. In the Joseon-era storybook, it is recorded that real-life figure Kim Dam Nyeong returned mermaids/mermen that were caught fisherman back to the sea.”

(source: soompi)

And now that the rumors have been cleared and the two have been named official leads, it looks like it’s already picking up steam internationally. Chinese broadcasting companies are already looking to find someway to air the drama as well.

I’m so ready for this one!

Wednesday Kpop Update | SME Introducing New Boy Group + AOA New Sub-Unit + Mnet New Chinese Reality Competition for Girl Group

Today was a good day in the kpop world!

First thing’s first, welcome back Rainbow! Rainbow has officially announced their comeback for February 15th!

SM’s founder Lee So Man has decided that there needs to be a new way to release music and they’ve come up with a plan. They’ll be releasing music through their new music channel “Station”. Every 52 weeks a new song will be released and the first song to be released was Taeyeon’s!

Taeyeon released a teaser for her upcoming single “Rain”. This comes days after the release of her collaboration with CRUSH on “Don’t Forget”.

KARA’s Gyuri is receiving lots of love and praise from fans as she ventures into the world of acting. After the official news of KARA’s disbandment, many fans were wondering what would happen to the members, new and old. Well, one by one we’ve been given updates on what each member is choosing to do and now Gyuri has been cast in a role for the upcoming k-drama, Jang Yeong Sil. Can’t wait to see her act again!

SM has really been making waves today. First with the announcement of their new music channel platform and with the release of Taeyeon’s new song, and now we have been told that they will be producing a new boy group!

“…Lee Soo Man said, “Under the brand of ‘NCT (Neo Culture Technology)’ different teams will debut based in different countries around the world.” There will be various collaborations and units formed between the different groups, allowing for movement of members and new recruits into the groups. There also won’t be a set member number for these groups. The first unit is expected to debut in the spring and be active in Seoul and Japan in the first half of the year. In the second half, another team will debut, active in China. Other groups are expected to debut to target the South East Asia region and Latin America. These various group will take one song and sing it in different languages.”

(source: soompi)

The new group was announced at the “SMTOWN: New Culture Technology, 2016” conference. Let me just say, I’m already a huge fan! I love their sound!

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out their teasers below!

AOA has also joined in the huge news of the day by announcing they are in the process of creating a sub-unit. Three members of the group will be breaking off to form this unit.

But who will they be?

“FNC Entertainment’s rep told OSEN on January 27, ‘Chanmi, Hyejeong and Yuna will promote as a unit group. They are planned to release a new song in February. We ask for a lot of anticipation.'”

(source: allkpop)

That’s right everybody! Chanmi, Hyejeong, and Yuna are on their way to debut. The name hasn’t been released yet but I imagine it’s going to be part of their debut plans.

Can’t wait to see the teasers and hear the new music!

And finally, Mnet has decided to create a reality competition for a new girl group in China. This show is joining, “SMTM”, “Unpretty Rapstar”, “SIXTEEN”, and the currently airing show, “Produce 101” which is another reality competition.

“Mnet will be producing the idol survival program ‘Honeybee Girls’ that is scheduled to air February 3 on Zhejiang Satellite TV,” a representative said on January 27. “China expressed interest in our production department after seeing the show ‘SIXTEEN.’”

(source: soompi)

“Honeybee Girls” is a bit different that “Produce 101” because it will have 14 contestants vs. 101 and it’s specifically for China.

And now for new music to add to your playlists…

Monday Kpop Update | BTS’ SUGA and V Update + BTOB Fandom and Netizens Angry with SBS “Gayo Daejeon” + Starship Unveils New Members of Cosmic Girls

I’m trying to find a way to add a tagline to these kpop updates. I have the headline stories along with other stories that happened all in one post and I have no words to kinda help me express that. So if you have any ideas, drop them in the comments below and I just might use it! (Of course you’ll get a special shout-out if I pick your tagline!)

And now on to the news…

4Minute has officially announced that they will in fact be making a comeback in January. After the special selfie with Skrillex, it was only a matter of time before the official announcement was made. Lee Sung Kyung will give a special performance at the 2015 MBC Acting Awards. And actress Actress Lee Min-jung will join Rain back on the small screen for the new MBC drama, “Come Back Mister”. She will play the leading role as the widow.

Jessica Jung was also in the news today as she was featured on the cover of Singaporean magazine, NUYOU.

In great news, Big Hit decided to update fans on the status of Suga and V. After announcing that BTS would have to cancel show due to illness, it is has been revealed that everyone is ok.

“All of the BTS members returned to Korea on December 28, and members SUGA and V received close examinations at a specializing hospital in the country. The results of the examination show that there is thankfully nothing wrong with SUGA or V; on top of that, the other members were also revealed to have no problems with their health, so they have all returned to their dorms to rest…”

(source: allkpop)

But then there was the mishap with SBS’ “Gayo Daejun”… apparently during before BTOB performed a voice can be heard saying, “Why are they doing a musical again?” and it seems that BTOB may have been able to hear it as well and according to fans, it reflected in their performance.

(it can be heard at 0:20)

And now fans are upset. They’ve taken to their SNS accounts to express their displeasure and disbelief with SBS. Many saying that they were in tears watching the sadness and hurt in the eyes of each member of BTOB.

SBS later released a statement apologizing for the incident.

“First of all, we are sorry that we didn’t look into [the issue] sooner. The mic glitch is just a misunderstanding. At the time, the only mics present were the ones handed to the artists and the ones installed in the audience seats. No mics were handed to the staff members. The production crew will look into the exact cause [of the glitch], but in the meantime, it was determined that that was not the voice of our staff member.”

(source: allkpop)

Fans aren’t having it and they aren’t happy with how SBS has chosen to handle the situation. Some even saying that it sounds as if SBS is “blaming the audience”.

Maybe with the outrage something else will be said or done but for the time being, this may be the only acknowledgement we see of it.

And finally, Starship Entertainment is still announcing the new members of Cosmic Girls! This sub-group is the first one to not have any Chinese members.

These three members will make up the “Sweet Unit” sub-group, the third addition to the two previously revealed “Joy Unit” and “Wonder Unit” subgroups. This subunit is meant to be full of members who are sweet, but gentle, hence the name “Sweet Unit.”
