Wednesday Kpop Update | 2NE1 Final Farewell, “Goodbye” lyrics dedication from CL + Running Man Has Returned, Statement Released Discuss What Happened + YG Entertainment Zones In on Japanese Market, New Girl Group Debut? + New Music

There has been a lot going on in the world these past few weeks. With politics, show drama, producer statements, and artist/idol controversies and break-ups, it’s good to get back to the music!

Starting with 2NE1. I have to start with them. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t.

As we all know, 2NE1 has officially disbanded. Even after the revamp and the finished album that was never released, the world never got to meet the new 3-member group. With Bom currently inactive, CL and Dara still signed with YG and Minzy off to another agency working on new music, it made the fans question if we would ever get that official swan song. And it looks like we did but there’s a story behind this song that I thought was so poignant and moving. Apparently it was written by CL not only for the fans but also for Minzy, who is featured on the song.

“The song is something that I had written before. After Minzy left YG Entertainment, the three of us were preparing an album. It was a song that was supposed to be like a letter to Minzy. I edited the lyrics so it would be talking to both Minzy and the fans at the same time. It didn’t take me long to edit the lyrics because I move fast when someone is believing in me,” CL said in an emotional interview to IIgan, as quoted by AllKPop.

How sweet is that! The music video features just the three of them as they move through images of video of 2NE1’s history, including Bom. The final images show a photo of all four of them together and then finally the remaining three as they each go there separate ways.

The lyrics are incredibly moving and I’m so sorry to see them go. I want to believe this isn’t the end of 2NE1. I know how hard CL fought for this song to be released and how badly she wants 2NE1 to make a comeback so we’ll see. It’s been done before so certainly it can happen again!

For now, let’s all cheer them on as they all work on their own personal endeavors.

Running Man also is making a splash in the headlines. Apparently, it’s not ending this year. A statement released by the team stated:

“Running Man isn’t just a variety program. It boasts 100 million fans just overseas and I don’t think it’s fair not to reflect their opinions and decide the fate of the show just because of internal problems… I believe the correct path is to undergo change in order to become a better show and give more to the fans. That is why we are back.”

(source: koreaboo)

Interesting. But even though it’s not ending this year does that mean it’s a permanent thing? And will the old members return with new members?

“We’re keeping the possibility open but it’s hard to recruit someone right away. The original cast will continue to keep Running Man moving forward and we’ll keep looking for someone to fill Gary’s void. I think this is something we’ll have to keep working on to figure out…”

We’ll see who comes back officially and who we will be introduced to as new members. For now, it’s good to see that’s it returned.

It seems that YG is looking to expand. Apparently, they’re looking into the Japanese market to release new music and a potential new girl group.

Samsung Securities financial researcher Yang explained, “Though the company has not seen any concert cancellations or anything to that degree, we are continuously monitoring China’s limited regulations. YG will be focusing more on the Japanese market this season… YG Entertainment is said to be preparing for the debut of a new girl group following the success of Black Pink. With YG’s revenues from their acting division increased by 10% this past year, they recently recruited a new producer to be in charge of all the video content business industry. “

Well I guess this would be good news to fans in Japan of the large agency. This expansion could potentially be a really big deal so we’ll see what happens!

Wednesday Kpop Update | CUBE Entertainment Releases Statement on Fake SNS Accounts for CLC + Teen Top Announces a Solo and Group Comeback + MAMAMOO Covers Top English Songs

Surprise!!

Fake accounts are a favorite past time for many people on social media. Some are parody accounts of a living person or an inanimate object. And then there are the fake sns accounts that are perpetrating as the real deal. The issue has gotten so bad for particular group kpop group that their label had to step in on their behalf!

What group? CUBE Entertainment’s girl group, CLC.

They released a statement saying:

“…Below are the official url addresses for both CLC and Cube social media accounts.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/cubeclc
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CLC.UnitedCube/

Please note with the exception of the listed links above, all other Twitter and Facebook pages belong to impersonated accounts. Such unauthorized accounts masquerading as official like on Instagram and many others are not organized by CLC or Cube Entertainment…”

(full statement here at allkpop)

I guess it’s probably time to stop now for all those doing it. The account is going to get shut down sooner or later.

Solo artists and group comebacks can be the highlight of any year. And that’s no exception for the latest announcement from Teen Top! Prepare yourselves, Niel’s solo comeback is on the way and so is a group comeback!

And finally, MAMAMOO is one of those groups that can remake a song and have you just completely in love with their version. They have the ability to make any song all their own. But what if there were 7 of these songs? Apparently, MAMAMOO has recorded covers to 7 top charting songs in English. Songs like, John Legend’s “All of You”, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Stooshe’s “Love Me”, and a few others. I won’t post all the videos here, but you can listen to their covers at this link on koreaboo.

Solomon’s Perjury | New Show on 23rd’s List

Sooooo… I haven’t done a review in a while of shows that I’m currently watching. Usually I take strictly about movies but this show is one that has been stuck with me for a while! I just started watching and I have to say, this is literally one of the best shows I’ve seen since “I Remember You”, “Heal Me, Kill Me”, and “My Beautiful Bride”.

This show is based on the novel and Japanese film by the same title. It follows students of an elite high school who are faced with the tragedy of a student who has been pronounced “officially” as having committed suicide following an incident in a classroom lab. While the students process their grief, new evidence comes to the light to support a suspicion that this student may not have committed suicide after all but was in fact murdered. Frustrated with lack of adult involvement and with too much media interference, the students decide to take matters into their own hands and hold their own trial to determine what role they each played in the mystery and what’s really behind this whole situation in the first place.

After watching the first episode, immediately I had questions.

  1. So who would want to cover this up and why?
  2. How can we trust the eye witness account of one student who coincidentally was there that night?
  3. What did this particular student know that made him a target?

It is truly one of those shows that catches you from the very beginning and holds your attention all the way through. If you like murder/mystery, “who-done-it?”/thrillers, this is definitely the show to watch.

I’m still watching it. I’m currently on the second episode. So far, there are only three episodes out so I’m taking my time to watch because the last thing you want, if you’re an avid k-drama fan, is to start watching a show and then have to wait all week in suspense. (Which is currently what I’m trying to avoid!)

The show airs on JBTC, Fridays and Saturdays at 8.30 p.m. KST. If you haven’t heard of it before, check out the trailer below!

(Psst! Head over to Viki to start watching now!)

Wednesday Kpop Update | VIXX’s Ravi “R.EAL1ZE” Project + Park Bom Likes “XXI” Photo + MAMA 2016 Taeyeon vs Wiz Khalifa, What Happened?

So this was probably the most exciting thing I have seen in a while. This is Ravi’s  “R.EAL1ZE” Project.

. RAVI R.EAL1ZE PROJECT #real1ze_project #Ravi

A post shared by RAVI (@rravii0215) on

I have no clue what this is about. For now, it’s a mysterious project. However, if it’s anything like his last solo projects, this is sure to be epic!

Can’t wait to see more! For now, this is all we know.

Get ready for January 2017!!

Rumors have been flying that 2NE1 maybe not officially over but only disbanded and rebranded to start over fresh. The new name? XXI. Now this is ALL speculation and rumors. Nobody knows for sure what XXI is or who will be apart of it but the fact Park Bom liked a speculation photo of it is fueling the rumors.

Keep in mind, Bom has not officially re-signed with YG and CL and Dara have re-signed as solo artists. If there is some type of way that this could happen in the future, I do believe it’ll come as a huge surprise to the fans because YG loves to do huge events. I don’t think they’d spoil it like this.

But it is nice to dream… so I won’t kill the dream. Keep Hope Alive!

I was beyond confused about this story when I first heard it! But then I ran across this interview from koreaboo and I’m here to share what I know and what I learned. I’m going to kinda break this up a bit and I won’t go over everything because a lot of it is back and forth. We’ll stick to the facts and see if we can solve this puzzle together.

Full article here: [★EXCLUSIVE] Here’s what really happened between Taeyeon and Wiz Khalifa at MAMA 2016

So this may be the big elephant in the room… why is Taeyeon beefing with Wiz Khalifa?? Are they really beefing? What happened??

Here are the facts:

  1. Wiz Khalifa collaborated with Taeyeon on the song “See You Again” which was originally sung with Charlie Puth.
  2. Wiz and Taeyeon flew in for MAMA 2016 for a special stage, presenting the collab for the first time to the world.
  3. The stage never happened.

Okay, here is the real problem… what happened to cause this stage to never happen?

I’m going to take this in pieces because this is a long ride so hang on tight.

Wiz’s side:

So we got that part of it.

And then of course came the infamous part where they were told there may have been a translation issue because they were told that not only had she requested a separate stage but that she was going to the hospital. It now being taken to mean that it was meant she was going to the hotel. Regardless of all of this, they figured if she was going to perform that night anyway, at least allow her to perform with Wiz. They were told no.

Taeyeon’s side: [Released Statement]

“I see a lot of people being very curious about the performance yesterday so I’ll explain (I would be curious too). I was getting ready for the rehearsal and saying hi to Wiz Khalifa. I was excited for the performance and getting ready. Then I heard that there was a problem with the music. Due to this reason I was unable to even go through mic checks with him properly and unable to join him on stage.

For a live performance, you need an MR version of the song but they only had the AR ready. I was a bit taken aback since I was supposed to do a live performance, but I wanted to be on stage with him because the important thing was that we had a chance to collaborate…and honestly a chance like this doesn’t come often ^^. So I thought maybe if I sang louder than the AR vocal than I would be able to mask it ㅋㅋㅋ. The producers wanted to do their best and make the best performance possible. So we decided to go ahead with the AR. But then a few hours before the show I heard the news that my part had been cancelled. I guess performing overseas makes a lot of things unpredictable. Even during rehearsals the day before I heard that there was something wrong with the sound system, so I ended up returning to the hotel after waiting without even rehearsing.

I guess a lot of problems coincided. I was so saddened and disappointed that I had to return without being able to perform such a stage. I hope no misunderstandings happen because of this issue. I know there were people excited to see the performance after hearing about it. I promise you that I will return with a better stage next time. I am so grateful for everyone that supported me until the end yesterday.”

(source: koreaboo)

The point is, when you’re handling a performance like this with artists who are pretty much performing not only together for the first time but also in a high profile light, there needs to be much much more communication.

There was not enough proper communication between the labels and agencies. There was not enough communication between staff. And there was not enough communication at MAMA. Will they try this again? Honestly I don’t know.

However, it’s important to note that there is no bad blood between the artists.

And now… new music!
