안녕하세요!
For the word of the week, we talked about 여러분 which means, “everyone”. I mentioned, 우리들 as well. The words are indeed similar, but are the same? 우리 means “we” but the 들 changes the meaning to…? Did you guess it?
I chose 우리 (Uri) 나 (Na) 너 (Neo) today for the Grammar of the Week because even though it doesn’t seem like they related to the WOTD, they do. By now, we know at least three things about these words.
- They don’t mean the same thing. They have three distinct meanings and serve different purposes.
- They’re all pronouns.
- You don’t necessarily have to use them if it’s already implied who you’re talking about in the sentence.
You can probably list more things you already know about these words.
Let’s start making sentences! Remember: S-O-V/S-A
- 우리는
- Pronoun
- Subject
- “we; us; our”
- 우리는 가게에 갔다. “We went to the store”. [Verb usage: Past tense]
- 우리 집은 좋은 것입니다. “Our home is nice.”
- 우리를 위해 기다려! “Wait for us!”
- 나는
- Pronoun
- Subject
- “I”
- 나는 아름다움. “I am beautiful.”
- 나는 더 시간이 필요합니다. “I need more time.”
- 너는
- Pronoun
- Subject
- “You”
- 너는 떠날 필요. “You need to leave.”
- 너는 재미 있습니다. “You are funny.”
- 여러분
- Noun
- “Everybody”
- 여러분, 우리를 따르라! “Everybody, follow us!”
- 여러분, 이것은 나의 새로운 친구. “Everybody, this is my new friend.”
I wanted to make sure that the sentences were as simple as possible so you can see how it all comes together and can do it yourself in speech.
But how would you express the same pronouns you were speaking possessively? Examples: 나의 집, 나의 친구.
We’ll do those next week!
