Thursday Kpop Update | BIGBANG, New Song Release for Album Later this Year + Davichi Comeback Announcement + JYP, Suzy Not Going Solo… Yet

So I didn’t get to post this yesterday like I intended. After doing the WOTD I was tired! A lot of researching went into that post and it took me about two hours! After being at work all day and then doing that, I was exhausted. However, this Thursday, the last Thursday of the month, will be used to play catch-up. Next week, Foreign Language Tips returns!!

I guess today is the day of comeback news and new music! All positive energy here!

Surprise! BIGBANG is returning very soon!

After member Seungri revealed during an online broadcast that BIGBANG’s new album would be coming out by the end of this year and that they have been secretly recording for the new album, YG Entertainment has confirmed that the group is working on a new song and it almost complete.

I was super excited to hear the news that BIGBANG would be returning with a new album later this year and that they are currently working on a new song. Following the massive success of their last album and world tour, this is sure to be just as chart topping and popular!

With all the news of comebacks, I was beyond thrilled to hear of Davichi’s return! The duo are set to make their comeback in October! But they didn’t just make an announcement through a statement, they’ve released teasers to get us all ready!

I can’t wait for this new ballad! At least, I hope it’s a ballad.

And finally, I’m not sure where the rumors of Suzy going solo and debuting soon got started, but JYP is here to tell you, it’s not happening.

Today, September 29 KST, the same rumors found its way to the news, with more details. Allegedly, Suzy would be releasing a solo album in December. According to an affiliate, Suzy is currently preparing for her solo music promotion… In response, JYP Entertainment stated that their stance is the same as before – there is talk of it, but there are no concrete plans.

See you guys! It’ll happen.. just not yet.

Weekend Update | ARMY vs. Pillow Talk, The Case of Plagiarism + “Law Of The Jungle”, Viewers Want Choi Yeo Jin Edited Out + Olympics, North Korean Olympians Won’t Receive Samsung Gift

Alright so, instead of a Weekend Kpop Update, this is just a regular old update. And in my mind, it’s a bit more excited that way.

DIA is doing something really cute for the fans! They have decided for their comeback to record a new song, expressing their gratefulness to their fans, but the treat is, they’re recording this song with the fans. That’s right!  “The Love…”, which is a tribute to their one-year debut, will be sung with fans about the fans.

How cute is that?

With 2NE1 going from a foursome to a trio, many Blackjacks were left to wonder, “what’s going to happen to Minzy now?” Like I knew was going to happen, Minzy is doing just fine solo.

“On August 13, Minzy enjoyed an intimate gathering with about 40 fans at the Private Cinema in Cheongdam Cine City. The meeting lasted about an hour long and was broadcasted live via Naver V App for fans who couldn’t be physically present. “This is my first step,” Minzy shared. “I want to be with you all going forward until my 100th, 1,000th fan meeting. I am so happy. Let’s stay together.”

(source: soompi)

That solo debut is coming any day now and I can’t wait!

But all is not well in the world of K-pop, the BTS ARMY has picked up on something a little suspect in the YouTube world with an American group by the name of “Pillow Talk”. They have allegedly stolen the beat from the song “I Need U” for their song “Body Pillow”.

Apparently, Pillow Talk may have actually legally obtained the beat. There isn’t exactly a lawsuit pending nor is anyone affiliated with BTS talking about this, which leads me to wonder, is ARMY blowing this whole thing out of proportion?

Viewers of the show “Law Of The Jungle” saw an episode that included  Choi Yeo Jin and let’s just say, they weren’t pleased.

But why?

Well, this is a strong case of “guilt by association”. Choi Yeo Jin’s mom made a wave in the news, and not in a good way when she insulted Olympic medalist Ki Bo Bae. Later, Choi Yeo Jin and her mother both took to their SNS to apologize but by then the damage had been done. Now fans think that Choi should be edited out of the episode even though she did nothing wrong.

So far no comments from anyone associated with the show involving the viewer outrage has been released but as it stands, I doubt that will happen.

Okay so this last story is one I wanted to talk about because I saw it in a few places and thought this would be a pretty important issue to address for a lot of you interested in what was going on.

So word got out that the Olympians receive gifts and one of the gifts given this year were cellphones from Samsung. People also found out that the Noth Korean Olympians were not accepting the gifts and reactions ranged from outrage to shock to confusion to “why are we surprised?”

Well, there’s a reason why they turned the gifts. Though this isn’t the first time they’ve refused to accept gifts for various reasons, this time, it’s a bit more complicated. Cell phones are actually not allowed in North Korean. You could say they’re kinda… banned. Phones are actually smuggled into the country.

“…Smuggled-in Chinese mobile phones, which enable North Koreans near the border with China to gain access to its mobile networks, are an increasingly vital bridge between the North and the outside world… They connect North Koreans to relatives who have defected abroad, mostly to South Korea… [Mr. Kim] strengthened a crackdown on mobile phones smuggled from China, deploying more soldiers and modern surveillance devices along the border to jam signals or trace them to those using the banned phones…”

This story is actually one of the many that tend to shock outsiders who know very little about the tight and restrictive access in North Korea but I encourage you all to read the article to learn more about it.

Though it may be a small issue to us, it affects them greatly when they can’t communicate with the outside world nor family that have defected to other countries.

That’s all for the Weekend Update!

Wednesday Kpop Update | JYP Talks Park Ji-Min, Comeback + YMC and I.O.I: Sexy Concept Misunderstanding, Says Agency + VIXX “Fantasy” Teaser Comeback + New Music Videos

There is a lot to talk about today in the world of kpop. With the rumors of dating and new actors on the horizon, sometimes it is just so good to hear some kpop news that we’ve been waiting on.

To for example, 4Minute, everyone has been waiting patiently to see what was going to happen with the rest of the members. Afterall, we all knew that HyunA was going to make a solo comeback, but what about everyone else? Well, the news is out and it’s official, Jiyoon is prepping for her solo debut! She recently signed with a new agency, JS E&M, and they’ve put together a team to build her new image and new solo music. Jiyoon’s solo comeback date is scheduled for October.

BLACKPINK, YG’s new girl group, made their official debut this week and I have to agree with everyone else when I say this, they are really good! The ladies gave their first interview after debuting saying that they were “nervous” and working hard on creating their own signature color. Some fans have been drawing comparisons to previous YG groups like 2NE1 and even BIGBANG, but this is what they have to say.

YG’s Yang Hyun Suk shared his thoughts about BLACKPINK and 2NE1. “We didn’t try too hard to create a difference between BLACKPINK and 2NE1. It was the same when we created 2NE1. YG has its own unique sound so we focused on making the music sound the most like us,” he explained… He continued to say, “There is no leader. They have been friends for so long that having a leader is impossible. All four members can be leaders.”

(source: soompi)

As a fan of 2NE1 I have to say, while I watched their debut music videos, I could draw some similarities but overall, they are truly their own group with the classic YG sound. I loved watching them and can’t wait to hear the debut single album, “SQUARE ONE” which was released on the 8th!

And since we’re talking about comeback news, one of my all-time favorite solo artists Park Ji-Min is about to make her own solo comeback! After releasing the single “Hopeless Love”, she disappeared for a while. She did a few songs with 15& but we weren’t given any new official solo music. Now, JYP says, that’s about to change very soon.

On August 10, JYP Entertainment announced, “Park Ji Min is planning to make a comeback mid-August with a new song. She’s in the final stages of preparation.”

(source: allkpop)

This is great news! I can’t wait to hear her new music!

When it was announced that I.O.I’s comeback was going to be different than before, many people began to speculate what they could possibly be planning. And then teasers began to slip and fans went crazy! The net-o-sphere blew up with comments that the ladies were gonna go with a “sexy” concept. Even I fell for it…

And then YMC said… “Umm what?”

“This unit’s concept is not ‘sexy,’” a source from the agency says. “We didn’t emphasize sexiness at all, so we don’t know why we’re receiving this kind of response… Rather than sexiness, we wanted to emphasize the charisma [the girls] can display on stage and their girl crush charm,” the source continues. “This will definitely be a performance that differs from the previous ‘unique’ concept [for ‘Dream Girls].”

(source: soompi)

After listening to the new song, “Whatta Man” and watching the video I realized, it wasn’t meant to be sexy at all. I actually got the look they were going for before I read this and I have to say, I like their concept better than the rumors. The song samples the 90’s R&B song “Whatta Man” by En Vogue/Salt-N-Pepa. And though I remember when the original came out, (even though I was a little kid I do remember the song), I did like their take on it and I like the concept they chose to go with it.

And then there was VIXX…

We have been waiting tirelessly for a VIXX comeback. Or at least I have… and the teaser photos and announcements were just making me anxious. And then, this happened.

The video has been released on Naver but some kind soul decided to upload it to YouTube. Because for some reason, no matter how hard I tried to share it from Naver here it just wouldn’t work. However, I don’t know how long it’ll be up there but for the time being, you can watch it here.

I’m excited and can not wait for the new music!

That’s all for the Wednesday Kpop Update. And now for some new music!

Tuesday Update | I.O.I’s Kim Sohye Starting New Agency + “Doctors” First Episode Ratings + Lee Seung Gi’s Reps Want Formal Investigation, Rumors

Quick Note from TwentyThird:

These past few days there has been an explosive investigation involving  JYJ singer and actor Park Yu Chun and several women that are truly very serious allegations. You may notice that I have made no mention of it here and that is because I want to wait for the investigation to be complete before proceeding further with the story. Just know, I have been following it closely. Sexual Assault is a serious crime and should be handled with only the facts. However, if you are unfamiliar with what’s currently going on or in need of an update from a news source, click here for an article from the TheKoreaTimes.

There’s really no way to transition from something like that in a way that seems appropriate so I’ll just say…

Now on to lighter news.

I.O.I’s Kim Sohye’s is finally signed to a new label, S&P Entertainment!

“Kim Sohye, who is housed under S&P, is currently promoting in activities as an I.O.I member after debuting through being selected as fifth place on ‘Produce 101.’… “S&P Entertainment will work hard and tirelessly in order to repay your support.”

(source: soompi)

It’s really an exciting time for the ladies of I.O.I. With many of them now either returning to agencies or joining new agencies, it’s great to see them finally moving from trainees to idols!

Have you been following the premiere of new dramas? I hate to admit that the last one I followed, that was recent, was Descendants of the Sun. There have been plenty of new dramas that have begun to air but the one that’s catching everybody’s eye is “Doctors”. The first episode gained enough attention to reach 12.9 percent nationwide in ratings.

“Doctors” Bio

“The right mentor can determine if you go to jail or achieve something greater in life. Yoo Hye Jung (Park Shin Hye) has had a tough childhood and difficult life. She has dealt with the life challenges by becoming emotionally guarded and acting like a tough bully at school. When Hong Ji Hong (Kim Rae Won) meets Hye Jung, he recognizes her intelligence behind her gangster façade and sets her on a path to become a compassionate doctor. Now a doctor in a neurosurgery residency at a major hospital, Hye Jung works alongside fellow residents Jung Yoon Do (Yoon Kyun Sang) and Jin Seo Woo (Lee Sung Kyung). But when Seo Woo becomes Hye Jung’s biggest rival both professionally and personally, can Hye Jung overcome yet another major obstacle to her own personal happiness? “Doctors” is a 2016 South Korean drama series directed by Oh Choong Hwan.”

(source: Viki)

It’s been said that the first episode was pretty intense. I haven’t seen yet but I intend to watch it as soon as I can get an hour to spare. But if you’re looking for a place to watch it, my favorite source is Viki. You can watch the first episode here for free!

Lee Seung Gi’s Reps have been busy doing damage control after the news began to circulate that Lee Seung Gi may have a secret child that he visited frequently and was helping to raise. The rumor was spreading so far and wide that even Dispatch was pulled into the matter. The rumor claimed that they were the ones who were doing all the investigative work into the issue. Turns out the story was fabricated and now only is Dispatch speaking out to clear their name but Lee’s reps want a full police investigation into the matter.

“[The rumor] even went so far as to suggest that we are covering the story,” Dispatch writes. “We assure you that this is completely false. We don’t even currently have the workers to cover such a rumor.” They add, “We have confirmed that there is no such person on his make-up team.”

(source: soompi)

Lee Seung Gi’s agency officially filed a request to open an investigation into the rumor claims to find out who started them. And of course that will ultimately lead to some type of legal action.

This is nowhere near close to over.

And on that note… here’s a baby Xiumin dancing as a penguin. No seriously… it’s the cutest video ever!
