Weekend Kpop Update | IOI Fan Club Releases Public Announcement + Yoseob vs Cube Entertainment on Twitter (Jesting Tweet) + Superbee’s Vulgar Lyrics Explanation

Alright so in short, this weekend was kinda weird in the kpop world. AOA pulled a video and then re-released a version of it that was more appropriate. Jessica’s countdown as moved and now fans are questioning if she’ll be promoting at all. And a tv show ranked actors who they feel are the top 20 idol actors in the industry and upset a lot of people.

It was just… odd.

But it seems that things are taking a turn for the worse with DIA if they don’t listen to their fans. The agreement was, Jung Chae Yeon would promote with IOI and release an album and be tied to them as a group for a year before rejoining DIA. Apparently, that has somehow changed and she may be coming back sooner. The plot twist didn’t sit too well with fans.

In a statement, they let the agency know that this wasn’t going to work for them and that if they did it anyway, consequences would commence.

“…The current period, which is far from the official conclusion of IOI’s one-year promotions, is not the right time [for Jung Chae Yeon] to join DIA. We cannot accept the agency’s decision which we expect will have a negative effect on IOI’s group activities as well as Jung Chae Yeon’s promotions… We oppose Jung Chae Yeon’s addition to DIA while she is promoting with IOI, and should Jung Chae Yeon join DIA during this time period, we will boycott all [of DIA’s] activities…”

They actually have a really good reason for this. They’re extremely worried about Jung Chae Yeon because of all the promoting and work, they’re worried for her health. They want to make sure that she’s healthy and that they honor their agreement of a one year promotion with IOI only first.

BEAST’s Yoseob has managed to become one of my favorite people with one single tweet.

“Hey Cube how are you doing? I’m singing with Jo Soomi I thought I’d just let you know since it didn’t look like you knew. Anyway have a good friday.”

(source: koreaboo)

The tweet has apparently been deleted but it was needed. It was clearly meant to be all in jest but I hope they start acknowledging his promoting activities a bit more.

Superbee has to be the strangest story of the day. Though he’s no stranger to controversy, I think today’s story definitely tops the cake! He said the most vulgar thing… I won’t even copy/paste on here but I’m sure by now you’ve heard his “101 pretty sexy…in my bedroom” comment in the song “Everything” on Swings’ mixtape Levitate 2.

Fans began to speculate that the comment could’ve been in reference to IOI and when asked about it, Superbee said…

“Hello, it’s nice to meet you and thank you. I worked on ‘Everything’ last year~I wrote [the lyrics] after watching ‘101 Dalmatians.'”

(source: allkpop)

Umm… if you have heard the comment, then you know how weird this explanation may seem. And apparently, fans thought so too.

Netizens have been generally skeptical of this response from Superbee, commenting, “What a joke. How can he use that as an excuse? That’s even more despicable,” “He’s crazier than I thought if he wrote those lyrics after watching ‘101 Dalmatians,'” “His excuse is even more perverted,”…

I really have no words for this one.

Weekend Kpop Update | YG’s Teddy New Label “THE BLACK LABEL” + BTS vs. Netz Plagiarism Accusations Continue + I.O.I Accused on Copying SNSD

Ok so yesterday was awful! I tried to post a weekend update and the internet was out. So I tried writing it from my tablet and just ended up being super frustrated by autocorrect. I almost gave up writing the Grammar of the Week post. It literally took me almost 2 hours to write one post! Frustration is not even an accurate word to describe my feelings.

However… the show goes on today!

In lighter news, YG’s Teddy is auditioning for his new label that’ll be housed under YG Entertainment, “THE BLACK LABEL”. The label is a sub-unit like follow label mate Tablo’s HIGHGRND. Both will have a distinctive sound from the YG sound, and I have to say, after hearing and seeing HIGHGRND, I can’t wait to hear something from “THE BLACK LABEL”.

The auditions will run from May 2nd until May 31st. Applicants must fill out an application here, submit it through email, and then after receiving a confirmation email can go on to the onsite auditions. They’re looking for applicants in the areas of Singing, Rapping, Dancing and Appearance but you can only pick two. It’s open to all ages and nationalities.

Clearly, “THE BLACK LABEL” is going for diversity and I can’t wait to see the new recruits!

Over the weekend, an interesting development took place online. Even though it’s just being published today on allkpop, and you can see the full article here, I kinda watched it play out before then. Apparently, there are some netizens who believe that BTS may have copied SHINee’s concept (and even a little bit of BIGBANG) for their new comeback concept “Young Forever”.

The accusations are “startling” to say the least. (Editor’s note: sarcasm intended)

Honestly, this just seems like a really bad attempt at starting a fan-war. Most of Shawol’s aren’t even upset by the concept. In fact, they actually support it a bit. (Not all, but enough of them to make this a non-issue)

Here’s the alleged “proof”

I’ll just say it… this isn’t even a concept SHINee created. It looks very European 70-ish. It’s been recycled for decades. Very Beatles with the bus. It’s not even a big deal.

Let’s move along. Congrats to ARMY and Shawol for being so good about this and not allowing drama to enter into the comeback season space.

I wish the same could be said with YMC Entertainment’s I.O.I vs SNSD but apparently, the proof is in the video. The controversy is surrounding I.O.I’s video for “Dream Girls” in comparison to SNSD’s “Brave New World”.

It got so bad a representative from YMC had to release a statement in defense of the ladies and the video!

I.O.I’s representatives told news outlet Herald POP on May 2, “The music video was made to suit the lyrics, which are about hopes and dreams.” They explained further that “Dream Girls” aims to send a bright and hopeful message that a dream can be achieved if one diligently works for it.

Right now, it’s just a teaser so I’m not sure how they can automatically jump on the “plagiarism” train without the full video but whatever.

Here it is below.

Monday Kpop Update | Yoo So Young Posts about Fan at BIGBANG Concert + Comedienne Lee Guk Joo Apologizing Via SNS + DIA 6-Member Group

As if the weekend wasn’t busy enough, today’s kpop news has been super busy as well. There was so much going on I didn’t even know where to start! I should’ve been following the feed a little better I guess.

Jessie has officially announced she’s making a solo comeback. This time, instead of her tough girl image, she’s going for a softer side. She’s releasing a kpop r&b ballad. Seo In Guk has also made a comeback. He released a new ballad called “Seasons of the Heart”. Apparently, he not only sings the track but he also had a hand in composing and writing it. Not bad.

EXID’s Hani worried a lot of fans over the weekend with her sudden illness. However, have no fear, says a rep from her agency, she’s doing better. Glad to hear that! They also wanted to let everyone know that in light of her health, she hasn’t had a busy schedule and they’ve made sure to give her time to rest.

Supernova’s Yoon Sungmo is still in a lot of hot water after his recent drunk driving incident. Apparently, he drove over the line in the road, made an illegal u-turn, crashed into a telephone pole, made a left turn and stopped short causing an accident with the police chasing him, injuring the two officers. Today, his agency Maroo Entertainment has released a statement addressing the incident, saying simply that not only does he accept responsibility for his actions but he will also be cooperating fully with the investigation.

Former After School member Yoo So Young made waves with netz when she posted a picture on her instagram account of a fan who was standing during the BIGBANG concert blocking her view. Apparently, everyone else was sitting down.

In the post she said,

“It’s not polite to be the only one standing inside the concert venue. What are the people behind you supposed to do?”

(source: soompi)

She later deleted the post after getting mixed reviews from fans. Some saying that it’s good she put the fan on blast, others upset that she would post it without the fans knowledge even if it doesn’t show the fan’s face and of course they want her to apology.

Speaking of apologies…

Comedienne Lee Guk Joo is apologizing this week for what she called her “careless behavior”. Apparently, the comedienne ruffled a lot of feathers all in the name of a joke and it upset a lot of fans.

“I am sorry to everyone whom I offended. I will make sure to be extra cautious of going overboard because I’m only focusing on being funny. I will be all the more thoughtful and all the more careful and work all the more diligently.

(source: soompi)

I’m not entirely sure what she’s sorry for, as she never specifically says, but it may have to do with recent incidents. A lot of fans have been speculating that it could be because she expresses too much skinship with guests on her show.

And finally, DIA has returned with 18 year old Chaewon. They are now a 6-member kpop girl group!

You may remember that two of their members, Cathy and Chaeyeon, left temporarily for the Produce 101 program. The show were they will pick only 11 girls to debut and promote together for like a year or something and then, Cathy and Chaeyeon will return to DIA.

MBK Entertainment released a statement surrounding the news saying,

“Since Cathy and Chaeyeon have both temporarily left the group to participate on the cable show Produce 101, we have reorganized the group and recruited a new member to fill the vacant spot.”

( source: koogle.tv)

Well I’m sure they’ll still have the same great sound and it’ll be great to have Cathy and Chaeyeon back to join the 6 of them again.

Weekend Kpop Update | Yoon Eun Hye Apologizes for Plagiarism Scandal + FNC Entertainment Warns of Fake Yoo Jae Suk + Yoonmirae “This Love” (video)

This weekend was a bit of a rollercoaster.

EXO-L’s played “I-Spy” with Music Bank. They “spot with their little eye” that Lay was missing from the comeback stage previews. Umm what?

Ok maybe I’m missing something here but, where’s Lay? No official word yet on the oversight but I’m sure they’ll probably add him later when nobody’s watching.

After months of waiting, Yoon Eun Hye finally released an apology. She apologized while greeting reporters at an opening for a fashion line.

“Thank you for coming and I apologize for causing a controversy. I will continue to work hard and not disappoint.”

(source: koreaboo)

I have to say, honestly, I don’t know why she did it. I thought she already addressed the matter and that it was pretty much done and over with. Why she’s apologizing now I don’t know. I guess she was ready to clear the air and move on. However, netz weren’t having it and said her apology was “too little too late”.

At least she apologized…

FNC Entertainment does not want these imposters getting comfortable creating fake accounts, specifically of Yoo Jae Suk. Yoo Jae Suk has become the latest victim to online forgery as there is someone (or a group) posing as him on social media platforms. Fans were super excited to see the MC online and buzz spread quickly.

FNC wants everyone to know, it’s not our beloved MC.

“Representing Yoo Jae Suk, FNC Entertainment warned against the fake account through its official Facebook page on December 13. The agency made clear that Yoo Jae Suk does not manage a Facebook account on his own and his news are officially relayed through FNC Entertainment’s Facebook account — all other accounts are fake.”

(source: soompi)

Well looks like there’s no point in following that account at all.

And of course my favorite news of the day, Yoonmirae is back with a new ballad, “This Love”.

If you haven’t heard it, check it out below!
