Monday Kpop Update | Jellyfish Entertainment Statement on Leo and Ravi + BIGBANG Guerrilla Concert Cancelled, YG Statement + Jessica SBS Appearance Cancelled, SBS Statement

So this post is going to kinda be a kpop music update post. I had a post with way more information but of course WordPress automatically saves every few seconds and when the entire post got deleted, I lost everything soooooooooooooooooooooooo… let’s just get straight into the news.

No videos today but check back Wednesday!

With all the new music announcements and comeback news for the summer, the most exciting part is the concerts! Fans of VIXX were super excited, as they have been on tour this whole time… new music and concerts, VIXX is on a roll! But then in Mexico it was reported that Ravi collapsed and Leo was missing from the finale. Despite the reassurance from N that both parties were doing ok, fans were still worried.

Now today, Jellyfish Entertainment has issued a statement.

“The venue location’s high altitude and the heat of the performance hall caused [Ravi and Leo] to be dizzy and they could no longer continue [performing] on stage. Leo and Ravi received emergency medical treatment from the team that were standing by at the venue and are in the process of recuperating.”

I’m sure the travelling hasn’t been much help either in terms of getting rest and staying healthy. However, it is good to know that they’re doing fine!

In other concert news, YG announced that BIGBANG’s guerrilla concert was not going to happen like expected. It was said about a week ago that BIGBANG would be performing a surprise pop-up concert. And now today YG said, in true YG fashion, “the show is cancelled”. But they later released a statement saying that they are working on something better.

“We want to let everyone know that we’re in the process of developing ideas so that fans can safely enjoy [Big Bang’s] ten-year anniversary.”

(source: allkpop)

I guess legions of screaming fans potentially causing a stampede in the middle of the street didn’t seem all that appealing in hindsight.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what they come up with!

And finally, Jessica has been sparking waves, good and bad lately. After releasing her first solo album since leaving SM Entertainment, fans were ready for her to begin music promotions. It was later reported that she wouldn’t be doing too much of that. After all, she is running a fashion line simultaneously with making music.

But then it was announced that even more of her appearances were either going to be cut short, or not happening. Like her now cancelled appearance on SBS’s Lee Kuk Ju’s Young Street.

“Jessica’s reps have said, “[Her appearance] was decided upon last Wednesday, and then her scheduled appearance was cancelled on the weekend. We haven’t heard the exact reason for the cancellation. She is very disappointed because she had been preparing to perform live…According to SBS, the radio show had first secured Jo Moon Geun Band as a guest on the show for the episode, and then invited Jessica… SBS states, “After some internal discussion, we decided to invite her to appear on her own next time instead, and asked Jessica’s representatives for their understanding.”

(source: soompi)

Looks like a serious misunderstanding there. Even though this isn’t the first time they seem to have had a misunderstanding with Jessica’s team, i.e., Inkigayo name removal incident, they are doing their best to make amends.

However, she will be appearing on another show, Park So Hyun’s Love Game May 28th.

Weekend/Monday Kpop Update | Seventeen’s Wonwoo Apologizes for Past SNSD Anti-fan Behavior + BTS Guest Star on 300th Episode of “Running Man” + Corn-Eating Trend Viral Video

I wanted to do this post yesterday but I couldn’t because I got a migraine out of nowhere. I unfortunately am one of the many who suffer from migraines. They’re awful.

However, I’m here today! So let’s get started!

We start this weekend with news about Seventeen’s Wonwoo who recently publicly apologized for his past “anti-fan” behavior against Girls’ Generation. Apparently, his many hateful and crude comments were leaked and he decided he wanted to apologize personally. Pledis Entertainment said in response:

“He wanted to apologize himself instead of through the label. He thought this would be the best way to express his feelings, so we are revealing this after a lot of thought. We apologize for not fulfilling our role as a guardian.”

(source: allkpop)

Many fans of Seventeen and SNSD are pretty divided on the issue. Though they are glad that he matured and apologized, some say it is either too little too late or that he’s only do this because it’s happening to him now. In other words, they don’t think he’s being too sincere. Personally, I can’t say whether or not I agree with them, but I do think we all make mistakes and this is just one of his. Hopefully in the future he’ll be more mindful of what he says about others.

You can view the full apology letter here below this is an excerpt.

“…First, I want to apologize for everyone who I have hurt by this situation. Instead of making excuses by saying they were foolish mistakes I made when I was young, or saying that I don’t remember what I did, I believed that admitting my faults and apologizing was the right choice, which is why I’m writing this…. Even though I wrote it when I was young, it is definitely something I wrote, and I am sorry to the Girls’ Generation sunbaenims, their fans, as well as Carats who were hurt by this. I am also sorry to the members, who worked hard together to become Seventeen together… I will work hard never to disappoint again. I will read all the criticism and advice on my immature actions and never forget them. Also, please continue to teach me. I apologize once again.”

The full letter is about a page or two long.

BTS will be guest starring on the 300th episode of “Running Man”! It was announced through instagram that they are currently filming for the appearance on the show. They also posted a picture that has all of BTS dressed in black against Running Man in all pink.

Apparently there’s a new trend to eat corn fast and it was all apparently started by this guy.

Well, the video went viral and copycat videos sprung up from it. And though there were some successes, the one that’s gone viral and potentially surpassing the popularity of the original is a video being dubbed “The Corn Girl”. She tried and well… it went horribly wrong!

I do mean… horribly wrong.

Thankfully she’s okay! The second half of the video she updated viewers by showing her doctor’s visit to treat her scalp.

Monday Kpop Update | VIXX Comeback Concept + EXO’s K-FRIENDS Concert Organizers Upset Fans + Luhan Solo Concert

This post may be a bit later than usual today only because I was super late writing it. Earlier today I had decided not to do a kpop update but then I saw I haven’t really done one in a while and so here it is.

VIXX released a new teaser as they prepare for the comeback. The concept and theme has fans excited as they get ready to experience something new and seriously I can’t wait. This just looks like it’ll be better than their last one and honestly I didn’t think they could top that one but I think they just did with this teaser.

EXO fans are thoroughly upset with concert organizers in Shanghai. It seems that these organizers still have yet to learn their lesson from the last time! This incident seems similar to before. Fans were promised one thing and got something entirely different.

“… The organizers who hosted the concert advertised EXO’s K-FRIENDS Shanghai concert would be held on March 27, for three hours from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (local time). All EXO members were to be present, with a total of 10 songs and other events planned for the concert… However, unlike what was advertised, EXO’s Lay was unable to attend due a schedule conflict with movie filming, and instead of 10 songs, they only performed five. The concert ended before 9 p.m. (local time), igniting a heated response from fans who attended, asking for refunds.”

(source: soompi)

And apparently, it gets worse. Not only did fans rush to buy tickets after hearing of this for the promotions, but ticket prices ended up shooting up to “4000-6000 yuan (approximately $600-$900), with front row seats reaching 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,500)”. That’s around the same amount it would cost to go see Hamilton live. (Yes, I’m a Hamilton fan… a huge one!)

The fans were told to prepare items and gifts like full-length mirrors, clothes hangers, etc. for backstage use and then this happens. But apparently the organizers said, they were tricked too! I won’t post the whole statement they released, you can see it at soompi if you click the link.

“…We advertised the information word for word as we received it. We removed Lay from the performers list after later learning about his inability to attend. We will release more concrete details regarding refunds for tickets at a later time.”

(source: soompi)

At this moment, I don’t know what to believe. I won’t tell you what to believe but I do think it’s more to this story than they’re letting on in that statement.

In lighter news, Luhan performed live for his very first concert in Beijing solo. It’s a pretty big deal to see an idol do something like this especially after everything he’s been through. But congrats to him!

Monday Kpop Update | Cube Responds to Hyunseung Leaving B2ST Rumors + Woolim Entertainment and SM C&C Split + Block B Comeback with Individual Teasers + Jay Park “The Truth Is” MV

So here we are again, back for another week of kpop news. I have to say, with all the rumors and lawsuits and mergers and splits… it’s a wonder how the kpop industry hasn’t become it’s own k-drama. They have all the elements for a really good one too.

Kicking off today with news about B2ST’s Hyunseung. Apparently, the rumor mill was in overdrive with allegations that Hyunseung was leaving the group. Fans were worried and netz were spreading it all over the internet, all in an effort to get some answers. And now, the answer has been given from CUBE Entertainment. And their response is, no, no he’s not leaving.

“This is false. Hyunseung will not be leaving the group. The six of them… will promote together as is in the future. Hyunseung has plans to participate in B2ST’s future schedules, including the planned B2ST fan meeting in Taiwan on April 4th.”

(source: allkpop)

But how did this all get started anyway? Hyunseung was missing for a good majority of the promotions of B2ST and with his absence, rumors began. Apparently a news site said they had various sources who said that Hyunseung was getting ready to leave and the stage was set for his departure. Huge side-eye.

Woolim and SM C&C are making a lot of people happy today. They announced that they will be merged as one no more! They are becoming two separate entities. I’m sure this may come as a shock to many but great news for those who never agreed with the merger in the first place.

“…SM C&C revealed its decision to separate the video content business and the music content business.  This will result in remaining company SM C&C managing the video content production, management, and traveling agency.  Woollim Entertainment will be a separate entity… returning to its independent state…”

(source: allkpop)

So according to this split, Woollim will now maintain their own music content. I wonder how this will affect the contracts of those who signed because of this merger or even the groups currently under this. My guess is that it won’t be too much of a difference.

I’m just glad this was done peacefully and not as the result of a lawsuit.

Block B decided to rock the kpop world when they announced their long awaited comeback and now they’re giving us proof with their individual teasers for their new single!

Official release date is on the 28th!

How often do we get to hear Jay Park sing? Usually the rapper but I do love when he releases a ballad every now and then. And I guess what? He released a new song. It’s not a ballad but he is singing.. Check out his new song, “The Truth Is”.
