어디에 살아요? (eodi-e sal-ayo) | [Word of the Day]

안녕하세요!

In the theme of asking questions and learning phrases, I decided to go back to something familiar. We’re going back, way back, to the time when we asked “어디” and when we were learning location particles.

It’s important to go back to these things because… even though you’re not currently studying them, you still need to know them.

Let’s get started!

i.e.,

  • 어디에 살아요? (eodi-e sal-ayo) | “where do you live?”
  • 나 미국에 사세요. (na migug-e saseyo.) | “I live in America.”

There are really two words here that can be used, technically interchangeably. 살아요 and 사세요. They both can take on the meaning of, “to live” or “to stay”.

Okay so that’s it for today!

Quick note: If you’re looking for the Wednesday Kpop Update, it’ll be updapted probably this weekend. I can’t do it today unfortunately. Things came up so I’ll have to move the date but it is coming for sure!

Kpop Music Update | Taeyeon Comeback, Films Solo Videos in the US + Lee Hi’s Impromptu Acapella Performance, Audience Sings Along + YG’s “Who’s Next?” + Videos

Alright so with all the buzz from Monday’s news, I wasn’t sure if the kpop world could shock me at all again this week. But with Sulli randomly reappearing on Instagram, I.O.I’s fans being perverted by following them into the bathroom and taking pictures, the “banana diet(you don’t want to know but go ahead and click the link anyway) and Rap Monster revealing his singing voice… the kpop world surely didn’t disappoint.

Taeyeon has been very quiet since the release of her first solo album and now we all know why. She’s been secretly preparing for a new comeback… in the US???

In response to initial reports, SM Entertainment confirms that Taeyeon recently filmed her comeback music video in the U.S. It added that it will reveal the specific schedule for her comeback once everything is confirmed.

(source: soompi)

That was huge news that I’m sure a lot of us weren’t prepared for! No word on the official comeback date. However, she is going to performing live in Seoul for her solo concert “Butterfly Kiss”. Once that’s over, I think we might be getting more news.

How many times have you ever seen a live performance and out of nowhere the music stops? Or there’s some type of audio malfunction? And then when the malfunction happens, the artist just stops out of nowhere?

Well, that type of performer is not Lee Hi nor her fans!

During her performance of her debut song, “1, 2, 3, 4” the background music just cut off. What her fans decided to do was fill in the rest so she could continue her performance!

Now THAT was amazing! And right on cue, the music comes back on and of course goes out again because of technical difficulties but who needs music with a crowd like that???

The show must go on!

And finally, YG almost broke the internet again with a “Who’s Next?” teaser. The picture shows a typewriter with the words “Who’s Next?” and “Very Soon”. My personal guess is 2NE1 but I’m usually wrong when it comes to YG’s teasers.

What should have been super exciting though is kinda irritating the folks over on naver. Apparently, they’re really sick of these “Who’s Next?” teasers.

2. [+643, -36] Am I the only one who hates these who’s next posters, I really wish they’d stop it

3. [+496, -24] What’s it matter if YG has a ton of artists when they all get 2 year hiatuses and barely have any comebacks

4. [+465, -29] Not even curious over these teasers anymore ㅋㅋㅋ

Those are just a few of the translated posts but you can see more at the link. I guess YG might want to make that grand reveal soon.

Monday Kpop Update | Jellyfish Entertainment Statement on Leo and Ravi + BIGBANG Guerrilla Concert Cancelled, YG Statement + Jessica SBS Appearance Cancelled, SBS Statement

So this post is going to kinda be a kpop music update post. I had a post with way more information but of course WordPress automatically saves every few seconds and when the entire post got deleted, I lost everything soooooooooooooooooooooooo… let’s just get straight into the news.

No videos today but check back Wednesday!

With all the new music announcements and comeback news for the summer, the most exciting part is the concerts! Fans of VIXX were super excited, as they have been on tour this whole time… new music and concerts, VIXX is on a roll! But then in Mexico it was reported that Ravi collapsed and Leo was missing from the finale. Despite the reassurance from N that both parties were doing ok, fans were still worried.

Now today, Jellyfish Entertainment has issued a statement.

“The venue location’s high altitude and the heat of the performance hall caused [Ravi and Leo] to be dizzy and they could no longer continue [performing] on stage. Leo and Ravi received emergency medical treatment from the team that were standing by at the venue and are in the process of recuperating.”

I’m sure the travelling hasn’t been much help either in terms of getting rest and staying healthy. However, it is good to know that they’re doing fine!

In other concert news, YG announced that BIGBANG’s guerrilla concert was not going to happen like expected. It was said about a week ago that BIGBANG would be performing a surprise pop-up concert. And now today YG said, in true YG fashion, “the show is cancelled”. But they later released a statement saying that they are working on something better.

“We want to let everyone know that we’re in the process of developing ideas so that fans can safely enjoy [Big Bang’s] ten-year anniversary.”

I guess legions of screaming fans potentially causing a stampede in the middle of the street didn’t seem all that appealing in hindsight.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what they come up with!

And finally, Jessica has been sparking waves, good and bad lately. After releasing her first solo album since leaving SM Entertainment, fans were ready for her to begin music promotions. It was later reported that she wouldn’t be doing too much of that. After all, she is running a fashion line simultaneously with making music.

But then it was announced that even more of her appearances were either going to be cut short, or not happening. Like her now cancelled appearance on SBS’s Lee Kuk Ju’s Young Street.

“Jessica’s reps have said, “[Her appearance] was decided upon last Wednesday, and then her scheduled appearance was cancelled on the weekend. We haven’t heard the exact reason for the cancellation. She is very disappointed because she had been preparing to perform live…According to SBS, the radio show had first secured Jo Moon Geun Band as a guest on the show for the episode, and then invited Jessica… SBS states, “After some internal discussion, we decided to invite her to appear on her own next time instead, and asked Jessica’s representatives for their understanding.”

(source: soompi)

Looks like a serious misunderstanding there. Even though this isn’t the first time they seem to have had a misunderstanding with Jessica’s team, i.e., Inkigayo name removal incident, they are doing their best to make amends.

However, she will be appearing on another show, Park So Hyun’s Love Game May 28th.

Monday Kpop Update | VIXX Comeback Concept + EXO’s K-FRIENDS Concert Organizers Upset Fans + Luhan Solo Concert

This post may be a bit later than usual today only because I was super late writing it. Earlier today I had decided not to do a kpop update but then I saw I haven’t really done one in a while and so here it is.

VIXX released a new teaser as they prepare for the comeback. The concept and theme has fans excited as they get ready to experience something new and seriously I can’t wait. This just looks like it’ll be better than their last one and honestly I didn’t think they could top that one but I think they just did with this teaser.

EXO fans are thoroughly upset with concert organizers in Shanghai. It seems that these organizers still have yet to learn their lesson from the last time! This incident seems similar to before. Fans were promised one thing and got something entirely different.

“… The organizers who hosted the concert advertised EXO’s K-FRIENDS Shanghai concert would be held on March 27, for three hours from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (local time). All EXO members were to be present, with a total of 10 songs and other events planned for the concert… However, unlike what was advertised, EXO’s Lay was unable to attend due a schedule conflict with movie filming, and instead of 10 songs, they only performed five. The concert ended before 9 p.m. (local time), igniting a heated response from fans who attended, asking for refunds.”

(source: soompi)

And apparently, it gets worse. Not only did fans rush to buy tickets after hearing of this for the promotions, but ticket prices ended up shooting up to “4000-6000 yuan (approximately $600-$900), with front row seats reaching 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,500)”. That’s around the same amount it would cost to go see Hamilton live. (Yes, I’m a Hamilton fan… a huge one!)

The fans were told to prepare items and gifts like full-length mirrors, clothes hangers, etc. for backstage use and then this happens. But apparently the organizers said, they were tricked too! I won’t post the whole statement they released, you can see it at soompi if you click the link.

“…We advertised the information word for word as we received it. We removed Lay from the performers list after later learning about his inability to attend. We will release more concrete details regarding refunds for tickets at a later time.”

(source: soompi)

At this moment, I don’t know what to believe. I won’t tell you what to believe but I do think it’s more to this story than they’re letting on in that statement.

In lighter news, Luhan performed live for his very first concert in Beijing solo. It’s a pretty big deal to see an idol do something like this especially after everything he’s been through. But congrats to him!
