Wednesday Kpop Update |”Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”, IU’s Acting Draws Criticism + I.O.I Comeback Announced + VIXX Leo, Status Update on Health

Due to my lack of internet access, I’m struggling a little to do this post. But we’re going to get through it as best as possible. I’m working on getting internet back on my desktop. But in the meantime, check out twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for links to the top kpop news stories this week as well as teasers, photos, and a whole bunch of other stuff that doesn’t make it to the blog! (shameless plug)

Alright, so I will just say it, IU can’t catch a break! Critics first said that she was wearing too much make-up for the drama and now they’re saying her acting isn’t exactly credible. Yikes! Well, Kim Young Sub, the director of “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”, has responded to the acting critics and he says in short, it’s because people are already super critical of IU.

“I don’t think that it deserves to be so severely criticized… I know people are prejudiced about IU because she made her start as an idol… I don’t believe it is fair for people to judge her acting based on this excessive prejudice.”

I have to say I agree with him on this. IU gets a lot of flack for a lot of different reasons but at least give her a chance to improve.

A bit of a shocker to me but I was unaware there was any thought that I.O.I would be making a comeback with less members than before but, apparently there were rumors flying around that I missed. Well, Surprise! All 11 members are returning. I.O.I’s agency, YMC Entertainment confirmed the new on the 30th.

On August 30th, the girl group’s acting management agency YMC Entertainment confirmed their comeback which is set for the second week of October. The members have already begun with the tracks’ recording sessions, and it is being further reported that producer Rhymer would be producing two of their songs, raising expectations of the public.

Time to celebrate this bittersweet victory I.O.I fans and supporters alike, the ladies are winding down to their final time together as a group as they will disband next year.

VIXX’s Leo was injured during a recording of MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championship”. He was injured in the face during the futsal portion. There has been large debate over whether or not idols should be participating in activities like this, with a large amount of fans saying no. Why? Because of things like this! I digress. It’s actually a pretty interesting debate.

Back on topic…

However, Jellyfish Entertainment has come out and said, he’ll recover.

“Because there is still swelling in his face, Leo will get sufficient rest and recover stability this whole week, and we confirmed through an expert that there is no problem with recovering from the injury.” – allkpop “Jellyfish Entertainment updates on Leo’s condition”

(source: allkpop)

Looks like he’s going to be alright! Don’t worry so much.

That’s it for this week! Because I’m working from a tablet, I will now direct you all to twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for videos. I’ll have a separate post for them hopefully this weekend!

Thursday Kpop Update | IU Seeking Legal Action Against Netizens for Malicious Rumors + Why Is Yonghwa’s Picture On the Twitter Log-in?

Today is what I’ll call “#questionsthatneedanswers” mixed with a little “#butwhy”? Ok first things first, everyone is all hyped up at the fact that VIXX members are about 6 ft and a little taller. Is this really a huge deal? I guess so if you consider them your “boyfriend in your head”.

And the biggest #butwhy… IU boycotting award shows. Ummm, what? Ok so this started a while back and is continuing on to this year as well.

I guess her latest controversies are bringing this little known fact back to the surface but this all began back in 2014 at MAMA. Something about her performing but not receiving as many awards as she should’ve. I don’t know, long story short, she’s boycotting the awards. This coming right along with her new releases that have been nominated. But even if she wins, she won’t be there to accept the award.

But since we’re talking about her latest releases, IU hasn’t been exactly thrilled with the negativity attention they seem to be getting. It’s like one new controversy after another and she’s had enough. She’s decided to seek legal action against the perpetrators.

“According to an affiliate of IU‘s agency LOEN Entertainment, IU has filed a lawsuit against malicious commenters and netizens on November 17, showing fake photos that netizens have used to spread false rumors about her.”

(source: soompi)

I’m really curious to see how this will turn out.

And “#questionsthatneedanswers”. Why has Yonghwa’s picture been used as twitter’s log in for like… ever?

Twitter said:

“The pictures used on the log-in page change randomly. We decided to use this picture of Jung Yonghwa because he’s wearing a traditional Korean hanbok and it fits very well with Korea’s image. There are a lot of K-Pop fans on Twitter, and from all the K-Pop artists’ accounts that we’ve seen, this photo represents Korea the best. This picture can be seen on our website worldwide, not just in Korea.”

Satisfied with that answer? After hearing this, netizens all over who have been asking the burning question decided… this was good enough.

I guess now we know. #questionanswered

Weekend Kpop Update | Lee Tae Im On SNL + IU Talks about “Zezé” + “Twenty-Three” MV Director Speaks Out About New Video + 9Muses Comeback

Over the weekend, it seems that a lot happened, way more than I expected. Uhm Tae Woon and little Uhm Ji Ohn are leaving “The Return of Superman” and filmed their last episode. The family has decided to focus on their main careers now. We cried with you Tae Woon. And then of course, netizens began spreading some weird rumor that Jessi assaulted her manager. It wasn’t true. I don’t even know who would’ve believed that honestly. She talks tough but she’s really not that type. At least, I don’t think she is. She never gave off the vibe. YMC Entertainment even released a statement saying it’s pretty ridiculous and there’s no proof. And then of course, there’s the huge rumor about rookie vote manipulation for the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

But, did you see this yet?

Yea I know, it was pretty awesome right? And since we’re talking about music videos, the director of IU’s “Twenty-Three” music video has spoken out about the rumors surrounding it. A lot of netizens believed that it was too suggestive and with childish themes, it almost seemed like “pedophilia”. How did he respond?

“When I heard her lyrics, I felt the same way as when I read ‘Alice in Wonderland’ as a child. We started with the image of the Cheshire Cat, who asks you questions and never answers. We wanted to show an IU that she had never shown before…Netizens had questioned the meaning behind the scene in the music video where IU sings, “I want to be a child forever” and pours a formula bottle over a doll’s head… “We wanted to express the contradictory content of the lyrics in an organic way… ‘I want to be a child forever’ properly, and we replaced the water with a formula bottle instead.”

(source: soompi)

That’s only an excerpt but you can see the rest of that article if you click on the link. I do think this whole thing is being taken out of context only because everyone is still upset about her song, “Zezé”. However, she has finally spoken up about that issue in a Facebook post saying,

“I have recently become aware of all the opinions surrounding my song lyrics and it took a while before I mustered up the courage to post this… Sorry for taking so long. I deeply apologize for those who were hurt by my lyrics.”

(source: kpopstarz

She then goes on to explain that she actually loved “My Orange Tree” and she didn’t write the lyrics. However, the lyricist did speak out about the song. Yoon Jong Shin, who wrote the rendition of “Zezé“, says that he actually enjoys reading the different interpretations people come up with. He then said, that it wasn’t a “misinterpretation” or “mistranslation”, it was “simply the freedom of imagination” and he thanks everyone for their interpretation.

In other controversial news, Lee Tae Im was the host on SNL Korea. She took the opportunity to first and foremost, apologize for the incident between herself and Yewon. There was a skit where she parodied the “cursing incident” that took place and after it was over she took the time face the audience and say,

“It was 100 percent my fault. I want to pass on my deepest regrets to Yewon, who is probably still negatively affected by the scandal”

(source: soompi)

I won’t say it’s 100% her fault, but I will say both sides could’ve handled it better before and after. I’m just glad it’s over now.

Let’s move on.

9Muses have announced their official comeback! They’ve released teasers for their comeback on twitter. If you haven’t seen them yet, check them out below!

Thursday Kpop Update | Jay Park Allegedly Dissing Jyp + IU’s Interpretation of “Zezé”, Publishing Company Responds + Netizens Express Anger After Tablo Announces He’s Leaving “Tablo’s Dreaming Radio”

I took a break from kpop news to talk about other things that I love like food and art. I think I’ll do that every Wednesday. However, in my absence, it seems the mood of the kpop world changed within 24 hours!! First, it was really good to hear that Girls Generation’s Seohyun was cast in a new Chinese film, “So I Married an Anti-Fan.” Congratulations to her on her new debut into the realm of acting!

However, things aren’t all happy in the world of kpop today.

There’s news of netizens calling out an alleged idol who apparently used to be bully. One user talked about it and now others are calling for them to reveal the person before they get famous and fans start to protect her. Yikes. And then of course, Dongho got married. But now he is calling for netizens to stop attacking his marriage! And he wants the reporters to stop too. He claims that ever since it was announced he was getting married, reporters reached out to him to write articles about it but he’s worried about what they’ll say. He doesn’t want or need anymore slander.

And speaking of slander… did you guys hear about Jay Park potentially dissing JYP? Apparently, fans have begun speculating about his new song on his album “Worldwide”. The lyrics seem to insinuate to them that it could be about JYP.

“My old teacher is jealous now that we’ll become same same. You’re a TV personality that sells fans. I continue forward even if you block me. Woah. XX I was about to be asked to a music festival. Yeah. But the old man doesn’t act his age. Childish childish. I’ve been free for five years. I’m at this level even if you block me. I’m doing fine. I don’t bother with you.”

(source: soompi)

I don’t personally know if it’s about him and his agency released a statement saying that Jay Park writes his own lyrics and so only he knows who he is talking about. So until he just outright says, “yes it’s about JYP” or “Nah, I’m talking about someone else”, we’ll never really know.

It’s really all just speculation at this point. However, this is a good marketing tool if he was trying to draw more attention to his album.

But since we’re talking about drawing attention to an album, IU has become another offender.

Apparently, on her new album “CHAT-SHIRE”, she has a song “Zezé”. I’m sure by now you’ve probably heard that the lyrics describe Zezé as being “cunning” and not as innocent as he may seem. Well, not only did fans take issue with the song but now Dongnyok Publishing Company, which published “My Sweet Orange Tree” has spoken out as well. They began their statement explaining that Zezé is “not that kind of child” and also quote the offending lyrics.

Here’s an excerpt of their official statement but click the link to see it in full.

“…Zeze is a five-year-old child who gets abused by his family and is full of hurt. So many readers shed tears at Zeze’s words, ‘Why must children grow up?’ However, Zeze is cunning in the song made from the point of [the tree]? ‘My Sweet Orange Tree’ is also an autobiographical novel of the writer. It is also a book that is meant to console the many Zezes who could even now be getting hurt. The writer had an intention [to console other Zezes] yet you assess the work like this…”

(source: allkpop)

They continue on by saying that she’s allowed to interpret as she wishes in regards to freedom of expression, however, her choice of expression and interpretation was disappointing and upsetting to them. And I can understand that 1000%. It is unnerving and it’s an upsetting image that she’s drawn with those lyrics. I don’t personally think she meant for it to take on the life that it has but it would be nice if she were to say something on her interpretation.

IU is staying silent but I do hope she plans on addressing it soon.

And last but not least, Tablo is receiving hate from netz. (again.)

But this time, it’s because he’s leaving a radio show. That’s right! They’re upset with him for leaving his radio show.

On November 3, during MBC FM4U’s “Tablo’s Dreaming Radio,” the male rapper announced he will be leaving the show. “I was happy while leading ‘Dreaming Radio’ for the past two years. November 15 will be my last day… I am sorry I was absent for many days thanks to the concerts and national tour supported by all this unexpected love,” he says. “Though I’m not sure when I’ll be back, I’ll be sure to pay back all your love with good music.”

(source: soompi)

He has a great reason for leaving, he’s working on his music. But apparently, fans were disappointed and expressed their emotions by bringing up things that had absolutely nothing to do with him leaving. All his past controversies they decided to bring back up into the spotlight.

Seriously…

Of course it wasn’t everyone. Others did wish him well and hope that he does in fact decide to return.

That’s enough internet for one day.
