A lot happened today. For those wondering, Yewon will not be participating on SNL Korea with Lee Tae Im. Raise your hands if you’re surprised? (Crickets.) Word got around that the two were going to appear on SNL and it was looking like a chance at public reconciliation for the viewers at home, but Yewon’s agency at the last second decided, maybe not a good idea. They released a statement saying that “after careful consideration, [Yewon] will not be appearing” on the show. Honestly, I’m not surprised. I’m actually more surprised that this was even considered as an option. That just screams, uncomfortable!
Congratulations ONCE! For those of you who haven’t heard and just so happened to be a fan of TWICE, you now have a fanclub name, “ONCE”!
Super cute right? They explained through their instagram account that, ONCE and TWICE just go together! So if you love them ONCE then they’ll return the love to you TWICE! So cute! And of course YG had to join in the fray and release another “WHO’s NEXT” teaser. I’ll put it to you like this, if it’s not WINNER, there’s going to be a lot of upset fans. The mysterious release is on November 21st so get ready!
And since we’re talking about new releases, teasers and promos with introductions. RANIA has announced a new official member and I have to say I’m super excited about this one! The new member is Alexandra and she’s Black-American! Woot!!!
Alexandra, age 21, is a rapper hailing from the U.S. Her father is black and her mother is white. She was born in Kansas and has lived in New York and Texas. She was part of the American record label Def Jam (housing Kanye West, Ludacris, and Justin Beiber, among others currently) starting from when she was 15 years old. Alexandra was preparing to debut with the help of her manager Scott (who formerly managed Rihanna and currently manages Bruno Mars, according to DR Music), when she came to know RANIA and signed on to become an official member.
Did I mention she raps? I’m totally a new fan of RANIA. Seriously I am. It’s amazing to see this happen. I never thought I’d see this day. I’m just… I’ma fan!
But unfortunately, the same good energy can’t be said for IU and it looks like a lot of “fans” have begun that “awesome” investigative work on one of her latest songs. The song in question is a bonus track on her mini-album “CHAT-SHIRE”. Apparently, the song has portions of it that sound exactly like “Gimme More” by Britney Spears.
Word got back to LOEN Entertainment and they released this statement on IU’s official Facebook account. I’l post an excerpt but click the link to koreaboo to see the full translation.
“Hello, this is IU’s agency LOEN. We would like to make an official response to the issue at hand with regards to the bonus track ‘Twenty-Three’ in IU’s mini-album [CHAT-SHIRE]. Last weekend after inquiring the producers about the issue at hand, we found that the producer used a voice sample that was in his possession through a previous purchase during the mixing stage… it is unclear how the producer came to be in possession of the sample, and are currently checking how this voice sample came about after contacting Britney Spears’s agency. We will attempt to clear this issue as soon as possible…”
Fans have already taken to social media to express their displeasure at the entire situation, claiming that this isn’t the first time IU has been caught in a plagiarism scandal. Many wondering if she’s even a real kpop idol. (Ouch!) I will say in her defense, it’s not like she wrote and produced the song by herself. And honestly, “Gimme More” is such an old song, I doubt many people outside of the U.S. would remember it. Unless you’re a fan of Britney Spears in which case, my apologies.
Hopefully this will be settled soon and we can all move on.
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for! VIXX comeback teaser!
B.A.P also has been releasing individual teasers leading up to that official release date! I’ll post them in the order they were released.
