Weekend Kpop Update | I.O.I Yoojung Parody of “Very Good”, Zico Responds + “Goblin” Delay, Creators Statement + Gary and Gil Ready to Split?

So, usually the netisphere is buzzing with different things that I couldn’t begin to predict happening, but it’s been unusually quiet. Or maybe, I just haven’t been paying attention. Either way, it’s been a lot of good news!

Suga has returned to BTS following an injury. He was noticeably absent from some promotions and the end of the year performance but have no fear, he has returned and is ready for their comeback in the future!

I.O.I’s Yoojung is also having a good and interesting week! Her parody of Zico’s “Very Good” was extremely well received by the fans but also by Zico himself. After the show aired, he responded to it saying simply,

I was watching and I was surprised to see my own stage parody. Yoojung copied me better than myself. She managed to be cute at the same time, so I enjoyed watching it.”

If you’re a fan of the show “Goblin”, you may have been wondering what the hold up was! There was this amazing moment and a cliffhanger and everyone was waiting to see what was going to happen next, with three episodes left annnnnnnnnnnnnnddd… the next episode cancelled and replaced by a special episode, “All Days Were Good”.

So what happened????

The producers say… they wanted the graphics to look right. While debunking all the popular rumors and wide-spread speculations, they gave a really valid reason.

“..While is it true we had a hectic filming schedule; when we reached the middle episodes, we didn’t have any problems filming the rest… The delay is partly due to our PD’s ambitious goals. The last 3 episodes are going to be full of bright colors, as they will be focusing on a lot of the magical and fantastical aspects of the storyline. Thus, we are planning on using a lot of computer graphics, which requires a little more time. We don’t want the computer graphics to look tacky, so we’re focusing entirely on improving the visuals so that it can live up to the name of being a fantasy drama.”

Honestly, I think that’s a better way to end a show. I’d much rather it be a late airing and look good then to be thrown together and trash. Sooooooooooooo many good dramas have gone that route and it’s always super disappointing and upsetting.

Quality over quantity any day!

It’s being reported that the Leessang company is about to split up due to Gary and Gil wanting to pursue solo career paths. They’ve already started their own solo labels, Magic Mansion and Yangbans Nation, but is this really happening? Will Leessang break up too?

Leessang Company, owned by Leessang’s Gil and Gary, are currently in the process of closing their business, and have already enlisted their building up for sale. January 13, according to an insider in the industry, Leessang Company’s employees have not been working since last year, and the company’s building is currently on the market priced at 9 billion won since January 11.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens but honestly, this is super upsetting.

Wednesday Kpop Update |”Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”, IU’s Acting Draws Criticism + I.O.I Comeback Announced + VIXX Leo, Status Update on Health

Due to my lack of internet access, I’m struggling a little to do this post. But we’re going to get through it as best as possible. I’m working on getting internet back on my desktop. But in the meantime, check out twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for links to the top kpop news stories this week as well as teasers, photos, and a whole bunch of other stuff that doesn’t make it to the blog! (shameless plug)

Alright, so I will just say it, IU can’t catch a break! Critics first said that she was wearing too much make-up for the drama and now they’re saying her acting isn’t exactly credible. Yikes! Well, Kim Young Sub, the director of “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”, has responded to the acting critics and he says in short, it’s because people are already super critical of IU.

“I don’t think that it deserves to be so severely criticized… I know people are prejudiced about IU because she made her start as an idol… I don’t believe it is fair for people to judge her acting based on this excessive prejudice.”

I have to say I agree with him on this. IU gets a lot of flack for a lot of different reasons but at least give her a chance to improve.

A bit of a shocker to me but I was unaware there was any thought that I.O.I would be making a comeback with less members than before but, apparently there were rumors flying around that I missed. Well, Surprise! All 11 members are returning. I.O.I’s agency, YMC Entertainment confirmed the new on the 30th.

On August 30th, the girl group’s acting management agency YMC Entertainment confirmed their comeback which is set for the second week of October. The members have already begun with the tracks’ recording sessions, and it is being further reported that producer Rhymer would be producing two of their songs, raising expectations of the public.

Time to celebrate this bittersweet victory I.O.I fans and supporters alike, the ladies are winding down to their final time together as a group as they will disband next year.

VIXX’s Leo was injured during a recording of MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championship”. He was injured in the face during the futsal portion. There has been large debate over whether or not idols should be participating in activities like this, with a large amount of fans saying no. Why? Because of things like this! I digress. It’s actually a pretty interesting debate.

Back on topic…

However, Jellyfish Entertainment has come out and said, he’ll recover.

“Because there is still swelling in his face, Leo will get sufficient rest and recover stability this whole week, and we confirmed through an expert that there is no problem with recovering from the injury.” – allkpop “Jellyfish Entertainment updates on Leo’s condition”

(source: allkpop)

Looks like he’s going to be alright! Don’t worry so much.

That’s it for this week! Because I’m working from a tablet, I will now direct you all to twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for videos. I’ll have a separate post for them hopefully this weekend!

Wednesday Kpop Update | JYP Talks Park Ji-Min, Comeback + YMC and I.O.I: Sexy Concept Misunderstanding, Says Agency + VIXX “Fantasy” Teaser Comeback + New Music Videos

There is a lot to talk about today in the world of kpop. With the rumors of dating and new actors on the horizon, sometimes it is just so good to hear some kpop news that we’ve been waiting on.

To for example, 4Minute, everyone has been waiting patiently to see what was going to happen with the rest of the members. Afterall, we all knew that HyunA was going to make a solo comeback, but what about everyone else? Well, the news is out and it’s official, Jiyoon is prepping for her solo debut! She recently signed with a new agency, JS E&M, and they’ve put together a team to build her new image and new solo music. Jiyoon’s solo comeback date is scheduled for October.

BLACKPINK, YG’s new girl group, made their official debut this week and I have to agree with everyone else when I say this, they are really good! The ladies gave their first interview after debuting saying that they were “nervous” and working hard on creating their own signature color. Some fans have been drawing comparisons to previous YG groups like 2NE1 and even BIGBANG, but this is what they have to say.

YG’s Yang Hyun Suk shared his thoughts about BLACKPINK and 2NE1. “We didn’t try too hard to create a difference between BLACKPINK and 2NE1. It was the same when we created 2NE1. YG has its own unique sound so we focused on making the music sound the most like us,” he explained… He continued to say, “There is no leader. They have been friends for so long that having a leader is impossible. All four members can be leaders.”

(source: soompi)

As a fan of 2NE1 I have to say, while I watched their debut music videos, I could draw some similarities but overall, they are truly their own group with the classic YG sound. I loved watching them and can’t wait to hear the debut single album, “SQUARE ONE” which was released on the 8th!

And since we’re talking about comeback news, one of my all-time favorite solo artists Park Ji-Min is about to make her own solo comeback! After releasing the single “Hopeless Love”, she disappeared for a while. She did a few songs with 15& but we weren’t given any new official solo music. Now, JYP says, that’s about to change very soon.

On August 10, JYP Entertainment announced, “Park Ji Min is planning to make a comeback mid-August with a new song. She’s in the final stages of preparation.”

(source: allkpop)

This is great news! I can’t wait to hear her new music!

When it was announced that I.O.I’s comeback was going to be different than before, many people began to speculate what they could possibly be planning. And then teasers began to slip and fans went crazy! The net-o-sphere blew up with comments that the ladies were gonna go with a “sexy” concept. Even I fell for it…

And then YMC said… “Umm what?”

“This unit’s concept is not ‘sexy,’” a source from the agency says. “We didn’t emphasize sexiness at all, so we don’t know why we’re receiving this kind of response… Rather than sexiness, we wanted to emphasize the charisma [the girls] can display on stage and their girl crush charm,” the source continues. “This will definitely be a performance that differs from the previous ‘unique’ concept [for ‘Dream Girls].”

(source: soompi)

After listening to the new song, “Whatta Man” and watching the video I realized, it wasn’t meant to be sexy at all. I actually got the look they were going for before I read this and I have to say, I like their concept better than the rumors. The song samples the 90’s R&B song “Whatta Man” by En Vogue/Salt-N-Pepa. And though I remember when the original came out, (even though I was a little kid I do remember the song), I did like their take on it and I like the concept they chose to go with it.

And then there was VIXX…

We have been waiting tirelessly for a VIXX comeback. Or at least I have… and the teaser photos and announcements were just making me anxious. And then, this happened.

The video has been released on Naver but some kind soul decided to upload it to YouTube. Because for some reason, no matter how hard I tried to share it from Naver here it just wouldn’t work. However, I don’t know how long it’ll be up there but for the time being, you can watch it here.

I’m excited and can not wait for the new music!

That’s all for the Wednesday Kpop Update. And now for some new music!

Weekend Kpop Update | Is Roy Kim the “Dark Knight” on Masked King? + I.O.I vs Netz, Accused of Rigging Heart Count on V App + Clara Returning to TV

This weekend was filled with a lot of “interesting” news. miss A’s Fei is making a solo debut with a 19+ video, new music releases and comebacks from some of our favorite artists and comeback announcements.

But no announcement more “shocking” that a slip of the tongue by a music site saying that the “Dark Knight” on Masked King is Roy Kim. Or was it a shock?

MBC has already come out and denied the claims releasing a statement saying, “(allkpop)”

But the fans already know the truth, this wasn’t a surprise. And not surprisingly, they think MBC is trying to deflect.

See for yourselves!

Strange things happen fans get a bit obsessive. The latest target is none other than I.O.I on the V app.

Now personally, I don’t know if this was a huge deal made by fans or by writers on media websites but I do know it’s out there and needs to be settled. Here’s the story, I.O.I set the record for most hearts on a video on the v app. However, the heart count, (200 million) wasn’t matching the video count (9,000).

So of course the netz went to work investigating.

“While it’s certainly possible that IOI fans might have given more hearts to the girls, others noticed something else strange. At 2:26 AM, the video had 195,953,691 hearts. Eleven minutes later at 2:37 AM, the heart count had jumped to 200,065,322, meaning that in the span of 11 minutes, the heart count had jumped by 4 million even though there were only 9,000~ viewers. This means they went up by 6,600~ hearts per second, which seems highly improbable.”

(source: allkpop)

I am inclined to agree with commenters on this one. It is indeed very possible for this to happen without any sort of “rigging” or “conspiracy”. Happens frequently on YouTube.

Nothing to see here.

And finally, Clara has returned to tv. After spending time off, about a year, since the massive scandal involving a certain CEO who just so happened to be over her agency at the time, she has finally returned to the light to appear on the show “Unnies Who Know Some Style”.

When asked about her choice, she said:

“Because this is my comeback after a year-long break, I want to become more approachable to the general public. And I’ve always been interested in beauty, which is why I chose this program.”

(source: soompi)

“Unnies Who Know Some Style” is a show about fashion and beauty. It incorporates all elements of fashion which includes design. It seems like a good way to get her back into the world of television before resuming her career. She said in part that she does want to get into acting again as well.

Wishing her all the best! I’ll be watching.
