Wednesday Music Update | Star Empire New Girl Group with Chae Eun and Hyeri + AOA “Good Luck” MV Edited? + Jessica Says She Didn’t Leave SNSD for Money Despite Rumors + New Music (Videos)

This week’s kpop news has been a mixture of good and exciting news and even kinda bad news.

Starting with Sulli… I know I know, eye rolls right? Apparently, the singer’s instagram account has been deleted. Even though many people are excited about this, it is a bit concerning. She is known for her “out there” posts and selcas and now it’s all gone. Many are beginning to speculate that it could be a hack. It’d be a shame if all the rumors and criticism drove her to delete her own personal account.
OH MY GIRL has announced that they will be making a comeback a lot sooner than you think. How soon? Try May 26th soon! The repackaged album will be titled “Windy Day” and it’ll be released at midnight. (Well that was sudden…) Fiestar is also getting ready for a comeback that’s literally happening now KST. The teaser photo was released to get all the fans ready for their new upcoming single “Apple Pie” which will be released May 31st at midnight. CLC and EXID are both throwing their hats into the comeback ring as they prepare for their June season. This is looking like a pretty exciting summer!

SNSD’s Tiffany will be making waves as she announced that she will be holding her first solo concert, “Weekend – Tiffany” which will run, Jun 10th-12th at SMTOWN Coex Atrium. The announcement was made through SM’s “The Agit” concert show

Moving to another agency that’s been stirring up a lot of buzz in the kpop world… Star Empire and their soon-to-be girl group!

Star Empire may seem familiar to you as it is home to trainees Chae Eun and Hyeri, “Produce 101” trainees. Well now it seems that these two are the first confirmed members of the upcoming girl group which will have around five to seven members according to Star Empire.

“According to reports on May 18, Star Empire has decided that the upcoming girl group will have five to seven members. The confirmed members of the girl group so far are Han Hyeri, Shim Chae Eun, and two other Star Empire trainees.”

The group is set to begin promotion as soon as all the members have been confirmed.

AOA’s “Good Luck” music video has been facing some heavy speculation after the video was removed shortly after being posted before being re-ploaded with corrections. Product placement was blurred out, specifically the Toyota and Honda logos. Many fans began saying that this problem due to the controversy surrounding the members inability to identify An Jung Geun, who fought for Korean independence for Japanese colonial rule.

But FNC Entertainment says, “No, that’s not the reason at all!”

“Excluding the vehicles, we admit that other products in the music video were included as product placement. The vehicles, however, were merely borrowed due to the local situation and we had no intention to show [the brand]… We hope that there will be no misunderstandings regarding the vehicles and brand product placement.”

Well there you have it folks! Historical controversy crisis averted!

And finally, Jessica Jung!

Jessica recently made a “not so surprise” comeback and released two music videos “Fly” and “Love Me The Same” from her new EP “With Love, J”. But even with all the good news surrounding her latest releases and fashion line, people are starting to trudge up new and old rumors. One of which, Jessica personally addressed in an interview Sports Chosun.

“This is business. You have to invest and reinvest into it and grow it gradually in order to spread the brand. That’s why you cannot earn money right away. I really have not made any money so far.”

(source: allkpop)

This, of course, comes after the news that her new song “Fly” was banned from KBS due to another incident of product placement. I’m sure this won’t make the rumors go away but at least we’ve heard her side of the story.

Thursday Kpop Update | Former SM and YG Trainees Form New Group Under Cube? + FNC Talks about Group NEOZ + SNSD’s Tiffany Possible Solo Hint

I will not lie to you guys… I’m extremely exhausted today. However, I’m going to do my best to get this post out tonight.

If you’ve been paying attention to Cube Entertainment’s artist development team’s instagram, Cube Tree, you may have noticed a couple of familiar faces in a recent post.

Former trainees from SM,  Jino and YG’s Yang Hong Suk.

Cube Entertainment is in the process of creating a 10 member male group and the working title of the group is “Pentagon”. It’s alleged that these two may be finally making a debut in this group.

Speaking of male groups, FNC Entertainment drew up a lot of buzz a couple of months ago when they decided to stealthily release all these teasers of their new group. This group is a bit different since it is a male dance group and according to CEO Han Sung Ho, NEOZ will be completely different than what you’re used to.

“NEOZ is the first male dance team from our company. You will be able to see their differences from other groups through their visuals and concept,” CEO Han Sung Ho said. “You will be able to see with your own eyes through their upcoming performance. We thought that it would be better to show their uniqueness in not only their music but in the drama as well, which is why we decided to add them into the web drama.”

(source: soompi)

I’m actually interested to see how this new “NEO theme” (as I call it) will look when it’s officially packaged and released. I was hooked on the music from NCT so this should be just as intriguing.

And of course, what’s life without new music. Is Tiffany getting ready to go solo? She released a photo on her instagram account in the studio with some producers, who look a bit familiar… and captioned it, “writing”?

If this is her way of telling us there will be solo music, I’m so ready!

Monday Kpop Update | BTS’ JK Cover of Justin Bieber’s “Nothing Like Us” + Ladies Code Official Comeback + Seolhyun CF “Body Double” Speaks Out + AOA is Getting Paid!

Ok so a lot happened today.

For starters, MBLAQ’s G.O is officially enlisting in the military. It was announced today that on Feb. 18th, G.O will leave quietly to fulfill his military requirement.

WINNER recently was on the SBS radio show, “Park So Hyun’s Love Game”. They talked about relationships and how they feel about their music… and then they said something that sparked my interest. They want to be on Running Man! They said that since they’re all equally athletic and love sport activities, they think they’ll be great for the show. Hopefully Running Man producers think so too!

SHINee’s Taemin released two teaser photos on twitter to get everyone ready and excited for his upcoming solo album. It’s going to be a huge event and he already has a full schedule ready to go!

The official release date is February 23rd!

I don’t know if you follow BTS on soundcloud, you probably do if you’re a huge fan, but for those of you who haven’t been following them, they do a lot of covers on their account. I usually like their versions more than the original song which is why I try to listen to the original first or else I won’t like the original at all. Which brings me to this, JK of BTS released a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Nothing Like Us” and honestly I just want him to release the song as an official cover. It’s just that good!

It’s currently still on repeat…

Ladies’ Code shocked me today with this announcement

That’s right! The trio has returned with a comeback entitled “Myst3ry”. (Get it? Cuz it’s 3 so “Myst-3-ry”)  It’s amazing to see how far they’ve come and I’m so excited for their new music. I imagine they’ve changed their sound a bit as well.

I can’t wait to hear this “Myst3ry”.

Seolhyun got a bit of backlash after a post was released from Seolhyun’s body double with pictures from a CF saying that it wasn’t Seolhyun’s body, it was hers! That’s not uncommon when stunts are done involving celebrities however, the woman said she’s saddened by the whole thing. Saying simply, they used her body in the commercial filming in Thailand.

Well, after the post circulated all over, FNC responded.

Most of the filming included the face and not the entire body so [Seolhyun] filmed the scenes herself. The body double was only limited to the action scenes. When you look at the CF, there was around one second of an underwater scene which needed wires. That’s about all that the body double did.”

(source: allkpop)

I’m not 100% sure what she expects to come of this but this is standard practice when using a double. Typically, they edit it so that nobody ever knows the celebrity wasn’t the one who did the stunts. It’s supposed to look seamless. I guess she wanted some acknowledgement for her part? I’m a bit confused by this situation.

And finally, AOA has done what very very few girl groups manage to do. They have officially broken even with FNC Entertainment which means, the ladies of AOA shall be getting paid! (insert applause!)

An FNC representative explained, “It is true that AOA members recently have started to receive an income due to their successful promotions last year. We cannot say how much that income was, however. From now on, the members will continue to get paid for their activities.”

(source: soompi)

This is a huge deal! Especially since it’s only been 3 years since their debut! For those of you who don’t understand this process, I’ll explain.

When groups are put together and go through training leading to their debut, (including promotions, fan signings, bookings, appearances, studio time, etc.), their agency will invest all the money. All they pretty much have to do is show up and perform well. However, they don’t exactly get a paycheck. They get a stipend in most cases. Once they begin making money from their debut and subsequent comeback releases, the revenue pays back the agency. Once they have officially paid back their agency, they can then start getting paid.

That’s pretty much the music business universally. It’s also one of the ways a lot of popular artists go bankrupt. But that’s another post for a completely different day.

Congrats AOA! Enjoy your paychecks!

Weekend Kpop Update | Yoon Eun Hye Apologizes for Plagiarism Scandal + FNC Entertainment Warns of Fake Yoo Jae Suk + Yoonmirae “This Love” (video)

This weekend was a bit of a rollercoaster.

EXO-L’s played “I-Spy” with Music Bank. They “spot with their little eye” that Lay was missing from the comeback stage previews. Umm what?

Ok maybe I’m missing something here but, where’s Lay? No official word yet on the oversight but I’m sure they’ll probably add him later when nobody’s watching.

After months of waiting, Yoon Eun Hye finally released an apology. She apologized while greeting reporters at an opening for a fashion line.

“Thank you for coming and I apologize for causing a controversy. I will continue to work hard and not disappoint.”

(source: koreaboo)

I have to say, honestly, I don’t know why she did it. I thought she already addressed the matter and that it was pretty much done and over with. Why she’s apologizing now I don’t know. I guess she was ready to clear the air and move on. However, netz weren’t having it and said her apology was “too little too late”.

At least she apologized…

FNC Entertainment does not want these imposters getting comfortable creating fake accounts, specifically of Yoo Jae Suk. Yoo Jae Suk has become the latest victim to online forgery as there is someone (or a group) posing as him on social media platforms. Fans were super excited to see the MC online and buzz spread quickly.

FNC wants everyone to know, it’s not our beloved MC.

“Representing Yoo Jae Suk, FNC Entertainment warned against the fake account through its official Facebook page on December 13. The agency made clear that Yoo Jae Suk does not manage a Facebook account on his own and his news are officially relayed through FNC Entertainment’s Facebook account — all other accounts are fake.”

(source: soompi)

Well looks like there’s no point in following that account at all.

And of course my favorite news of the day, Yoonmirae is back with a new ballad, “This Love”.

If you haven’t heard it, check it out below!
