Wednesday Kpop Update | EXO First Sub-Unit + YG Teasing for October Release, “Who’s Next? + Sehun Ruffles Feathers with SNS Update

Alright so the world of kpop is getting increasingly busy as the holiday season rolls around. New comeback announcement and of course a lot of surprises! Beginning with EXO!

For the first time, EXO is getting ready to debut their very own sub-unit! That’s right ladies and gents! This is happening! And who will be the members? None other than the trio, Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. This is not coming as a huge surprise to fans. They were given a sample of what this sub-unit would look like during the EXO concert with the mini-series videos, “Reservoir Idols”.

This is definitely going to be exciting!

YG knows how to get the conversation going with many people speculating who this could potentially be already! We only have two more days to find out! I have a few theories of my own that I’ll keep to myself. For now, we know for a fact it’s not BIGBANG! BIGBANG’s comeback is scheduled for December so who else could it be?

And finally, with all the good news surrounding EXO right now, of course one thing had to upset people. It’s safe to say that it wasn’t meant with bad intentions but fans are up in arms anyway.

EXO’s Sehun posted a picture to instagram and commented, “Nice weather” with a sun emoji. It wasn’t long before fans saw this and immediately flagged him for being insensitive to the typhoon currently affecting Busan, Ulsan, and Jeju Islands.

He later deleted the post and said:

“The weather over here was nice, so I just posted it. I knew what was happening after I saw the news. I guess the southland is still getting hit with a serious typhoon. I hope there won’t be a lot of damages.”

Let’s try to be more understanding of each other! It’s been so peaceful lately!

Weekend Kpop Update | China to Begin Restricting Kpop Activities + EXO Filming Repackaged Comeback + SHINee Making a Comeback, Rumor Mill

This post a long time coming! It’s been a while right? I deliberated very hard over doing another one of these and decided, why not?

Let’s start with the news of I.O.I before we move to the news coming from China. I.O.I is getting ready to make a comeback in a way you haven’t seen them before. That’s right, no more of the cutesy image, the ladies are coming back with a “sexier” concept. If you follow their Mnet show, “LANCableFriend I.O.I”, you may have seen a hint of this new concept with their dances and imagery.

Hmmm… I wonder how this will turn out. I doubt very strongly it’ll be on the 19+ level, it’s likely to probably be more chic than sexy.

China has their own reasoning for why they are preparing to limit kpop activity in the country and it has everything to do with the potential for war. Hopefully you’ve been following this story on the news but if you haven’t, here’s a short version.

“…On July 7, 2016, South Korea and the United States officially confirmed their decision to deploy the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system on South Korean soil. This is a joint response to North Korea’s continual testing of new medium- and long-range ballistic missiles, both land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and to its belligerent rhetoric, including the declared intention to attack U.S. military bases in the Pacific and also the continental United States… At the Shangri-La Dialogue last May, the principal diplomatic forum for Asia-Pacific security issues, China already registered a strong protest against the possibility of THAAD deployment, and South Korea and the United States expect a robust reaction to last week’s confirmation. China’s concerns are: THAAD could use its X-band radar to defeat China’s Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) strategy, which relies on a ballistic missile attack upon U.S. forward bases in East Asia; the THAAD decision implies that South Korea may join the U.S.-led Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system; and THAAD represents a serious reduction in the effectiveness of the buffer zone between U.S. and Chinese forces in place since the end of the Korean War in 1953…”

Did you catch all that?

Now, this is a serious issue especially with the turmoil going on between the U.S. and North Korea. So what does this have to do with kpop? Well apparently, as part of China’s way of opposing the decision to deploy THAAD, they want to put restraints on the imagery coming from South Korea.

“According to a statement by China’s General Office of Television Broadcasting, there will be prohibitive measures against K-Pop artists’ activities in China. This will severely limit the scope of K-pop artists’ promotions and endorsements as they will be prohibited to hold activities and concerts with more than 10,000 people in attendance.”

This could ultimately affect the sales of concert tickets and merchandise for a lot of kpop artists and agencies.

Moving on to lighter news…

EXO is preparing for their repackaged comeback by filming new music videos! But don’t expect it anytime soon, the guys are still hard at work.

“A report by OSEN states that while filming is not yet complete, the members have officially begun comeback preparations for August. SM Entertainment previously responded to news of an August comeback by EXO, saying that they are planning for it, though it has yet to be made official.”

(source: soompi)

My guess is, we could see this comeback as early as September maybe? Don’t quote me on that.

And finally, the news all SHINee fans have been waiting for… they are making a long-awaited comeback! (Who said Taemin gets to have all the fun?) Although, this is all still just as a rumor and hasn’t been officially confirmed. But it is being said that they could be making a comeback sometime this year. No word on when.

I have my doubts on this one. I’m not saying it’s impossible but… they did just finish a concert and they are getting ready for a new one, “SHINee Concert: SHINee World V” on September 4th and 5th at the Olympic Park Stadium. To me, it seems as if it may be a bit much to perform shows and record songs but who knows… maybe SM has something planned we don’t know about yet.

Stay tuned on this one…

Wednesday Kpop Music Update | 9Muses Future Plans After Member Departures + Younha, HA:TFELT, And Cheetah Collab + I.O.I Album Plans + New Music (Yes… EXO)

Ok so there’s a lot that happened in the comeback world… aka EXO is back!! But before we get to that, let’s talk some girl group news.

9Muses is dealing with something that many groups seem to be dealing with early this year and that’s the departure of members. It has been announced that Euaerin and Minha have “graduated from the group”.

So what now?

“Currently we have no plans to add new members to 9MUSES… 9MUSES is currently busy working on a new song that will be released in July. The members are preparing for unit group promotions and specific details concerning it will be decided soon.”

(source: soompi)

I think that’s good. Too many times when members leave, they’re replaced and then people are feeling some kind of disconnect because, “who are these people??” There are too many comparisons being made and I just feel like the only time this is okay to do is when it’s early on in the group’s creation. For example, Red Velvet. They added members and it worked because they were still pretty new. Now everybody is used to the change and can still connect with the group.

9Muses has been around for a while, adding new people will just not mesh well in my opinion. Leave it as it is! Can’t wait for the new album!

Younha, HA:TFELT, And Cheetah are working on a collaboration!!! I’m so excited! This is a collab featuring three of my favorite artists and I have a feeling this is going to be good. And if the teasers are any indication of what this track is gonna sound like, this is gonna be really good!

The song will be released in just one week on June 13th!

I.O.I has finally revealed their album plans! We’ve been waiting for a long time to hear when this album is going to come out and what will it sound like and though we don’t have a definite answer on the sound, we do have some more details on the date.

“According to YMC Entertainment on June 7, I.O.I’s unit group plans to release an album some time between late July to the first week of August… We are trying to pick the songs carefully. The nominees for the album’s title song have been confirmed, but they’re still in the demo stage. We will add lyrics to them and choose the best one that fits with the members’ images.”

(source: soompi)

The majority of the ladies will be participating in this album. DIA’s Jung Chaeyeon and Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina won’t be in that mix apparently. I’m not surprised. They have other groups to promote with and other music to work on with different obligations and in my mind they were doing the show a favor anyway as far as ratings were concerned. I was one of those people that didn’t really understand why they were participating but I digress.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for…

Wednesday Kpop Update | Tiffany Solo Concert Sells Out + DIA Not Performing, 2016 Dream Concert + EXO Comeback Confirmed + New Music Videos

Ok so let me tell you! Today was so busy I had a hard time trying to decide what to talk about here! I couldn’t cover everything that I wanted to sooooo head over to twentythirdstation.tumblr.com for links and kpop updates that weren’t included here!

XIA was recently on a livestream through the Naver app talking about his latest album, “Xignature”. He was asked during the broadcast about his juniors that he actually likes and he gave the loaded answer of the year! He talked about BTOB and how they left a good impression on him but he also mentioned some other familiar names.

“Truthfully, there’s so many idols these days I don’t really know a lot of people personally. I might know their group’s name, but not individual names. If I had to choose, I would say the BEAST and INFINITE members. These days, it’s nice to see that idols really passionate about what they do, and how they can sing and dance really well. But of course, I’m closer to those I interact with and know personally. That’s why I am fond of BEAST and INFINITE.”

I like that answer!

SISTAR released their official comeback teaser and plans today. Pretty exciting way to start off June. This will be the 4th mini-album for SISTAR.

And not to be left out of the comeback celebrations, SONAMOO also officially announced their plans for a comeback through their official website. They released a coded message with their homepage changed to the color green with orbs circling their logo.

“In June of 2016, colorful lights will brighten up one by one along with the Green Moon. Seven different colors will unite into one shining light”

(source: SONAMOO)

Tiffany is making waves since her official solo release. After the release of I Just Wanna Dance, it was announced that she would be performing her first solo concert for a select time period in Korea. Well… the shows sold out!! And now, new shows have been officially added to accommodate the demand.

“…[Tiffany] solo concert will be the sixth in SM’s “The Agit” concert series. Tickets went on sale on May 19 and immediately sold out. Since many fans were unable to procure tickets, more concert dates have been added… Tickets for the additional concerts will go on sale June 7 at 8 p.m. KST through Yes24.”

(source: soompi)

If you’re in the area and want to go, you might want to head over to Yes24 and get your tickets ASAP!

In unfortunate news, DIA is pulling out of 2016 Dream Concert. Interestingly enough, Jung Chae Yeon will still perform… with IOI. Representatives released a statement explaining the decision.

“Jung Chae Yeon will only perform as an IOI member at the ‘Dream Concert’. DIA will not be performing. After a discussion, the members decided not to perform at ‘Dream Concert’, considering the difficulties Jung Chae Yeon will face [in performing with 2 groups].”

(source: allkpop)

So while DIA decides instead to prepare for their comeback, Chae Yeon will perform with IOI. I guess this would be a little easier for her so she doesn’t have to overwork herself. And, IOI is only promoting for a year so might as well enjoy the ride now.

EXO pretty much “broke the internet” with the release of one photo.

And then more followed…

I don’t think anything else needs to be said here except, the official comeback date is June 9th! We are literally days away from this comeback.

I’m so beyond ready for this…
