Wednesday Kpop Update | CUBE Entertainment Releases Statement on Fake SNS Accounts for CLC + Teen Top Announces a Solo and Group Comeback + MAMAMOO Covers Top English Songs

Surprise!!

Fake accounts are a favorite past time for many people on social media. Some are parody accounts of a living person or an inanimate object. And then there are the fake sns accounts that are perpetrating as the real deal. The issue has gotten so bad for particular group kpop group that their label had to step in on their behalf!

What group? CUBE Entertainment’s girl group, CLC.

They released a statement saying:

“…Below are the official url addresses for both CLC and Cube social media accounts.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/cubeclc
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CLC.UnitedCube/

Please note with the exception of the listed links above, all other Twitter and Facebook pages belong to impersonated accounts. Such unauthorized accounts masquerading as official like on Instagram and many others are not organized by CLC or Cube Entertainment…”

(full statement here at allkpop)

I guess it’s probably time to stop now for all those doing it. The account is going to get shut down sooner or later.

Solo artists and group comebacks can be the highlight of any year. And that’s no exception for the latest announcement from Teen Top! Prepare yourselves, Niel’s solo comeback is on the way and so is a group comeback!

And finally, MAMAMOO is one of those groups that can remake a song and have you just completely in love with their version. They have the ability to make any song all their own. But what if there were 7 of these songs? Apparently, MAMAMOO has recorded covers to 7 top charting songs in English. Songs like, John Legend’s “All of You”, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Stooshe’s “Love Me”, and a few others. I won’t post all the videos here, but you can listen to their covers at this link on koreaboo.

Can’t wait to see more! For now, this is all we know.

Get ready for January 2017!!

Rumors have been flying that 2NE1 maybe not officially over but only disbanded and rebranded to start over fresh. The new name? XXI. Now this is ALL speculation and rumors. Nobody knows for sure what XXI is or who will be apart of it but the fact Park Bom liked a speculation photo of it is fueling the rumors.

Keep in mind, Bom has not officially re-signed with YG and CL and Dara have re-signed as solo artists. If there is some type of way that this could happen in the future, I do believe it’ll come as a huge surprise to the fans because YG loves to do huge events. I don’t think they’d spoil it like this.

But it is nice to dream… so I won’t kill the dream. Keep Hope Alive!

I was beyond confused about this story when I first heard it! But then I ran across this interview from koreaboo and I’m here to share what I know and what I learned. I’m going to kinda break this up a bit and I won’t go over everything because a lot of it is back and forth. We’ll stick to the facts and see if we can solve this puzzle together.

Full article here: [★EXCLUSIVE] Here’s what really happened between Taeyeon and Wiz Khalifa at MAMA 2016

So this may be the big elephant in the room… why is Taeyeon beefing with Wiz Khalifa?? Are they really beefing? What happened??

Here are the facts:

  1. Wiz Khalifa collaborated with Taeyeon on the song “See You Again” which was originally sung with Charlie Puth.
  2. Wiz and Taeyeon flew in for MAMA 2016 for a special stage, presenting the collab for the first time to the world.
  3. The stage never happened.

Okay, here is the real problem… what happened to cause this stage to never happen?

I’m going to take this in pieces because this is a long ride so hang on tight.

Wiz’s side:

So we got that part of it.

And then of course came the infamous part where they were told there may have been a translation issue because they were told that not only had she requested a separate stage but that she was going to the hospital. It now being taken to mean that it was meant she was going to the hotel. Regardless of all of this, they figured if she was going to perform that night anyway, at least allow her to perform with Wiz. They were told no.

Taeyeon’s side: [Released Statement]

“I see a lot of people being very curious about the performance yesterday so I’ll explain (I would be curious too). I was getting ready for the rehearsal and saying hi to Wiz Khalifa. I was excited for the performance and getting ready. Then I heard that there was a problem with the music. Due to this reason I was unable to even go through mic checks with him properly and unable to join him on stage.

For a live performance, you need an MR version of the song but they only had the AR ready. I was a bit taken aback since I was supposed to do a live performance, but I wanted to be on stage with him because the important thing was that we had a chance to collaborate…and honestly a chance like this doesn’t come often ^^. So I thought maybe if I sang louder than the AR vocal than I would be able to mask it ㅋㅋㅋ. The producers wanted to do their best and make the best performance possible. So we decided to go ahead with the AR. But then a few hours before the show I heard the news that my part had been cancelled. I guess performing overseas makes a lot of things unpredictable. Even during rehearsals the day before I heard that there was something wrong with the sound system, so I ended up returning to the hotel after waiting without even rehearsing.

I guess a lot of problems coincided. I was so saddened and disappointed that I had to return without being able to perform such a stage. I hope no misunderstandings happen because of this issue. I know there were people excited to see the performance after hearing about it. I promise you that I will return with a better stage next time. I am so grateful for everyone that supported me until the end yesterday.”

The point is, when you’re handling a performance like this with artists who are pretty much performing not only together for the first time but also in a high profile light, there needs to be much much more communication.

There was not enough proper communication between the labels and agencies. There was not enough communication between staff. And there was not enough communication at MAMA. Will they try this again? Honestly I don’t know.

However, it’s important to note that there is no bad blood between the artists.

And now… new music!

Wednesday Kpop Update | DSP Media Teases with “K.A.R.D” + Former 2NE1 Members Release Personal Statements Following Disbandment + New Music Videos

Surprise! I’m back with a full post this time… but I come bearing bad news.

It’s a sad day in the kpop world. But before we talk about the depressing matters, let’s focus on the lighthearted news.

DSP Media is testing the waters and teasing the fans with one tweet.

I don’t know about guys but I’m super ready to find out what this means.

And now for the news currently breaking the internet. It was announced yesterday but it is official today, Go Ara is no longer part of SM Entertainment. Ara’s contract officially expired as of November 30, 2016. She’s now a free agent.

I have to say you guys, I’m completely torn by this. First there was the news of KARA’s disbandment and I was sure all the members would stay and work with SM and now it seems that won’t be happening. After 13 years of being signed to the agency, it seems that her time there has now come to an end.

Wishing her all the best on this new journey!

And the posts that broke my heart more than anything else today… even though it was announced before that 2ne1 is no more. (I almost cried typing that.) The ladies of 2ne1 decided to issue their own statements regarding the disbandment for the Blackjacks all over. It feels like I lost a family member. I followed their journey, loved their music, and really enjoyed watching them perform and now just like that, it’s all over.

Translation:

“Fans~ Around the world.. Hello this is Bom, whom you fans have always loved and protected… Our Blackjacks! You really waited so long for us… It’s regrettable… and I have nothing to say other than sorry… It hurts a lot… but I wanted to write a letter…What I can say right now… is that I did my best… I waited, anticipated, and prepared various things to show our fans… but things in this world don’t seem to happen the way I’d like them to…” “It’s not like we did this halfheartedly for a few years… So how can we erase everything in one fell swoop… T.T??… What to do… T.T Although it’s upsetting… I will strive to never forget our ‘memories,’… All our happy moments and joyful times… T.T Although I’m shedding bitter tears… I will keep them in my heart… When I think about parting ways with Dara, Chaerin, and Minzy, I become speechless… I suddenly can’t breath… I can’t write anymore because it hurts too much… The four of us… “‘Because we had you, we could do anything…’ I won’t forget you… Thank you… T.T””

Many fans have begun to speculate that the disbandment of 2NE1 was in favor of putting full focus on Blackpink. I don’t like that theory only because it creates too much tension towards a group that has done nothing wrong.

However, with all the drama surrounding 2NE1 with Minzy leaving, Park Bom’s issues, and CL’s solo career… it would seem like there may be another reason aside from other groups at YG that would cause this decision. And it is a bit peculiar to me that this would come on the heels of rumors of 2NE1’s new album now being calling a potential “breakup album” that was set to be released and now all recorded material scrapped.

So many theories. So much speculation. I’ll just wait on YG’s statement before giving my opinion. For now, let’s reflect on the legacy and wonderful music that 2NE1 left for the world.

Of course the news isn’t being taken well by fans. Twitter erupted with disbelief and displeasure at the idea that YG would not only allow 2NE1 to disband but also allow Taehyun to leave the agency with hashtags like #JusticeFor2NE1 and #JusticeForTaehyun. For those of you who haven’t heard, on November 25th, YG officially terminated the contract of WINNER’s Nam Taehyun citing Nam’s “mental condition” and inability “to predict the recovery and comeback”.

The remaining members have been prioritizing Nam’s mental condition and wait for his recovery, but as it is something that he has dealt with since he was young, it is hard to predict the recovery and comeback,” said the company. “Although Nam is unable to continue with Winner, both parties will be supporting each others’ music activities. Nam and Winner will remain as colleagues who support each other.”

I understand medical issues and health coming first so maybe this is temporary? Hopefully, when he is well, we will see him make a comeback into the entertainment scene.

I think I’m done depressing you guys for one day.

Wednesday Kpop Update | 2PM’s Chansung, Responds to Song Being “Unfit to Air” + Jessica Upsets International Fans + G-Dragon, Legal Action Being Taken Against Hackers and Defaming Comments

It’s back!! Did you miss the weekly kpop update? I’ve been really busy but I won’t keep you guys waiting any longer so let’s get it!

2PM’s Chansung’s new song “Make Love” has been getting a lot of buzz lately. It was released on 2PM’s new album “Gentleman’s Game”, and even though people like the song, the heads of broadcast networks weren’t a fan. They deemed the song far too sexual and “unfit for broadcast”. On, DJ Kim Shin Young’s radio show “Hope Song at Noon”, Chansung got the opportunity to speak for himself.

“I didn’t know that this was going to become an article topic. Thank you to the reporter who wrote the article… It’s a really good song. I don’t understand what about it is bothering them so much.”

(source: soompi)

Well, there you have it, folks! I don’t think this song will be getting edited for airwaves anytime soon.

Jessica has caused quite a bit of stir in the last couple of years, but perhaps this time, instead of rattling k-netz, she has gotten to the international fans. And honestly, I agree with her.

It all started on instagram…

She was posting pictures, responding to comments and then… everything went left!(Took a turn for the worst)

“…there was one particular comment that grabbed the attention of Korean netizens with Jessica posting, “Learn Korean :P,” answering to requests from international fans. At Jessica’s reply for international fans to “learn Korean,” Koreans have shown satisfaction towards her answer. On the other hand, while some international fans took her comment as a joke, some took it more seriously, leaving comments that it was disrespectful and rude to write such a post towards her fans.”

(source: koreaboo)

I don’t think it’s too much to ask when she jokingly says, “learn Korean” instead of asking her to translate everything from Korean to English because international fans don’t understand. English-speaking celebrities are never asked to do the same. We expect the Beyonce’s, Leonardo di Caprio’s, Liam Hemsworth’s, Taylor Swift’s, etc. of the world to speak English and respond in English and we expect everyone else to just get it or “google it”. So why are we asking Korean celebrities to translate on their own personal sns accounts? It’s a bit unfair and a little rude in my opinion to expect special treatment like that.

But, on the flipside, I guess international fans figure since English is the language of money and power, everyone should speak it. I don’t know. It’s a bit of a stretch to me. But I guess at this point they have one of two options, either learn Korean or use Google translate.

G-Dragon and YG have had enough. With the hackers and the rude, malicious, and often times defaming comments, they’ve decided to take action! They’re not going to take it anymore.

Apparently, G-Dragon’s personal account was hacked recently and this isn’t the first time that it has happened. And now, he’s fed up and so is his agency.

“G-Dragon has been using his private Instagram account in order to share the daily lives of himself and some close friends around him. It is an illegal act to hack and share private accounts of his Instagram users. The person responsible for the hacking has broken the law by changing the settings on his Instagram account from ‘private’ to ‘public.’ Due to this, the account which only was accessed by 150 people was widely shared to the public. Some photos were also altered by Photoshop before being shared widely through the web.”

(source: koreaboo)

I say, good for them! Stand up to bullying.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for… new music!
