Artist of the Week | Lee Hyori

As someone who has been listening to kpop for years (knowingly and unknowingly), I was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too excited about this comeback. Or maybe, I expressed the right amount of excitement. Lee Hyori is one of those artists that I hope will continue to make music for as long as possible. If you’ve never heard of her before today is your introduction!

Most international kpop fans haven’t really heard of her and for the ones who have they know what a legend she is. I even saw on youtube someone say that she invented “idol culture” and I have to say I definitely agree. She’s been in her own kpop group Fin.K.L before making her solo debut. She’s hosted tv shows and was an actress as well before going on hiatus in 2015. She disappeared from social media and television for a while.

And now… she’s back!

I love her new music. I’m such a huge fan of her sound! If you haven’t heard her new songs yet I do truly advise you to check it out below! (And some of her older songs too!)

Artist of the Week | 효연 (Hyoyeon)

It’s been a while since the Artist of the Week was a kpop girl-group artist. I haven’t neglected them I’ve just been listening to so many different types of music that I almost forgot about mainstream artists.

So the spotlight for this week needs no introduction! You all know her for the top selling kpop girl group “Girls’ Generation (SNSD)”! She’s back with a solo comeback and so far she’s done really well on the charts!

If you haven’t heard her solo music before, check it out below!

Wednesday Kpop Update | CUBE Entertainment Releases Statement on Fake SNS Accounts for CLC + Teen Top Announces a Solo and Group Comeback + MAMAMOO Covers Top English Songs

Surprise!!

Fake accounts are a favorite past time for many people on social media. Some are parody accounts of a living person or an inanimate object. And then there are the fake sns accounts that are perpetrating as the real deal. The issue has gotten so bad for particular group kpop group that their label had to step in on their behalf!

What group? CUBE Entertainment’s girl group, CLC.

They released a statement saying:

“…Below are the official url addresses for both CLC and Cube social media accounts.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/cubeclc
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CLC.UnitedCube/

Please note with the exception of the listed links above, all other Twitter and Facebook pages belong to impersonated accounts. Such unauthorized accounts masquerading as official like on Instagram and many others are not organized by CLC or Cube Entertainment…”

(full statement here at allkpop)

I guess it’s probably time to stop now for all those doing it. The account is going to get shut down sooner or later.

Solo artists and group comebacks can be the highlight of any year. And that’s no exception for the latest announcement from Teen Top! Prepare yourselves, Niel’s solo comeback is on the way and so is a group comeback!

And finally, MAMAMOO is one of those groups that can remake a song and have you just completely in love with their version. They have the ability to make any song all their own. But what if there were 7 of these songs? Apparently, MAMAMOO has recorded covers to 7 top charting songs in English. Songs like, John Legend’s “All of You”, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Stooshe’s “Love Me”, and a few others. I won’t post all the videos here, but you can listen to their covers at this link on koreaboo.

Wednesday Kpop Update | CL First, Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart + WINNER Comeback Postponed + The East Light, New Boy Band

This week in kpop has been a bittersweet week for YG. CL has officially made kpop history by becoming the first Korean female solo artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 list! This is a huge deal. This list not only shows number of record sales and proof of how much airplay you can potentially get on radio, but it’s also a popularity contest. Only the popular songs make it to this list and CL, you have officially done it!

The song “Lifted” debuted at #94 on the charts. And even though many people will have a lot to say about that, I will say this, there are millions of songs that won’t even get that high on the charts! Congrats CL! Check out her performance on the late night show, The Late Late Show with James Corden.

In not so great YG news, WINNER’s comeback has been officially postponed indefinitely. I was one of the ones speculating that the “Who’s Next?” teaser was a hint at their potential comeback but now, I’m not so sure. Apparently, Taehyun is not doing well at all and hasn’t been for quite some time.

“On October 12th, YG Entertainment confirmed the delay in WINNER’s anticipated return as they updated fans about Taehyun’s condition. According to the agency, they were aware of his mental health condition during his trainee days. However, the singer and actor was unable to cope these last few months.”

It seems the stress of touring domestically and internationally has begun to take a toll on Taehyun. So while he recovers, WINNER will be put to the side for now.

I truly hope he gets better soon!

And finally…  Have you heard of The East Light? Yes? No? Maybe? Well if you haven’t or you’re unsure, you most certainly will!

“The East Light’s agency Media Line announced, “The average age of The East Line is fifteen years old. They are a dance group with the talents to open a new paradigm in the idol market. Although their age may be young, their skills are not.”

I definitely can’t wait to hear their music. I have my theories of what they’ll sound like but I’ll wait until it’s official!
