Kpop Update | “Running Man” Controversy Continues + Got7’s Jackson Begging Sasaengs “Leave Me Alone” Gone Viral + WINNER’s First Broadcast as Four Members + New Music

Alright, so I didn’t really want to title this “Weekend Update” because this was supposed to be on Wednesday. However, regardless of the day we’re going to get into all of this!

Starting with Running Man.

Everytime I hear something new about the cast of Running Man, I usually overlook it because it’s typically a lot of speculation. But with Gary shutting down his social media account after news broke following an announcement that Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook would be leaving the show, there might be some truth to what’s being said.

So what happened???

News broke that both Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook  would be leaving the show. The problem was, neither of them at the time were made aware of this. The show had announced it was going through changes, which is something each parties agencies acknowledged, however what they didn’t know was that this would include cast changes.

Song Ji Hyo’s Agency Statement:

“We knew Running Man would go through changes from SBS but it is true that we only found out from news reports which members would not be invited back. We do not want to comment on Song Ji Hyo’s feelings but it is not our official stance that it was not a good farewell. There is a definite road she needed to walk as an actress and considered leaving the show so it [seemed] natural to leave the show during the season-change. However, it is true there was a lack of active communication from the production crew in the steps leading up to Song Ji Hyo leaving the show. There is a lot of regret emotionally but as it is the production’s decision, we will humbly accept it.”

Kim Jong Kook’s Agency Statement:

“It is true that we were told about Kim Jong Kook leaving the show one-sidedly. It is regrettable. Even though Kim Jongkook was not in the best health condition, it was a program he really cared for and took part in.”

When did the two find out? The night of the report!

Now there’s speculation that Gary is responding to the news by cutting off his social media contact with all involved over slighting his friends. Of course this is purely speculation and nothing has been said to the affirmative, but it is interesting timing.

Gary has also unfollowed everyone on his Instagram account, previously following a total of 145 people. He also had 88 photos uploaded to his account prior to the purge. His last few posts were videos that were uploaded about 5 days ago.

Guess we’ll be following this story to see what happens…

Got7’s Jackson is also in the midst of a controversy that is taking the Got7 fandom by storm!

It is truly one thing to be surrounded with support and love by fans but it is another thing when that love and support becomes so overwhelming, it’s almost smothering. Jackson experienced this “smothering” love while in a Chinese airport recently. There’s a video from that experience that has fans all over outraged of Jackson begging on his knees for the sasaengs to leave him alone.

There’s another video of him asking fans to basically give him space, expressing how tired he is and asking them if he needs to get on his knees and beg. It was until after he literally gets on his knees begging and pleading that concerned fans begin to also plead with the others to leave him alone.

This comes on the heels of an incident, not too long ago, where fans actually forced him to crash his car when they were tailing him.

Seriously, this has gone too far.

In lighter news, WINNER has finally surfaced after being hidden away for a long time preparing for their comeback. But the moment is truly bittersweet seeing them now as a four member group instead of five. Earlier, it was reported that Taehyun would have to leave due to a medical condition making them a four member group officially.

On December 15th, WINNER greeted their fans through a live streaming broadcast. It was their first public activity with four members left in the lineup… The broadcast was done in conjunction with the statement by YG Entertainment that confirmed their comeback plans. The agency stated that WINNER and iKON are both preparing their albums, aimed to be released early next year.

It’s good to see that they will be making a return! And I’m sure we all wish Taehyun the very best and to get well soon.

Apink | Bomi Criticized By Netizen for Actions on Naver V App

I was going to let this go, but after reading it and thinking about it, I just couldn’t. I ran across this story on Koreaboo and it was just felt… odd to me. The author was saying Bomi had a “bad attitude” of some sorts but… I don’t know.

Here’s the background, Apink has a show called Apink’s Mukbang Talk. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a show where the person will eat food while interacting with the viewers. It’s a way for people who live on their own and/or have to eat meals alone to not feel so lonely while they eat.

During the broadcast, Bomi was singled out for her actions. Apparently, everything she did was deliberate and “attention seeking”. The author of the post created a list of reasons why they didn’t like her attitude.

1. She put on glasses

2. Suddenly takes off her glasses

3. She talks on the phone during broadcast

4. She keeps eating

5. She suddenly jumps up

6. She talks with her mouth full

7. She disappears during broadcast

8. She points at the camera

9. She bites her fingernails

They added descriptions of why they felt the way they did for each of the reasons but it was a bit long. You can see their full explanations on the link. The point is, the whole thing seemed to be a bit much. It was pretty obvious to me by Number 4, that the author clearly just doesn’t like Bomi that much. Even other commenters noticed that. One comment said:

[ +25 / 0] Oh my haha Why does it matter if she wears glasses or not? She is eating during a broadcast? Didn’t you see the room’s title? It was ‘A Pink’s Mukbang Talk” for the members to eat while talking. What programs can she not stand up and sit down at her own will? This is too forced haha It is even funny that I have to explain these things. Aren’t you embarrassed for writing this? Are you crazy?

After all this, the only thing I can say is, I don’t understand the point of this post at all. I don’t even know why I couldn’t let it go but it just seemed a bit… odd.

Girl’s Day Public Apology on Koon TV

They did as they said they would and returned to Koon TV to apologize sincerely to all the viewers, fans and anyone and everyone affected by their actions. This was a learning lesson for even Host Choi Koon who said that he was an “inexperienced host” and should’ve noticed the live comments during the initial broadcast. Afterwards, he introduced Girl’s Day to address the audience.

As the group’s leader, Sojin makes an apology on behalf of Girl’s Day, and said, “We would like to say we are sorry. We would like to apologize to viewers for making them uncomfortable when they only wanted to see an enjoyable broadcast. Girl’s Day will always be bright and energetic and work hard, and we will be more careful and pay more attention in the future. Once again, we are sorry.”

Once again, the video has been removed from the site and the youtube videos of it are being removed as well. But it was nice to know that they were sincerely sorry and to see them apologize sincerely was comforting and showed maturity on their part.

I hope everyone is forgiving and let’s them move forward from the experience. It was an honest mistake. And I believe their apology was sincere.

Girl’s Day Creates Firestorm of Criticism and Disappointment After Appearance on AfreecaTV

Recently Girl’s Day was featured on an episode of AfreecaTV. If you don’t know anything about it, think of it as a “user dominated” network. Viewers upload videos, can submit questions, there are live broadcasts and different tv shows… it’s just really audience interactive online. (I don’t really know how else to describe it.)

Normally for idols and artists and actors, this is a great way to expand their fandom and appease their current fans. But unfortunately for Girl’s Day, they actually upset a lot of people.

“…as pointed out by viewers, [Girl’s Day] appears to often ignore Choi Kun, speaking amongst themselves and focusing more on the food that Choi Kun had bought for them. During and after the show, viewers also criticized Hyeri for responding informally to audience comments, as well as pointed out a “dumpling war” (at 33:27) that goes on between member Sojin and Choi Kun.

Of course fans did not take any of this lightly and quickly turned to the neti-sphere to share their views. Comments ranging from sympathy for host Choi Kun to outrage disappointment and anger at the ladies’ actions. The video was taken down and even though it has spread across the internet, other videos of it have been taken down as well. I posted a YouTube video of it but I have no idea how long it’ll be available for viewing.

But what do you think? Were the ladies out of line?
