Tuesday Update | I.O.I’s Kim Sohye Starting New Agency + “Doctors” First Episode Ratings + Lee Seung Gi’s Reps Want Formal Investigation, Rumors

Quick Note from TwentyThird:

These past few days there has been an explosive investigation involving  JYJ singer and actor Park Yu Chun and several women that are truly very serious allegations. You may notice that I have made no mention of it here and that is because I want to wait for the investigation to be complete before proceeding further with the story. Just know, I have been following it closely. Sexual Assault is a serious crime and should be handled with only the facts. However, if you are unfamiliar with what’s currently going on or in need of an update from a news source, click here for an article from the TheKoreaTimes.

There’s really no way to transition from something like that in a way that seems appropriate so I’ll just say…

Now on to lighter news.

I.O.I’s Kim Sohye’s is finally signed to a new label, S&P Entertainment!

“Kim Sohye, who is housed under S&P, is currently promoting in activities as an I.O.I member after debuting through being selected as fifth place on ‘Produce 101.’… “S&P Entertainment will work hard and tirelessly in order to repay your support.”

It’s really an exciting time for the ladies of I.O.I. With many of them now either returning to agencies or joining new agencies, it’s great to see them finally moving from trainees to idols!

Have you been following the premiere of new dramas? I hate to admit that the last one I followed, that was recent, was Descendants of the Sun. There have been plenty of new dramas that have begun to air but the one that’s catching everybody’s eye is “Doctors”. The first episode gained enough attention to reach 12.9 percent nationwide in ratings.

“Doctors” Bio

“The right mentor can determine if you go to jail or achieve something greater in life. Yoo Hye Jung (Park Shin Hye) has had a tough childhood and difficult life. She has dealt with the life challenges by becoming emotionally guarded and acting like a tough bully at school. When Hong Ji Hong (Kim Rae Won) meets Hye Jung, he recognizes her intelligence behind her gangster façade and sets her on a path to become a compassionate doctor. Now a doctor in a neurosurgery residency at a major hospital, Hye Jung works alongside fellow residents Jung Yoon Do (Yoon Kyun Sang) and Jin Seo Woo (Lee Sung Kyung). But when Seo Woo becomes Hye Jung’s biggest rival both professionally and personally, can Hye Jung overcome yet another major obstacle to her own personal happiness? “Doctors” is a 2016 South Korean drama series directed by Oh Choong Hwan.”

It’s been said that the first episode was pretty intense. I haven’t seen yet but I intend to watch it as soon as I can get an hour to spare. But if you’re looking for a place to watch it, my favorite source is Viki. You can watch the first episode here for free!

Lee Seung Gi’s Reps have been busy doing damage control after the news began to circulate that Lee Seung Gi may have a secret child that he visited frequently and was helping to raise. The rumor was spreading so far and wide that even Dispatch was pulled into the matter. The rumor claimed that they were the ones who were doing all the investigative work into the issue. Turns out the story was fabricated and now only is Dispatch speaking out to clear their name but Lee’s reps want a full police investigation into the matter.

“[The rumor] even went so far as to suggest that we are covering the story,” Dispatch writes. “We assure you that this is completely false. We don’t even currently have the workers to cover such a rumor.” They add, “We have confirmed that there is no such person on his make-up team.”

(source: soompi)

Lee Seung Gi’s agency officially filed a request to open an investigation into the rumor claims to find out who started them. And of course that will ultimately lead to some type of legal action.

This is nowhere near close to over.

And on that note… here’s a baby Xiumin dancing as a penguin. No seriously… it’s the cutest video ever!

Kpop Music Update | BTOB and DAY6 Join KCON 2016 + Minzy’s Alleged New Agency + Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany Solo Debut Teasers + Music Videos

Alright so this post is a day late! Normally a Wednesday post, I just couldn’t pass up on another Artist of the Week post. Sorry! But, we’re here today!

And we’re kicking off this week (or ending it) with more on KCON 2016! The line-up just keeps getting more and more exciting. It seems, in addition to BTS, MAMAMOO, SEVENTEEN and Ailee, BTOB and DAY6 have made their announcement as well!

Ugh!! I wanna gooooo!!!

After announcing that she was leaving YG and ultimately 2NE1, it seems that Minzy may have found a new agency to call home. Though Blackjacks were heartbroken by her leaving, they have expressed well wishes at this potential “could be official” rumor.

“According to a report from news outlet Sports Donga, an insider revealed to them that Minzy has decided to sign an exclusive contract with Music Works after having discussions with several different agencies… Music Works addressed the reports and commented, “It’s true that we recently met with Minzy to discuss an exclusive contract, but a contract has yet to be officially signed.”

(source: soompi)

Don’t know if she truly is signing with them yet but I’m sure if she’s talking with them we just might hear something soon.

Minzy… 화이팅!

And then there was another… Girls Generation member solo debut!

It was announcement a little while ago that Tiffany would be making a solo debut as well and now, we get to see what that solo debut will look like because we are days away from it! She’ll begin performing her new song on May 12th on Mnet’s M!Countdown and then she’ll be performing on KBS’s Music Bank on May 13th, MBC’s Music Core on May 14th, and finally SBS’s Inkigayo on May 15th.

Wednesday Kpop Update | iKON Releases “What’s Wrong?” and “Dumb & Dumber” + Rain SBS Drama Comeback + Se7en Officially Launches Agency “Eleven9”

Eventful day today!

Park Bo Young is officially the model for Claire’s Korea brand “Guerisson 9 Complex Cream” and whitening brand “Cloud9” in both Korea and now China as well.

Bumkey’s drug trafficking ruling is officially being appealed in the Seoul District Court of Appeals. However, his lawyers are maintaining that the credibility of the witnesses is truly waning and they’re just blaming him for leniency. Back in August, Bumkey was acquitted of all charges.

Kim Soo-hyun’s stepsister, Kim Joo-na will be participating in “Produce 101”, Mnet’s production for the next girl group. She is currently a trainee with  musicK Entertainment.

iKON released two new videos today for their new songs from their upcoming full length album, “What’s Wrong?” and “Dumb & Dumber”.

And in actor news!

Rain has officially confirmed that he will be making a comeback with a new SBS drama, “Come Back, Uncle”.

Rain portrays the handsome manager Lee Hae Joon, who was a middle-aged salaryman who dies, but is given the opportunity to live again. The drama will explore the meaning of true love and the essence of life.

(source: soompi)

It’s based off a Japanese novel “椿山課長の七日間 (Tsubakiyama Kacho no Nanokakan)” about a middle-aged department store manager who dies from overworking and stress. He is granted the ability to come back to life for 3 days only but he is only able to come back as a woman named Tsubaki Kazuyama.

And finally, Se7en has officially launched his new agency “Eleven9”. He announced back in January that this was a project he was working on and has been working diligently ever since to launch it. The agency plans to cover “a wide range of segments including music, acting and fostering rookies to become a comprehensive entertainment agency”.

An official statement from Eleven9 read:

“Se7en was involved in many details throughout the construction process. Since the label officially kicked off, he will do his best to develop the company which will have much influence in an array of fields,”

Along with the new agency news, Se7en is expected to also be making a comeback early next year with a new album.

Looks like next year is set to be a very intriguing year!

Tuesday Kpop Update | RANIA Introduces New Member + IU Plagiarism (Agency Responds) + VIXX “Chained Up” Teaser and B.A.P Releases Individual Teasers for Comeback

A lot happened today. For those wondering, Yewon will not be participating on SNL Korea with Lee Tae Im. Raise your hands if you’re surprised? (Crickets.) Word got around that the two were going to appear on SNL and it was looking like a chance at public reconciliation for the viewers at home, but Yewon’s agency at the last second decided, maybe not a good idea. They released a statement saying that “after careful consideration, [Yewon] will not be appearing” on the show.  Honestly, I’m not surprised. I’m actually more surprised that this was even considered as an option. That just screams, uncomfortable!

Congratulations ONCE! For those of you who haven’t heard and just so happened to be a fan of TWICE, you now have a fanclub name, “ONCE”!

Super cute right? They explained through their instagram account that, ONCE and TWICE just go together! So if you love them ONCE then they’ll return the love to you TWICE! So cute! And of course YG had to join in the fray and release another “WHO’s NEXT” teaser. I’ll put it to you like this, if it’s not WINNER, there’s going to be a lot of upset fans. The mysterious release is on November 21st so get ready!

And since we’re talking about new releases, teasers and promos with introductions. RANIA has announced a new official member and I have to say I’m super excited about this one! The new member is Alexandra and she’s Black-American! Woot!!!

Alexandra, age 21, is a rapper hailing from the U.S. Her father is black and her mother is white. She was born in Kansas and has lived in New York and Texas. She was part of the American record label Def Jam (housing Kanye West, Ludacris, and Justin Beiber, among others currently) starting from when she was 15 years old. Alexandra was preparing to debut with the help of her manager Scott (who formerly managed Rihanna and currently manages Bruno Mars, according to DR Music), when she came to know RANIA and signed on to become an official member.

(source: soompi)

Did I mention she raps? I’m totally a new fan of RANIA. Seriously I am. It’s amazing to see this happen. I never thought I’d see this day. I’m just… I’ma fan!

But unfortunately, the same good energy can’t be said for IU and it looks like a lot of “fans” have begun that “awesome” investigative work on one of her latest songs. The song in question is a bonus track on her mini-album “CHAT-SHIRE”. Apparently, the song has portions of it that sound exactly like “Gimme More” by Britney Spears.

Word got back to LOEN Entertainment and they released this statement on IU’s official Facebook account. I’l post an excerpt but click the link to koreaboo to see the full translation.

“Hello, this is IU’s agency LOEN. We would like to make an official response to the issue at hand with regards to the bonus track ‘Twenty-Three’ in IU’s mini-album [CHAT-SHIRE]. Last weekend after inquiring the producers about the issue at hand, we found that the producer used a voice sample that was in his possession through a previous purchase during the mixing stage… it is unclear how the producer came to be in possession of the sample, and are currently checking how this voice sample came about after contacting Britney Spears’s agency. We will attempt to clear this issue as soon as possible…”

(source: koreaboo)

Fans have already taken to social media to express their displeasure at the entire situation, claiming that this isn’t the first time IU has been caught in a plagiarism scandal. Many wondering if she’s even a real kpop idol. (Ouch!) I will say in her defense, it’s not like she wrote and produced the song by herself. And honestly, “Gimme More” is such an old song, I doubt many people outside of the U.S. would remember it. Unless you’re a fan of Britney Spears in which case, my apologies.

Hopefully this will be settled soon and we can all move on.

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for! VIXX comeback teaser!

B.A.P also has been releasing individual teasers leading up to that official release date! I’ll post them in the order they were released.
