Wednesday Kpop Update | JYP Talks Park Ji-Min, Comeback + YMC and I.O.I: Sexy Concept Misunderstanding, Says Agency + VIXX “Fantasy” Teaser Comeback + New Music Videos

There is a lot to talk about today in the world of kpop. With the rumors of dating and new actors on the horizon, sometimes it is just so good to hear some kpop news that we’ve been waiting on.

To for example, 4Minute, everyone has been waiting patiently to see what was going to happen with the rest of the members. Afterall, we all knew that HyunA was going to make a solo comeback, but what about everyone else? Well, the news is out and it’s official, Jiyoon is prepping for her solo debut! She recently signed with a new agency, JS E&M, and they’ve put together a team to build her new image and new solo music. Jiyoon’s solo comeback date is scheduled for October.

BLACKPINK, YG’s new girl group, made their official debut this week and I have to agree with everyone else when I say this, they are really good! The ladies gave their first interview after debuting saying that they were “nervous” and working hard on creating their own signature color. Some fans have been drawing comparisons to previous YG groups like 2NE1 and even BIGBANG, but this is what they have to say.

YG’s Yang Hyun Suk shared his thoughts about BLACKPINK and 2NE1. “We didn’t try too hard to create a difference between BLACKPINK and 2NE1. It was the same when we created 2NE1. YG has its own unique sound so we focused on making the music sound the most like us,” he explained… He continued to say, “There is no leader. They have been friends for so long that having a leader is impossible. All four members can be leaders.”

As a fan of 2NE1 I have to say, while I watched their debut music videos, I could draw some similarities but overall, they are truly their own group with the classic YG sound. I loved watching them and can’t wait to hear the debut single album, “SQUARE ONE” which was released on the 8th!

And since we’re talking about comeback news, one of my all-time favorite solo artists Park Ji-Min is about to make her own solo comeback! After releasing the single “Hopeless Love”, she disappeared for a while. She did a few songs with 15& but we weren’t given any new official solo music. Now, JYP says, that’s about to change very soon.

On August 10, JYP Entertainment announced, “Park Ji Min is planning to make a comeback mid-August with a new song. She’s in the final stages of preparation.”

(source: allkpop)

This is great news! I can’t wait to hear her new music!

When it was announced that I.O.I’s comeback was going to be different than before, many people began to speculate what they could possibly be planning. And then teasers began to slip and fans went crazy! The net-o-sphere blew up with comments that the ladies were gonna go with a “sexy” concept. Even I fell for it…

And then YMC said… “Umm what?”

“This unit’s concept is not ‘sexy,’” a source from the agency says. “We didn’t emphasize sexiness at all, so we don’t know why we’re receiving this kind of response… Rather than sexiness, we wanted to emphasize the charisma [the girls] can display on stage and their girl crush charm,” the source continues. “This will definitely be a performance that differs from the previous ‘unique’ concept [for ‘Dream Girls].”

(source: soompi)

After listening to the new song, “Whatta Man” and watching the video I realized, it wasn’t meant to be sexy at all. I actually got the look they were going for before I read this and I have to say, I like their concept better than the rumors. The song samples the 90’s R&B song “Whatta Man” by En Vogue/Salt-N-Pepa. And though I remember when the original came out, (even though I was a little kid I do remember the song), I did like their take on it and I like the concept they chose to go with it.

And then there was VIXX…

We have been waiting tirelessly for a VIXX comeback. Or at least I have… and the teaser photos and announcements were just making me anxious. And then, this happened.

The video has been released on Naver but some kind soul decided to upload it to YouTube. Because for some reason, no matter how hard I tried to share it from Naver here it just wouldn’t work. However, I don’t know how long it’ll be up there but for the time being, you can watch it here.

I’m excited and can not wait for the new music!

That’s all for the Wednesday Kpop Update. And now for some new music!

Wednesday Kpop Update | Se7en New Release “I’m Good”, 3 Year Hiatus + Big Hit Apologizes for Lyrics + Girl Group D.Holic Making a Comeback with New Member(s) + New Music Videos

The world of kpop just didn’t seem the same when Se7en announced that he would have to take his official hiatus for his military service. And though we missed him and were able to listen to all his wonderful songs he left for us to enjoy, his comeback is what we’ve all been waiting for, whether we knew it or not.

The official video has already been released and you’ll find it at the end of this post. It was released at midnight KST. This will be Se7en’s first new song in three years!

Welcome back Se7en!

Big Hit Entertainment has been in some serious hot water over lyrics in BTS’ songs that have been misogynistic. It was so bad, they actually had to release an official apology today. But what was said exactly? Well the outrage came after the lyrics were released to songs such as “Hormone War” and Rap Monster’s “Joke”.

They said in an official statement:

[excerpt. See full statement at allkpop.com]

“Big Entertainment and BTS acknowledge that since the end of 2015, there’s been a controversy regarding the misogyny in BTS’s lyrics, and after reviewing the lyrics once again, we found out that a portion of the substance could be misunderstood to criticize women, which was not intended when it was being written, and made people uncomfortable…Big Hit Entertainment and all of BTS are extremely apologetic toward all of the fans as well as the people who felt uncomfortable because of BTS’s lyrics and SNS content, and we will continually refer back to such comments and problems in the future during the writing process… Even in the future, please continue to watch over BTS’s development, and if you point out the parts where we’re lacking, we will work even harder as we listen to the fans and society’s advice.”

As sweet as a gesture this was, the fans are split! Many fans are crying out that this was completely unnecessary and then there were those who fully appreciated the apology and are glad that they will be changing their words in the future.

I’m personally glad they handled this the way they did. Although, I’m from a country where the music and music videos are far worse, many people could still potential find offense in the language so I get it

And then there was D.Holic…

Did you know they were making a comeback? That’s right! The ladies of D. Holic are returning but with a bit of a shake-up.

Notice something?

The once five-member group has now because four and to add to it, they’ve added a new member rapper EJ. But why the change?

HMate Entertainment explains, “What once originally a five-membered group will now stand in front of fans with four members instead. Members Danbee and Duri have left the group, and rapper EJ will be joining in their stead.”

(source: soompi)

This is actually the second time they’ve had to make some changes and readjustments. Last August, their main vocalist Nine left for personal reasons.

I’m excited to see how this works out. This change will probably also result in a new sound as well.

“Tuesday” Kpop Update | 4Minute Disbands, Statement + Jellyfish New Girl Group, Three Members from Produce 101 + Why Was I.O.I Edited Out of Dream Concert Broadcast?

Today is extremely rare right?! A blog post on a Tuesday! Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is really happening. And though I would’ve loved to have to started today on a good note, I have to say I’m a bit upset by the news today.

4Minute, one of my all-time favorite girl groups has decided to disband. It was bad enough that 2NE1 will never be the same but now 4Minute too??? Say it ain’t so!!

“As the contract end date approaches, the members have been in discussions for renewal, but while the agency tried to persuade them to continue the group, it ended up accepting the decision by the five members that they will not continue as a group.” The rep adds, “Due to the different opinion of the members, for all intents and purposes, the group will disband.”

(source: soompi)

It seems that Hyuna has actually decided to stay with Cube Entertainment however, it is uncertain whether the other members will also renew their contracts as solo artists.

It really makes me sad because I really thought they’d sign for another year or so but I guess it was time for them to go their separate ways. I wish them all the best even if this does pain me to say goodbye to 4Minute.

In the wake of 4Minute’s disbandment and a new girl group announcement from YG, Jellyfish has announced that they as well will be joining the fray and is in the process of introducing their own new girl group.

Surprise… Three of the members are from Produce 101!

On June 13th, Jellyfish Entertainment began teasing for their new girl group on their SNS accounts, writing, “Who is gx9? Kim Nayoung, Kim Sejeong, Kang Mina. Who is [the] next girl?” and posted what was most likely the girl group’s debut logo design.

(source: koreaboo)

Along with the teaser about gx9, they’ve released teasers for the first revealed members.

I’m pretty excited for this.

And finally, we get an answer from SBS about why I.O.I was edited out completely from the Dream Concert broadcast. The excuse?

SBS stated today, June 13 KST, “The reason why I.O.I was entirely edited out of the Dream Concert was because of the broadcast length. Other teams were also edited out. There was no malicious intent… “All performances were aired on SBS Plus, but on the main SBS channel, due to the TV programming schedule, a portion of the performances were inevitably cut out.”

(source: soompi)

Naturally fans were and still are outraged. I guess it makes sense but at the same time it doesn’t make sense. Everyone is kinda looking closely at I.O.I and considering the fact that they won’t be together long, I think after one year they’ll disband, it would make sense to me if they got a lot of airtime for the time being.

I don’t know about this one.

Monday Kpop Update | WINNER Discuss Hiatus in Interview + Mino Talks About “Shedding YG Image” + NOM Disbands After Two Years + New Music Video Releases

Alright so a lot of this actually took place over the weekend. So much happened! Let’s get started, first thing, AOA’s sub-unit Cream released a teaser for their upcoming debut.

Ice “Cream” anyone?

And of course we can’t forget that MAMAMOO is also getting ready for their comeback! They released a teaser for Melting which is due for release on Feb. 26th.

And speaking of comebacks, WINNER finally re-emerged with three new songs, “Baby Baby”, “Sentimental”, and “I’m Young”. And of course with the new comeback, there were plenty of questions. They sat down for an interview at a cafe in Seoul for their new album EXIT:E and really expressed for the first time just exactly how the delay made they feel.

There was a burden we felt because thankfully, our debut album did better than we expected. Our title track was called ‘Empty,’ and we really felt empty…  It was difficult for us but as hard as it was, it was also a time for us to grow and get a firmer grasp on the direction of our music… It was a hard time but we’re grateful. Thanks to those experiences…”

(source: allkpop)

Of course, during that hiatus, they toured, traveled and Mino participated in Show Me The Money.

Speaking of Mino, while on Show Me The Money, he said in a verse that he wanted to “shed the YG label”. And now he’s finally giving us some closure on what he meant. And I’ll just say, it’s not what you think, he’s not leaving YG.

“I wrote that line to express my ambition and determination,” he said. “But it’s not about quitting my contract. It was about the thought that I should try things on my own strength instead of my agency’s.”

(source: soompi)

I’m actually glad he clarified this. Even though I had a feeling that he wasn’t trying to slyly announce he was leaving, I still just wanted to hear his thoughts on it.

WINNER’s album EXIT:E is out now!

There is really no way to say this gently but… NOM has officiall disbanded.

After two years of being signed to JM Star Entertainment, they announced that they were done.

“Hello. This is JM Star. Though it’s been awhile, we feel sorry that we bring this news about NOM. As of today, NOM has officially stopped activities with the members going forward into their own path. We appreciate NEYB cheering and loving NOM. Because of the fans, NOM was able to come this far. Though they are no longer active as NOM, A-IN, Yohan, and K are getting ready to stand in front of fans again with a new look, we ask that you give them your love and support. Thank you for your interest.”

(source: koreaboo)

And while the news of this is hitting fans pretty hard, JM Star has another group in the wings waiting to debut, 7Stone. Of course, this news came after the announcement of NOM’s disbandment so it was pretty much a shocker to everyone. But at least we know three of the members already, A-IN, Yohan, and K.

And now for some new music!
