Weekly Lesson #10 | Direction + -에 있습니다 / -에 없습니다 pt. 2

안녕하세요!

Today is part 2 of the lesson from last week. I’ve decided to use the same sentences from last week so you can see that there isn’t really much difference in sentence structure that way it’ll be easier to remember.

We’ll review first and then get started!!

Review:

Grammar:

  • The main point here is to remember that we are talking about direction and location so you’ll need to add the location particle -에 after the direction word.

Statements:

  • 책이 침대 위에 있습니다. | The book is on the bed.

Using the same vocabulary from last week, we’re going to talk about things not being in a location.

Vocabulary:

  • 책  | book
  • 탁자 | table
  • 침대 | bed
  • 신문 | newspaper
  • 의자 | chair
  • 위 | up / on
  • 아래 |  beneath / under
  • 옆 | beside / next to

Grammar:

  • The main point here is to remember that 없습니다 is used when talking about something not being there or non-existent.

Statements:

  • 의자가 탁자 옆에 없습니다. (uijaga tagja yeop-e eobs-seubnida.) | “The chair is not next to the table.”
  • 책이 침대 위에 없습니다. (chaeg-i chimdae wie eobs-seubnida.) | “The book is not on the bed.”
  • 신문이 의자 아래에 없습니다. (sinmun-i uija alaee eobs-seubnida.) | “The newspaper is not under the chair.”

Next week we will conclude with asking questions and answering them.

Alright that’s it for this week! More on this next week with questions and things that aren’t there. [i.e., “It’s not in the room.”]
