잤다 + -거든요 | [Word of the Day]

안녕하세요!

I think this week has been just easier to do than last week. For some reason, using -거든요 in the past tense just works better for me. I’m not really sure why it’s easier this way but hopefully you guys are still able to not only add this to your everyday conversations for past tense but present tense as well.

Let’s get started!

Scenario: Mina asks Min-ho why he didn’t come to the dinner party.

잤다 (jass-da) | “slept”

  • Mina: “왜 오지 않았 니?” | “Why didn’t you come?”
  • Min-ho: “미안해. 늦 잤거든요.” | “Sorry. (It’s because…) I slept late.”

This one is a little short so I’m not sure if it still qualifies as a scenario… Sorry about that. When I wrote it out on paper first it seemed a little bit longer.

That’s it for today.
