Alright so last week we talked about this in the context of present tense. To conclude this lesson, we will be talking about how to use this in the past tense. It’s actually not too much different, however, you do need to be familiar with how to conjugate in the past tense.
Let’s get started!
Verb/Adjective stem + 거든요
- Min-ho: 누나, 어디 가세요? | “Where are you going?”
- Mina: 가게에 갈거야. 우리는 우유가 필요해거든요. |”I’m going to the store because we need milk.” or “I’m going to the store. We need milk.”
So now with that in mind, how do we properly present this in the past tense? By using the verb stem endings, 았/었 + -거든요.
Let’s look at an example:
- 바쁘다 + 았/었 + -거든(요)
- 바쁘었거든. | “(Because…) I was busy.”
- 먹다 + 았/었 + -거든요.
- 먹었거든요. | “(Because…) I ate.”
That’s all there is to it!
We’ll be looking at this all this week! I’ll probably have more scenarios this time around!
