Today’s word means a little bit more to me today than it did a couple of days ago. During life you will often have to deal with bullies and people who will disrespect you and intentionally try to tear you down. I don’t know why people go out of their way to be hurtful but they do. Maybe it’s intimidation, self-hatred, or jealousy… the world may never know.
But, I wanted to pick a word that was not related to any particular theme but maybe something we all could use a little more of…
용기 (yong-gi) | “fearless; courage; brave; container”
I included all the meanings for this. I’ll explain why there’s such a contrast with this word. Apparently, it is taken from two different places. The first place is the Japanese word, 容器 meaning, “put in” and “dish”, that’s where “container” comes from. The second place is the Chinese word, 勇氣 meaning “courage”.
Depending on the context in which you use this word will determine what you’re trying to say.
- 용기를 가지고! (yong-gileul gajigo!) | “Have courage!”
- 이거 용기를 넣고. (igeo yong-gileul neohgo.) | “Put this in the container.”
So have courage… but also, don’t forget to use containers.
