무섭다 ‎(museopda) [Word of the Day]

안녕하세요! (annyeonghaseyo!)

Ok so yesterday, we talked about how to say, “I’m tired.” But today, we’re going to kind of go to a different range of the spectrum. This time, we’re talking about being afraid. Of course there is more than one way to express fear in Korean but we’re going to focus on the adjective and not the verb. The verb is: “무서워하다 ‎(museowohada)”.

무섭다 ‎(museopda) [adj] | “to be worried or afraid of something”

Example:

  • Person 1: 자신에 대해 말해. (jasin-e daehae malhae) | “Tell me about yourself.”
  • Person 2: 나는 개를 무서워요. (naneun gaeleul museowoyo.) | “I’m scared of dogs.”

Ok maybe that conversation would be a bit awkward but that’s one way you could use that word.

Example:

  • 영화가 무섭다? (yeonghwaga museobda?) | “Is the movie scary?”

Ok so that’s it for today!
