I think this week just might be the week of “Words with similar meanings but don’t sound the same”. You may have heard and probably used variations of the word 말하다 (malhada) in reference to speech. Words like, 말하지 (malhaji) to say, “Say it.” or 말해 (malhae) to say “Tell me”. But there is another word that’s a bit more casual than both of those ways which is 얘기하다 (yaegihada). This actually one of my favorite words. I like how it sounds.
얘기하다 (yaegihada) [verb]: “to talk, to have a conversation”
- “괜찮아 얘기해.” (gwenchana yaegihae) = It’s ok just say it/tell me.
- “내가 얘기할 수?” (naega yaegihal su?) = Can I talk to you?
Neither of the examples above are formal. Both are very casual so keep that in mind if you want to say them or use them in your own ways.
That’s it for today!
